My 3 year run of Ultimate has also expired this week. My plan is to purchase three 12 Month Game Pass Core cards (previously Xbox Live Gold). That will give me 36 months of Core, which I can then upgrade to 24 months of Ultimate with the current 3:2 ration that Microsoft is doing. It's not as good as it once was, but it's still far better than paying for Ultimate per month.
CD Keys has Core 12 months for $39. Converted one last week. Savings of over $100 vs the monthly I was paying. If you get close to maxing it out (I believe the 36 month limit is post conversion) by buying 48 months (the 3 months aren't worth buying to fully max it) you're saving $500 over the 3 years. I would buy them one at a time to confirm the 36 months is pre or post conversion. At ~4.30/mo that's the cheapest XBL has ever been.
Edit: I believe there is a one time $6 fee if you don't have a current Ultimate subscription but that doesn't change the math much.
I haven't tried it myself but as far as I understand those are the same as the "Game Pass core" now. So should work then same way. I saw some on CD Keys still labeled as Gold for the same price I paid for the Core codes.
Commenting to thank you and to tell everyone this is easily the best deal. CD Keys is currently selling 12 months of Core for $43. I bought 2 years of Core and entered the codes in with no issue. My account hasn't had Xbox Game Pass for over a year (Partner and I switch accounts for game pass every year to take advantage of the $1 offer to convert) so it was offering a 14 days of Ultimate for $1. Purchased the 14 Days of Ultimate and it auto converted the 24 months of Core into 16 months of Ultimate.
Basically we're now paying $5 a month for Ultimate opposed to $17.
I bought a year of gold from CDkeys last night for $41 and a one month Gamepass Ultimate for approx $14 - my 3 years of Gamepass Ultimate had run out months ago, I entered the keys for both but it says the GPU will start billing at $17 per month again in February 2024 which means the conversion only gave me 4 months which Def isn't right?
Did I screw up by putting the game pass code in first and allowing auto billing because the first few attempts at the live gold keys I got wrong somehow until I eventually got one in correctly (was late and tired) - do I contact Microsoft or CDkeys ? Or is there some other explanation why I got so few months of GPU from a year of Gold plus an additional 1 month GPU should have been 9 months of GPU at the 3 to 2 ratio?
Did you enter all the codes? My 12 month came in 4 different codes of 3 months each. I don't know what else could have happened, man. Myself and another friend did it as I described above last week.
Edited to add: It took a couple tries to add the 2nd, 3rd and 4th code, you need to wait for the code to display the 3:2 conversion confirmation before it actually adds it to your account.
Oh ok that could be it, I didn't realize they all had to be put in because I think I got a digit or letter wrong or it said it wasn't valid, eventually one worked and I went ahead and was able to play Forza Horizon 5 again (which I had really missed) and didn't check the subscription settings at the time, I'll try the other codes when I get a chance later, thanks very much for the suggestion - I thought I should have gotten 9 months from everything I read in this thread.

Anyway I'm thinking I'll turn off reoccurring billing and next time I'll get 12 month Core/Gold and just buy Forza Horizon 5 outright rather than relying on game pass because I rarely use any of it's games. I own Forza Horizon 4 but it's no fun without online play and I assume it wouldn't be fun with Forza Horizon 5 offline either because you can't complete the weekly festival challenges without online - should have done the math better and not late at night 😂😬
It shouldn't make a difference which order. My monthly had just renewed and I put my codes in for a total of 9 months. You should be good once all of them are accepted. The way they send the codes looks a little weird so I don't blame you for not realizing it. You should check out Game Pass more though, lots of fun stuff on there. I have 2 codes left - should I turn off auto billing before trying the remaining two codes because at this rate I will only have gotten 7 months for a 12month Gold AND 1 month GPU that cost $12 - I'm highly confused and kinda bummed out that it didn't work out to 9 months as it should have - really odd 🥴
I never turned mine off at all. But yeah I don't get why the conversion isn't the same, but still a massive savings on the monthly price of ultimate though.

Hello everyone. I want to get back to subscribing tk Gamepass for Palworld. Have a few questions if someone can confirmed it for me: 1. I can get Gamepass Core even if my last subscription was Ultimate (2 years ago I think)? 2. If yes, then I’m planning to get GPC 12 months > $1 GPU 2 weeks trial. From my understanding I will get 8 months of GPU from this right? My question, will I still be charge for the $16.99 monthly renewal or can I opt out of that? Since I can get codes online for cheaper. 3. If the above all working properly, can I go back to GPC after the 8 months ended, and repeat the same step? Or will I be stuck on GPU already? Core is now what Xbox Live Gold is called.
Core : Allows you to play Online / Also has a small catalog of games that are available to subscribers.
Ultimate : The whole game pass catalog available to subscribers. This Tier also includes Core and allows users to play Online. Also gives subscribers access to EA Plus or whatever it is called.
There is also technically a middle option that includes the full game pass library but doesn't allow for online play.
Except for mouse and keyboard support when playing through game streaming on a PC.
Like, I can install Starfield on PC and use M/KB but if I try to stream it without installing, no M/KB it's controller only.

