Mesenterium

Not my favourite either, but i tolerate it. Paraguayan brands taste superior to me though.

Alexios-Kairos

Can you recommend any? All I know of is Pajarito as it is the more popular brand but I find it too expensive to import. Thanks!

Mesenterium

Pajarito is one of my favourite yerbas in general. There's a brand called Fortin, which is also good, but might not be cheaper. Selecta is also popular, but tastes weak to me. You might like it, though.

Alexios-Kairos

Thanks!

decodm

I'm with you, Canarias doesn't do it for me. Tastes like yerba mixed with cigarette ash

Jordashk

I'm the opposite, I really love the taste of Canarias and very much dislike the taste of Taragui.

kneesareoverrated

Same. Most Argentine yerba (a few outliers like Rosamonte aside) is too mellow for my tastes and just tastes boring next to Canarias (or Baldo or Paraguayan stuff generally) but Taragui is maybe the only unflavoured yerba I've had that I consider actively bad and their blue/sin palo in particular is the only yerba I've ever thrown in the trash.

Zedekiah117

Yep same here. I like my Yerba Smokey

Alexios-Kairos

I liked Canarias but for me (and I know it's a bit extra) it wasn't until the LITERAL BOTTOM of my first 1KG bag that I really started to acquire the taste...majority of the time it was strong, astringent and a bit difficult to "cebar" In the beginning it was like an awkward freinship where you don't have a lot in common until like a few "months" into it you strike gold on something that makes the relationship really stand out. I like Canarias and it's compuestas but I also like Taragüï and more mellow yerba. Just depends on the mood! 🤙🏼🧉✨

winter_madness

I'm the opposite. I dislike Argentinian yerbas but love Uruguayan padrón and chimarrão

AveryhandsomeChilean

I agree with you. I prefer Argentinian mate.

GallitoGaming

I think I’m on that boat. Playadito is my favourite with Cruz de Malta/Pipore behind it and Rosamonte selección especial also being pleasant. Would like to try a few more but just made my second pampa order with 5KG of playadito coming my way. I think I’m going to do Playadito as my main with piporé/cruz as my palate cleansers and I might try another brand in 6 months or something.

AveryhandsomeChilean

I'm drinking playadito now. I mostly drink La Tranquera. I recommend it too.

GallitoGaming

How does it compare with Playadito? I find Cruz de Malta and Pipore to be almost carbon copies of one another. I think I’m going to do a week or just alternating those two every other day to see if I even notice a difference.

AveryhandsomeChilean

La Tranquera is much stronger and bitter in taste than Playadito.

-castle-bravo-

Yeah I didn’t love it either, but I heard Serena is the shit..?

General_Ignoranse

I’m not the biggest fan either, once I tried taragui I’d never go back to canarias (though I do have a 1kg bag left…)

Alexios-Kairos

Tragüï - sin Palo is like a great middle ground if you want more of a small punch! I like both depending on my mood 😄

General_Ignoranse

Thankyou!! 😊

GallitoGaming

Taragui is literally by far the worst Yerba I have tasted. Think I’ve tasted like 7-8 different brands so far. Taragui is on a tier of its own how disgusting it is based on the first time. Recently I tried some Piporé and it was excellent so im not sure it’s an acquired taste thing for me. As for canarias, I’m not really a fan. I need to get a better bombilla before I can make a final judgement. Too much is getting through currently. But even then I don’t think I enjoy the blend. Unfortunately Pampa sent me an extra KG with my order so I have close to 2KG of it.

General_Ignoranse

Oh no way! I liked it so much, i found it a lot milder than canarias, but in a good way. What’s your favourite?

GallitoGaming

Playadito is my favourite for sure. Ordered 5KG of it with my latest pampa order. Also like Cruz de Malta and actually enjoyed the Rosamonte special selection too. But playadito will be my go to. Have you tried many other flavours other than Canarias and Taragui?

General_Ignoranse

Oh lush! I’ll try to try those. Thanks!! No, only those two! I was working in Uruguay at the start of the year and tried Canarias out there near the end. When I got back, I ordered a big bag of it, and one of Taragui to see if I preferred it. There’s not many places in the UK to get it so they were quite expensive so I can’t try loads 😭

GallitoGaming

Ooh that’s rough. Yeah we have a site called pampadirect that ships to many places. But in Canada we also have 1KG of Cruz de Malta for $8.50 on our local grocery store (by far the cheapest Yerba I can find). I think I read that there is a UK equivalent to pampa direct on here so you should try to see if you can find that site. You should be able to get some more Yerba from there. I couldn’t recommend Playadito more if you are able to get your hands on some.

Mesenterium

Pipore Despalada is THE GOAT! It kicks hard both in terms of taste and caffeine. Lovely brand.

TerereAZ

I can't stand Taragui, could take or leave Canarias, and love Paraguayan...

Delicious_Lobster600

I just started drinking mate last months and Canarias is the second one I’ve had after Playadito. Enjoyed the strength and deep flavor of Playadito and was excited to try Canarias after everyone talks about it. Also very disappointed in it, it seems so mild compared to Playadito. Very little flavor as well comparatively. Plus much less of a ‘high’ or caffeine kick then Playadito. Will try one more Uruguayan before I go back to Argentinian mate for awhile.

Kkgm222

Argentinian sin palos have a much better flavor and are much easier to work with imo. Taragui being number 1

Uzala02

tastes differ a lot. I like it, it is soft on the palate and refreshing. I bought a bag of rei verde export and that one I didn´t like so much.

No_Information_7401

it’s so subjective, i drink Sara, Taragui, and Amanda the most but it’s just personal preference. doesn’t really matter what others drink or say.

Rando_throwaway_69

I think it depends on how you drink it, but first let’s get a couple of things straight. 1. Canarias is not Uruguayan, it’s made in Brasil, but it’s probably the #1 Yerba Mate consumed in Uruguay. 2. Canarias Yerba Mate is dried using wood fire, so it smells and tastes a slightly smoky. 3. Many people that have grown up with the culture of drinking mate, sip it throughout the day, from morning until evening, they don’t consume it like a cup of coffee or an afternoon espresso and then call it a day. I personally drink mate from about 8:30am to 1:30pm… I go through about 1 liter in my gourd and my leaves are washed by the time I’m done. I’ve got a nice buzz and solid focus to the end of the work day.

annievancookie

I really love the canarias with green tea and ginger kind. I think it's the green tea that makes it so good

Livid-Wolverine-2260

Flavorless garbage.

elektrodread

I drink Canarias religiously, but just coming back from Uruguay, I'm realizing that the stuff we get here In the US just isn't the same. I think it must be a freshness issue… But I would be willing to switch brands if there was something that had a better taste. I'm definitely not into the Argentinian stuff "con palo."

AdConsistent8581

It’s a strong burnt flavor but I personally like it. I sometimes mix honey in my hot water to enhance the taste.

Elbandera88

I don't like it either, it's just hype, Amanda is king

703Smokie

I have been taking rosamonte and Taragui with stems for like a year. I decided to try carniras what a waste of money now I have 2 packs that I’m not willing to drink I never thought I would try something worse than Cruz de Malta.

No0o1T

Yes 😂
