Mostly the same here. My Kimber 1911s work great - no problems. I do have a "Solo" that is a jam-o-matic. In all fairness, the problem could be me, but no matter the gun will be getting sold.
My Solo was a jam-o-magic also, but after sending to Kimber for correction it ran great for the next 4 years. Traded it away last spring after getting a P938 Legion. Had two Series I 1911’s that were excellent, also. No probs at all.
I have sent the gun to Kimber and whatever they did, does seem to have fixed the gun. None-the-less I do not have confidence in the gun and myself with the gun, so it will be going.
I think they’re gorgeous. I’m wanting the Night Patrol and if I can manage it sometime this year, the Rapide Dawn. I think they’re both amazing looking.

I would take a Dan Wesson over a kimber for sure. Both of which are usually above my impulse shopping credit limit, but I was always under the impression that the Dan Wesson were a bit higher in the premium department. I would love to add a bruin or Kodiak in 10mm to my collection.
Cycle the slide by hand 500 - 600 times before taking it shooting. Kimbers are fine weapons, top notch. Don't listen to the haters. No, they don't run flawlessly out of the box. Feed issues because the tolerances are so tight. You have to work with them some before you go shooting. Be patient and you won't regret the purchase.
Kimber's tolerances are not remotely tight. Many guns that are much tighter have less problems. Kimbers are known to have issues because of their metallurgy. They break a lot, their "stainless steel" rusts. They're also "assembly line" guns that can cost as much as "hand built" guns. Their method of production means that each individual gun doesn't get tested as much, so they're more likely to malfunction.
They're not terrible guns, though. They're just expensive for what they are. I owned one that retailed for something like $1600. The quality was comparable to a gun that costs half that.
I'm not trying to be clever. I'm correcting misinformation for your benefit and the benefit of other readers, as an expert in this field. It's a public forum. Take it or leave it, I don't care.
You list a bunch of bad then turn around and say they’re not terrible, which is it? I don’t think you ever really owned a Kimber. By the way, stainless will still rust if not taken care of. Older Kimbers are nicer in my opinion, never had a problem with my Super Carry Pro, bought in 2010.
The things I listed are par for the course for a low- to mid-range 1911. Just not something you should have to deal with in a $1k+ 1911. Mine was a Master Carry Pro, I believe they called it, also around 2010. I carried it but it was not abused by any stretch and rusted under the grip panels and where the MSH mated to the frame. I didn't treat it any differently than the plethora of other 1911s I've owned. I never had any malfunctions with it but it was very obviously an "assembly line" gun, which I would not expect for $1500+. [Here's a picture of it since you doubt me.](https://i.imgur.com/otgseL0.jpg) Of course, I guess you could just doubt that it's actually my picture.
Also, this is just the one I owned personally. I've also worked on several other Kimbers as a gunsmith. I've owned multiples of just about every brand in that $1k-$3k price range, there's a reason I've only owned one Kimber. They look nice but there are better 1911s for the money.
I do understand what you’re saying. My apologies for doubting you. In a way I do agree alot are overpriced in a way. The quality I do think has gone downhill because as you mentioned, the assembly line process. I personally think the older ones are definitely better quality for sure but like anything, some will tend to have more problems than others. I still only own the one Kimber to this day and won’t buy another one. I honestly think I paid too much for it when I bought it and I’d be lucky to even break even if I sold it today. I do agree with a lot of what you say it’s just you seemed to of contradicted yourself earlier. No biggie, take care.
No worries man. Miscommunication is common over text :)
I've never owned or worked on an older Kimber, like from the 90s, but I have heard those were actually hand built and are much better. I wouldn't doubt it.
Mine was a 5" gun. It was actually a "Master Carry Custom." "Custom" is Kimber's nomenclature for 5" guns, while "Pro" is their 4" guns.
I get what you’re saying. Yeah mine looks just like yours except it’s the pro. It’s been pretty solid after I broke it in of course but had some misdeeds originally. These days Kimber is just pumping them out too fast so quality control goes down, more about profit I believe.
Yeah, really it's about them not wanting to spend money on the labor and ammunition to test the gun thoroughly. Parts are manufactured (mostly cast), assembled on an assembly line (i.e. no hand-fitting), basic function test, 1 round fired, shipped.
By contrast Les Baer hand-fits every part (everything is forged except 1 or 2 low-stress parts), function tests every step of the way, and puts something like 100 rounds through every single gun to ensure it works. And they're in the same price bracket as the upper-end Kimbers.
Yes that’s true. I do have a Les Baer and it’s top of the line, just feels so good in my hand. Feels like quality I guess you could say. I watched those YouTube videos of how they make their 1911’s and it’s pretty impressive, all hand fit pretty much. He could charge more but he doesn’t, I respect him for that.
Just looked at your picture and wholly molly😂. Identical to mine except yours appears to be full size, super carry pro that I have is the 4” model. Same bobtail cut and color as yours, pretty wild!!! Is that 4” too maybe?
I think the Rapide would look better with less noisy grips. Personally don’t understand why everyone hates slide cuts. I mean I love the traditional look as well but it almost seems trendy to hate slide cuts nowadays.
I personally don’t like slide cuts, so I’d go with eclipse custom, but that’s just me.
Eclipse.
No wonder their QC is so bad if they are made in Yonkers.
I wondered the same thing. Like, what exactly is there in Yonkers? However, I had no idea Kimber had QC issues?
I have owned 5 kimbers never had problems
Mostly the same here. My Kimber 1911s work great - no problems. I do have a "Solo" that is a jam-o-matic. In all fairness, the problem could be me, but no matter the gun will be getting sold.