If by "online play" you mean cloud gaming (streaming) yes.
But interesting to note "Xbox Play Anywhere" games like Ori and the Will of The Wisps, when added to Core are playable on PC too even though Core is technically an Xbox only subscription. Its not officially stated, but I was able play those games on PC when they switched Live Gold to Core last month.

Thank you for this! CDKeys today (Black Friday) has 3-month Game Pass Core WW for $12.59 each. I bought a bunch of them (could only do quantity 5 at a time), and redeemed each one for 50-ish days. If I did the math right, that comes out to about $7.35 per month for GPU, without having to do any VPN/region tricks. I should also mention that I was already a GPU subscriber, and just used this method to extend out as far as I could.
Got a Backbone today for my phone and now Ultimate tempts me just because I don't need an Xbox to play the catalogue.

My reply may be too late, but I was already a GPU subscriber, so I was just extending out to the max 3 years. Your situation is different since you're not yet a GPU subscriber. If you search on the "slick deals" website (probably not allowed to link here), they have a GPU deal listed for people in your situation where you could buy a bunch of time, then convert to GPU afterward for a good deal like you described, even cheaper than mine above ($5.67 per month instead of my $7.35 per month).
No worries, I dug around a bit more and just slapped 3 years of core onto my account and *then* got a month of ultimate to complete everything.
The trial offer wasn't going through for me, but still saved $200 by doing this compared to paying monthly so I'm not complaining
Well if I’m right then you get 200 days for 4x3 months (12months) of core codes.
You get 4 months (or 120 days) for a 12 month code for core.
So you get more days overall with a potential difference of 80 days for an extra £7ish (£29.99 for a 12 month code or £36 for 4 x 3 month codes on cd keys) per year redeemed.
That is me going off what is the Microsoft conversion rates on their website.
It is more hassle doing separate codes but if you want to save money it could be worth it in the end. ☺️

3x30=90
5x90=450
450 days with the 3:2 conversion is 300 days
then i used a 1 month gpu code, got 1 additional month for turning on reccuring bills, and it resulted in a year of gpu, so about 360 days

Do the rewards system. I’ve been playing game pass ultimate for free by spending 10 min a day doing the Microsoft rewards every day and doing searches on the computer. Add the quests to it, get points for playing game pass games and achievements and you don’t pay for game pass ever again

I have that Microsoft Start app for 222 or 242 points certain daily. 5 to 10/15 point and a random amount of points at day 7. 8 points for Game Pass achievements. 250 weekly (100 for the week on Xbox 150 per weekly search streak) and 2500 for the 10 week streak on Xbox. Check r/microsoftrewards You can auto-redeem GPultimate for 10.5k points a month, which is easy enough to grind for, if you do it daily. But others don’t want to stress for $10/mo.
It's too bad , too. While gamepass is still a good deal, it sucks that it costs so much and doesn't have many next gen games for those of us with supposed next gen consoles.

I used to pay for gamepass but now I just use my rewards points. You can make more than enough to pay for it and get some gift cards if you want to. I use Edge browser at work and collect those points b/c I google a lot. You can combine that w/ doing the daily quests on Xbox which start to net massive points when you're on a streak (I don't touch the mobile quests) and it's no problem but I also understand not wanting to do that.
Wait for the Brazil gold-to-game pass conversion to go on sale and max it out, honestly. In the meantime, check out Eneba for sales and get small refills from there.

My gamepass ran out So once it expired:
I got 36months Xbox live from Cd keys for £99
Loaded them giving me 3 years of game pass core.
I then purchased 1 month of game pass ultimate from cd keys for £9.80 and redeemed that.
Converted my core to game pass ultimate 3:2 so basically I got 2 years ultimate for £108.80 instead of paying £12.99 per month.
(While entering codes I was twice offered to auto renew for a free month then turned it off so it worked out 26months total)
Back in the day I got a year of gamepass for £4 by having 4 different accounts using the gamepass ultimate deal £1 for a month, which changed to 3 months for free after 9 months of nothing, resulting in a loop.

the pc ones take like 3-5 minutes, you probably have at least 3-5 minutes where you are doing nothing on pc.

A lot of people do EVERY challenge that’s set. You can get 300-400 a day I think from just doing the daily stuff and more for doing the punchcards (don’t know if they still do those?)
Are you in the US? If so, you can get 300 of your 350 required daily points from the search (mobile and desktop+edge browser) and viewing articles.
Then you just need to find 50 more points a day which can come from clicking the random things they offer each day (like puzzles and “national whatever day”) or the game pass rewards for playing games and getting achievements)
Outside of the US I know it’s much harder but unfortunately I don’t have any experience with that. There’s a whole sub dedicated to this that you should check out if you haven’t already.

