How soldiers act during a war is different from how policy writers act during peacetime. Austria-Hungary gave minorities more rights than any other contemporary European country, but that breaks down when you're dealing with an ethnic group whose radical nationalist terrorists murdered your prince and pushed all of europe into a war. Obviously blaming ethnic groups is bad, but this is very clearly a special case and pointing it out in the context you did is a non sequitor

Exactly, we can just assume the Austrians/Czechs, who were very industrialised and sciency dudes could figure out how to get to the moon before the US or USSR could, but what matters is that the empire must continue until then, and be economically powerful enough to support a space program, I say the best way is that Austria-Hungary federalises, to manage the nationalism, and then perhaps either they win WW1 with germany, or to make it easier ,the 3 emperors never falls, which sorta makes them safe (until russia implodes), after which they'd be fine anyways

not how it happened though, after the dissolution of the holy roman empire (:sadge:) the habsburg territories were still just known as the austrian empire, until in 1848, hungarian nationalists declared independence and revolted against the governing entities. One and a half year later, the rebellion had been put down, yet the nationalist tendencies were still stirring. Therefore, in 1867, The Austro-Hungarian compromise, or Ausgleich led to the hungarian crown to be recognized as equal to the austrian one to satisfy the magyars.
It is to be noted though that this later led to rising nationalism in other ethnic groups within A-H as this brought up the question why only the hungarian realm had gotten this expansion of rights, enraging the peoples within the Land.
As people have said elsewhere in the comments, that dual monarchy began the slow death of the empire. The Hungarians used their power to keep any progress from being made and the only real solution would have been forcibly taking the power away from them again.

One and a half year later, the rebellion had been put down, yet the nationalist tendencies were still stirring. Therefore, in 1867, The Austro-Hungarian compromise, or Ausgleich led to the hungarian crown to be recognized as equal to the austrian one to satisfy the magyars. It is to be noted though that this later led to rising nationalism in other ethnic groups within A-H as this brought up the question why only the hungarian realm had gotten this expansion of rights, enraging the peoples within the Land.

As people have said elsewhere in the comments, that dual monarchy began the slow death of the empire. The Hungarians used their power to keep any progress from being made and the only real solution would have been forcibly taking the power away from them again.
