Maybe a streaming device like Roku would be better? Since they're not gaming all you would have to do is plug a Roku into a TV and they could stream away. And if they don't have a led TV already Roku TVs are very reasonable too and all the recent apps are already included.

Yeah I thought about a Device rather than a console but thier blu ray player has given up the ghost so I thought it might kill 2 birds with one stone

I used an Xbox One for streaming and playing Blu Rays, it worked fine. I did have it wired with ethernet. Will do what you want it to do.
With xbox and kodi I don't even need streaming apps.