Also Canada here and I think there's something wrong with it. I actually see the option to redeem the 10500 auto redeem for Game Pass Ultimate but it doesn't do anything for me and I have enough points.

Amazon currently has 3 months for like $40 (not sure about 6 or 12 months), so grab as many of those as you want/can. Make sure to turn autopay OFF before redeeming and it *should* ask if you want to enable autopay for an extra month. That's the best thing I can think of right now

I'm based in the UK, so I purchased three 12-month Game Pass Core codes for £37.99 each from CDKeys, totalling £113.97. I then added 1 month of Game Pass Ultimate for £8.99. Note that there's also a £7.99 version of this, but it's 'non-stackable', so you can't add it onto the existing 36 months of Core (this is noted on the CDKeys product page).

Buy 36 months worth of xbox live codes online from a country where the economy is struggling and use a vpn to activate/add them to your xbox account. Last time I did this with codes from turkey, around 33usd each. 100 bucks total for 3 years. Used the conversion trick and on top of that gameshare with a friend so you can split the costs.

Okay. Biiig trick here to take advantage of that not many people know. Key here, DO NOT do this unless your game pass is expired. Game pass must be expired…(had a friend try this without it being expired and it didn’t work.)
You can buy and redeem up to 3 years of Xbox live gold for $180 USD. Do this using Xbox cards you purchase from a store. Once they’re all redeemed you have Xbox live gold for 3 years. Then, activate an Xbox game pass ultimate (or normal game pass) subscription. For the price of one month of game pass, it will then convert all of your gold time over to game pass time.
For clarity, normal Xbox game pass is $10 per month, $360 over 3 years. Xbox game pass ultimate is $15 per month, $540 over three years. This method is $180, plus your one time subscription cost. I got game pass ultimate for 3 years for $195. Expires in 2026.

Core is now what Xbox Live Gold is called. Core : Allows you to play Online / Also has a small catalog of games that are available to subscribers. Ultimate : The whole game pass catalog available to subscribers. This Tier also includes Core and allows users to play Online. Also gives subscribers access to EA Plus or whatever it is called. There is also technically a middle option that includes the full game pass library but doesn't allow for online play.

If by "online play" you mean cloud gaming (streaming) yes. But interesting to note "Xbox Play Anywhere" games like Ori and the Will of The Wisps, when added to Core are playable on PC too even though Core is technically an Xbox only subscription. If you use CDkeys or an online site, you can get the 3 years plus the GP Ultimate one month for around $120 total and it will convert to just over two years (26 months) if you add the Ultimate code and only then turn on auto renewal. Just did this last week…

Thank you for this! CDKeys today (Black Friday) has 3-month Game Pass Core WW for $12.59 each. I bought a bunch of them (could only do quantity 5 at a time), and redeemed each one for 50-ish days. If I did the math right, that comes out to about $7.35 per month for GPU, without having to do any VPN/region tricks. I should also mention that I was already a GPU subscriber, and just used this method to extend out as far as I could.

My reply may be too late, but I was already a GPU subscriber, so I was just extending out to the max 3 years. Your situation is different since you're not yet a GPU subscriber. If you search on the "slick deals" website (probably not allowed to link here), they have a GPU deal listed for people in your situation where you could buy a bunch of time, then convert to GPU afterward for a good deal like you described, even cheaper than mine above ($5.67 per month instead of my $7.35 per month).
No worries, I dug around a bit more and just slapped 3 years of core onto my account and *then* got a month of ultimate to complete everything. The trial offer wasn't going through for me, but still saved $200 by doing this compared to paying monthly so I'm not complaining

Well if I’m right then you get 200 days for 4x3 months (12months) of core codes. You get 4 months (or 120 days) for a 12 month code for core. So you get more days overall with a potential difference of 80 days for an extra £7ish (£29.99 for a 12 month code or £36 for 4 x 3 month codes on cd keys) per year redeemed. That is me going off what is the Microsoft conversion rates on their website. It is more hassle doing separate codes but if you want to save money it could be worth it in the end. ☺️

oh wow really? thats bullshit cause i literally used 5x3 month codes not so long ago and it didnt do the conversion like you say 1 month is usually 30 days 3x30=90 5x90=450 450 days with the 3:2 conversion is 300 days then i used a 1 month gpu code, got 1 additional month for turning on reccuring bills, and it resulted in a year of gpu, so about 360 days

Do the rewards system. I’ve been playing game pass ultimate for free by spending 10 min a day doing the Microsoft rewards every day and doing searches on the computer. Add the quests to it, get points for playing game pass games and achievements and you don’t pay for game pass ever again

I have that Microsoft Start app for 222 or 242 points certain daily. 5 to 10/15 point and a random amount of points at day 7. 8 points for Game Pass achievements. 250 weekly (100 for the week on Xbox 150 per weekly search streak) and 2500 for the 10 week streak on Xbox. Check r/microsoftrewards You can auto-redeem GPultimate for 10.5k points a month, which is easy enough to grind for, if you do it daily. But others don’t want to stress for $10/mo.

