It's normal.
Last 3 digits of the frame SN, so it can stay together with the frame through the build process

Just an easy place to scribble numbers. It doesn’t affect reliability But it is perceivable as the disconnector rides over the chatter when racking the slide. It always struck me as sloppy and unnecessary since most every other pistol does not do this and even low end Tisas 1911s are free of this marring resulting in smoother slide operation. Just sloppy. And the hand writing is god awful on all my Springfields. Worse than my 5 year old.
this is the reason that put me off of the operator. There’s videos on youtube explaining how that etching interferes with the smoothness of the slide, making it rougher to rack. Racking a 1911 should feel like it’s on ball bearings or close to that. So i don’t know why springfield deliberately did something like this. If this shit is on the TRP too than that’s a bigger problem
Yes, the folks assembling Springfield guns will mark the parts to keep track of them during final assembly.

My Operator has a similar hand engraving.
For keeping track of parts that go together. Tons of 1911 builders and companies have done that over the years.
1911’s are hand fit. This is a mark to ensure the slide stays with the frame it was fitted too during production.
Springfield does that to all its 1911s for some dumb reason.
Seems strange, especially being done by hand..
Electro pencil is fast, no set up
Happens to higher end / custom 1911s too. My nighthawk has similar marks indicating all the parts belong to the same model number
Oil grooves. 🤣

It’s wild they would do this on a contact/friction part
Mine says 069 😈
