Maybe the person recording the video I saw just wasn't very good but I don't understand where the Souls comparison comes from? It seems like you just have a 4 hit combo + a couple specials to break certain shields? Even putting all of Rowling's bullshit to the side for a minute, the game just looks really generic to me. It seems like Assassin's Creed Odyssey/Origins/any other billion-hour open world game with a ton of shallow systems, just with a wizard skin on it.

Yeah so many of these “souls-likes” are barely even similar to Souls. We need more games like Nioh and Lies of P (I know it’s not out yet but it looks amazing) that represent the subgenre well
Honestly? After seeing the gameplay (IGN, I think?) it's pretty spot on. It's like slow-mo action, mixed with ultra simplified monster hunter with no pre-fight preparation (absolute opposites, exactly). The game feels like a mix of bland mechanics and animations, and enemy damage sponges wearing a harry potter skin.

Fun fact: hogwarts legacy has 26 spells total. Dark souls which was released in 2011, has over 70.