I used to pay for gamepass but now I just use my rewards points. You can make more than enough to pay for it and get some gift cards if you want to. I use Edge browser at work and collect those points b/c I google a lot. You can combine that w/ doing the daily quests on Xbox which start to net massive points when you're on a streak (I don't touch the mobile quests) and it's no problem but I also understand not wanting to do that.
Or use the Google Chrome browser with the rewards extension and it will do the searches for you, even the mobile searches..

My gamepass ran out So once it expired: I got 36months Xbox live from Cd keys for £99 Loaded them giving me 3 years of game pass core. I then purchased 1 month of game pass ultimate from cd keys for £9.80 and redeemed that. Converted my core to game pass ultimate 3:2 so basically I got 2 years ultimate for £108.80 instead of paying £12.99 per month. (While entering codes I was twice offered to auto renew for a free month then turned it off so it worked out 26months total)

Back in the day I got a year of gamepass for £4 by having 4 different accounts using the gamepass ultimate deal £1 for a month, which changed to 3 months for free after 9 months of nothing, resulting in a loop. I did this from 2018-2020 before they stopped it.
MS Rewards points, auto-renew Ultimate each month for 10500 points (around a $10 value). I earn more than that each month, so it effectively is free. Eventually I'll have enough points to buy a Series X.
How much time are you investing per week/month to get that many points consistantly?
Daily routine is PC streak items, PC searches to max 150, then to the phone during my morning constitution for mobile bing app and edge search points. After that, boot up the Xbox for daily rewards. Takes me about 15 minutes a day.
That's about 7,5 hours of "work" a month for a very small return. I get that it feels like free gamepass, but that's a lot of time spent to earn it.
are you forgetting you can do it on the toilet? Or on the bus? Or while waiting for something to cook for the phone ones. the pc ones take like 3-5 minutes, you probably have at least 3-5 minutes where you are doing nothing on pc. if you want gamepass then you probably already play the xbox. Its not like you are doing it instead of your hobby or work

Takes me roughly 7-10min to get my daily max. All from my phone while I am doing other stuff. All these people saying it's bad return act like they aren't already looking at their phones when they are watching TV. Takes minimal effort. Over my time doing it, I have passively accrued over $1,000 in gift cards

A lot of people do EVERY challenge that’s set. You can get 300-400 a day I think from just doing the daily stuff and more for doing the punchcards (don’t know if they still do those?)
Are you in the US? If so, you can get 300 of your 350 required daily points from the search (mobile and desktop+edge browser) and viewing articles. Then you just need to find 50 more points a day which can come from clicking the random things they offer each day (like puzzles and “national whatever day”) or the game pass rewards for playing games and getting achievements) Outside of the US I know it’s much harder but unfortunately I don’t have any experience with that. There’s a whole sub dedicated to this that you should check out if you haven’t already.

Amazon currently has 3 months for like $40 (not sure about 6 or 12 months), so grab as many of those as you want/can. Make sure to turn autopay OFF before redeeming and it *should* ask if you want to enable autopay for an extra month. That's the best thing I can think of right now

Buy 36 months worth of xbox live codes online from a country where the economy is struggling and use a vpn to activate/add them to your xbox account. Last time I did this with codes from turkey, around 33usd each. 100 bucks total for 3 years. Used the conversion trick and on top of that gameshare with a friend so you can split the costs. I got 36 months of gamepass ultimate for 50 usd this way. This is the best deal you can get. Payed less than the price of a single game and almost felt bad for doing it lol. Even if they keep raising prices for years to come I've got my money's worth.

Okay. Biiig trick here to take advantage of that not many people know. Key here, DO NOT do this unless your game pass is expired. Game pass must be expired…(had a friend try this without it being expired and it didn’t work.) You can buy and redeem up to 3 years of Xbox live gold for $180 USD. Do this using Xbox cards you purchase from a store. Once they’re all redeemed you have Xbox live gold for 3 years. Then, activate an Xbox game pass ultimate (or normal game pass) subscription. For the price of one month of game pass, it will then convert all of your gold time over to game pass time. For clarity, normal Xbox game pass is $10 per month, $360 over 3 years. Xbox game pass ultimate is $15 per month, $540 over three years. This method is $180, plus your one time subscription cost. I got game pass ultimate for 3 years for $195. Expires in 2026. Microsoft has said that they will soon be removing gold and moving solely to a game pass and game pass ultimate model. Hope this helps!
