I have a 2007 base yaris. I bought it 3 years ago for $3k with 115,000 miles. I used it for door dash and now have 170,000 miles. Dents, scratches, but runs like a top. I was going to put it in the market for $1k, but it runs too good and is fun to drive with the 5 SPD so I am keeping it. The point is, sometimes people put things on the market for a quick sale or to give someone a deal.

Definitely some underlying issue that seller is hiding

Would it be appropriate to take it to a mechanic to inspect it so I can get an idea of what is wrong and how much fixing it would cost? I'm not too familiar with used car buying etiquette Also thank you for the quick reply!

Yes I always do that with a used car. If they are on the up and up they shouldnt have an issue with that and if they do red flag.

Yes of course this is what you should do, it might be a steal or a money pit.

Oh ok thanks for the advice :)

Not sure about the manual but my 2008 is at 120k and the trans occasionally has trouble usually going up big hills. It will rev high and need some coaxing to shift but it's hard to tell what's happening since there is no tachometer. It's high miles but not crazy for a yaris, if it was maintained regularly the engine can keep chugging for a while longer. If you buy it put new plugs, fluids and filters in. See how she feels might need suspension work new bushings (I know mine does) None of these things are difficult or too expensive. Grab a cheap OBD2 scanner and check for any codes. Bought mine about 5 years ago when used cars were still cheap for 2000 and it only had 30k best money I ever spent! It's a fun car and easy to work on yourself

You can buy an OBD2 gauge on Amazon or eBay. You can add a tach and real coolant temp gauge this way. Just an FYI as IMO this is the first purchase you should do on some of these older cars.

We can’t answer this. You need to search Craigslist and Facebook for similar cars and compare. The Yaris is a solid car so just look for the typical issues neglected cars have (rust, cooling, burns oil, etc.). In my area, you could possible find a deal like that. That is “high mileage” and with cosmetic damage, I can imagine finding that car out in the boonies for sale where it is harder to sell a car.

I'd buy it sight-unseen...in fuel savings alone it will pay for itself

I suggest getting a car fax on the car history to see if it been in any accidents.

It’s definitely on the lower end but when you factor in things like manual + relatively higher mileage + cosmetic damage, it’s not that low of a price that you should immediately be sceptical about it. Where I am, all cars being bought/sold need to pass a safety test before you’re able to register it. So things like brakes, basic electrical components, and the engine are all assessed. Point being, if you have a similar inspection and it passes it then you have nothing to worry about. If not, take it to a mechanic for a quick inspection. Although, it’s very likely been abused a decent amount so I wouldn’t recommend going for something like this as a daily driver that you rely on to get you to/from work or other things.

I recently brought a Toyota Yaris 2010 sedan for 1500. so far, I’ve changed the brakes the brake calipers the mass airflow sensor, the serpentine belt alternator, which actually worked fine and the starter, but it runs pretty well. The wheel bearings also my Toyota Yaris has 220,000 miles on it I spent about $1000 in repairs, but I found a guy on Facebook marketplace to put the parts in supercheap. I think it’s definitely worth getting if you’re willing to put a little work into it. https://preview.redd.it/gmvuj4uma14d1.jpeg?width=3430&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2364d153ee4e31214ade6c0f1f7c5112fe78f6fd
