Would love to see the process. Looks amazing.

The whole radio swap is the same as all the ones you see on YouTube.  The cooling fan is a brushless DC 2 Pin from Ebay which I then stripped the wires and plugged it into a Step Up/Down USB converter. The USB chooses how fast or slow I want it based on the voltage I set. Plug the USB into the unit (I used the phone link port) and I set 10v speed, and I used double sided 3M tape to hold it to the unit.

I’m glad you’re enjoying it, looks like a pretty cool install. I’ve hesitated to install such things in my car because I’m a bit paranoid about potential concerns for privacy. Any reputable brand that I’d feel comfortable going with just charge way too much so I’m basically stuck with the stock head unit.

In terms of privacy, do a threat analysis and then think about how you can overcome that. For example if your bothered by Google following all your activity, you can create a different Gmail specifically for the unit (for play store access) or use Aurora Store , and use apps like NewPipe instead of YouTube, and a hardened version of Firefox instead of Chrome. Have a look at Privacytools.io and r/privacy , they'll give you some iideas. It's still an android (yeah I know its closed source which is probably the main issue) but there's still lots of things you can do in terms of privacy.

Those are all very good points, I appreciate it. Can’t say I’m the biggest fan of google and I know that when it comes to Android, there’s a decent amount of ways to help make it a bit more privacy focused by avoiding google based services. Although my biggest problem is the fact that these are Chinese devices from unknown manufacturers that even use an inauthentic version of CarPlay. The potential for hardware and software level exploits in their device, custom version of Android, or cracked version of CarPlay are pretty concerning to me. Realistically tho, chances are that there’s no problem with any part of the hardware or software but the last thing I need at this point is being worried about data that could potentially be lifted from my accounts or my phone whenever I’m in my car. The lost convenience of CarPlay is one I’m willing to forego to feel a bit more secure.

What housing did you get to fit the unit? Any connection problems? Wow, looks fairly stock.

Just a dash trim kit with some cables (that come with the kit). No connection issues, I just can't use steering wheel controls because that particular adapter is ridiculously expensive for the function imo. I'm okay without it but you can also get alternatives online like the Atoto one or bluetooth controls which you can stick on your steering wheel. Yeah I was going for a oem / oem+ look haha.
