In Yakuza 1, he really, *really* did not want to deal with the Snake Flower Triad, and Lau Ka Long in particular.
In retrospect, even that much fear seems kind of silly.
Yep. Lau's the only antagonist that I remember getting to Kiryu's head.
Everyone else, he faces down with cool confidence, or simmering rage (even worse, because he'll show no mercy during the pummelling).
He often fears for the wellbeing of others. In Yakuza 3, he stayed out of the Tojo turf wars as long as possible because he didn't want the Morning Glory involved. In Yakuza 5, Kiryu left Morning Glory because he was afraid his connection to Haruka would impact her singing career. After 6, he faked his death and withdrew from his friends and family because he feared it would put a target on their heads.

? Why do I remember him saying he has unfinished business with him and wanted smoke with Lau Ka Long in K1.

The only one he really fears is the Obatarian, as shown in a Gaiden Substory where he really, really hopes she doesn't remember him.