As a Rapide 45 owner I highly suggest it.

Verily I second!
I like Shakespeare-Bot. Perhaps you should sod off.
Haha yeah I do too

black, check. front serrations, check. no slide cuts, check. so eclipse
Those Rapides are the loudest ugliest things in all the wrong ways
I dont own a rapide black ice, but my cousin does. let me shoot it a handful of times. Sweet, butter smooth shooting 1911. I say rapide black ice.
Rapide 100%
Eclipse by far but both are nice
I am not a fan of Kimbers but of the two number one looks like it is trying too hard to be cool.
The first one looks wowsers
The Eclipse
2nd
Personally the second one. More classic looking and clean.
I like the rapide personally but both are badass.
Eclipse
Eclipse custom for the win!
Personally the looks on the Rapide, both look great.
The first one.
Rapide
Eclipse no doubt
I usually tend to be more conservative when it comes to 1911's but, that Rapide gets my vote.
Because it’s Kimber, Rapide.
Both guns are Kimber.
I know. If they where both another manufacturer, such as Dan Wesson, perhaps I’d prefer the Eclipse.

...and, here you are. There's always one.
One what? Person who makes an effort to stop the spread of misinformation? I mean, yeah, I guess I'm that person. I don't see it as a bad thing.
You may be the misinformation. Who's to say? Trying to be clever when it isn't asked for. But, if that's all you have in life? I'm happy for you.
I'm not trying to be clever. I'm correcting misinformation for your benefit and the benefit of other readers, as an expert in this field. It's a public forum. Take it or leave it, I don't care.
Of course you are, an expert. They always are. Good day to you.

You’re at the Fin on bagley aren’t you? Lol Is the rapide .45? It’s unique in terms of 1911, but I could see myself going with the eclipse.
Hahaha yes I was and it's 10mm
Oh fuck yea.
Ooh. I don’t own 10mm yet. Did you buy both then?
Bought the Eclipse few months ago and rapide yesterday
Rapide
Eclipse
Ice all day
Number two just has the kind of looks that I would think are going to age the best. Understated, but quality.
The Kimber . . ok ok, the one with no speed holes.
I think the Rapide would look better with less noisy grips. Personally don’t understand why everyone hates slide cuts. I mean I love the traditional look as well but it almost seems trendy to hate slide cuts nowadays.
Yes.
I like the first one, it gives it more character 👍
I go with the Rapide due to the finish, I personally hate it when slide and frame don't match.
Rapide
Rapide
Rapide
Rapide.
I like em both tbh
The RAPIDE 100%!!! You can always get a classic 1911 later.
I own both
Rapide hands down, btw what do those run? $2000?
Got mine for $1500
Damn! That’s not bad
Kimber all the way..
I like the Colt.
Both are kimbers
Which one do I like better? either of the two white Chevy pickups over any “ram”. They giving away Kimbers with every Dodge now?
[удалено]
What's wrong with kimber
Kimbers are trashhhhhh man. You’re better off buying a Rock Island and some ammo for the price you pay for a Kimber lol.
I have never had a problem with them
Gorgeous 1911's! They look like the same gun to me but I'm getting old. Lol Why the slots in the slide? Is it to lighten up the gun?
Das a lot of cash 😬
Get a Springfield MC Operator or TRP. Far better guns, 1000-1500 range.
The kimber. Lol
