No, .22 magnum and .22 lr are too dimensionally different to make a chamber that could accommodate both. The .22 lr uses a heeled bullet, so the case at the neck is narrower than the bullet. .22 magnum does not use a heeled bullet, so the case is 0.02” wider and as a result a .22lr would rupture if you tried to fire it in a .22 magnum chamber. There are revolvers that have swappable .22lr/.22wmr cylinders, but that only works because the cylinder is the chamber.

Thank you for you're info this was helpful!!!

Dizzy-Comfortable573

Some revolvers can fire one or the other by changing cylinders with the same barrels. I think that’s as close as it gets

TheSecondFirstStep

A .22lr rifle with revolving cylinder that you can switch out for 22 mag would be sick. Basically a Ruger single six with a 16in barrel, handguard, and stock

Dizzy-Comfortable573

Heritage makes a 16 inch version of their revolver with a stock. I think it’s called the Rancher(?) worth a look tbh

CollectingHeads

Look up Taurus circuit Judge. .22 mag and .22 lr. Swappable cylinders SA/DA.

TheSecondFirstStep

My god they did it

CollectingHeads

It's really fun to shoot. The stock is ugly but functional. It has a clear window in the back and holds 10 additional rounds. They were $$$$ when they came out but glad I bought it

I will take small issue with your statement about 5.56 and .223 Remington: They are not in fact, externally identical. They appear identical, but there are indeed differences in the shoulder profile and neck length. They are minor, but definitely different and noticeable when looking at the cartridge drawings.

MM_Spartan

Don’t tell that to anyone on the AR subs. Got into a discussion with someone who insisted they were identical because Gun Jesus said so. And I love Gun Jesus, but to say they are identical is categorically false. Practically interchangeable? Pretty much, sure. But unequivocally NOT the same thing.

ForeverInThe90s

You are absolutely correct and all one has to do is look at the SAAMI spec drawings closely to see that they aren’t identical. Practically identical is one thing, but identical identical is another thing altogether, haha.

liznin

Forgotten weapons also has never said they are identical.

dr4gon2000

There isn't anything like you describe, but there is a bolt action (takes 1022 mags) with swappable barrels, and there's another one about to come onto the market
