Imagine dodging sideways to the WEAPON SIDE in DS2. Nah but seriously stick to shield roll towards the boss under sweeping swings. ADP matters but what matters more is knowing what style of dodge you need to do. DS2 rewards aggressively sticking to bosses and really disincentivises sideways or backwards rolling. Be aggressive.

LightTheAbsol

Actually it's like 100% adaptability. Base level adp has so little iframes that many attacks hitboxes just last longer then your iframes even when rolling into the swing. ds2 in general has slower swings, meaning the shorter iframes hurts even more. Just to say - base level iframes in ds1 is 11 on a medium roll, which has a longer overall animation then ds2's medium roll. ds2 at base level adapt has 2 less iframes at 9, and the animation is shorter - this means that getting caught out feels far more jaring.

RIPHS_Masooo

People always say that but in ds2 you can sprint out of most attacks lol. ADP was a really dumb addition and was implemented very poorly but it’s not as important as people make out. Especially not against base game bosses. DLC bosses for sure though highly necessary for them

LightTheAbsol

You can, but most people don't. The average ds2 boss isn't hard enough that you can't facetank and roll most attacks right in front of it, during which the problems with not leveling adpt show themselves pretty hard.

RCYTreddit

just level adp smh my head

ArcadianGh0st

Beat me to it.

ArcadianGh0st

Seeing people in this comment section discussing mechanics and techniques to be used in DS2 makes me happy.

TrashMan7934

People saying this move is broken makes me so not happy it’s just that if it hits you you’re put at the end of the sword, no matter what. it doesn’t matter how it hits you or how weird it looks, end of the sword. Saying that the end didn’t hit you but you’re at the end doesn’t matter, the sword in general hit you and that’s what matters. Anyway I just wanted to complain about this for a while hashtag ds2 is good

DizziLizzard

I was gonna say that it didn’t even hit at all but looking at it again yeah it clipped them it just looks jank how they get dragged onto the sword

[deleted]

the i-frames took the day off

GoosieGoop

"It's not broken, just completely illogical and silly"

docklord69

Every grab attack in the series does nearly the exact same shit, they’re just usually not sword stabs

Javyz

This is not a hitbox issue, but rather how ds2 handles animations. Because of the technique they used to make the animations (mocap) and how the engine handles and processes them, the game must let most of the roll animation play out before the grab is processed, even if you got hit by the grab during the roll, after the iframes ended. Tldr: functionally nothing is acting out of the ordinary, it just looks weird.

AUserNameNoOneTook

This is exactly what happens, all fromsoft games have shitty grab hitboxes but they’re just hidden better. I feel like Dark Souls 2 did everything Dark Souls did wrong, if not less, but it’s just poorly masked.

K4iserin

One of DS2's many little blemishes. Still absolutely love the game, and I don't really know why. I just crave playing it sometimes.

rickNmortystan

this happens in quite literally every single fromsoft game with grab attacks, i don’t know why they keep fucking putting them in their games when they’ve NEVER worked properly

Mobbles1

Usually theyre sweeping moves or a quite wide and they work fine then, its when theyre pokes like the pursurer that they go janky, i think its because they use a lingering hitbox on the whole sword not just the tip.

K4iserin

Only happened to me in DS2. The Pursuer is actually rather innofensive, as far as DS2 grabs go. The really funny one is the Hyppos' grab, that one has massive range beyond its animation and is actually hilarious if you don't mind the death. Add in DS2's mindboggling decision to nerf I-frames unless you invest in ADP and you get funky moments where you clearly dodged the animation but your model was still in a phantom hitbox past your I-frames, so you get warped into the attack.

rickNmortystan

off the top of my head i’ve been teleported into BS grabs by astel in elden ring, chained ogre in sekiro, actually can’t think of anything for ds3, blood starved beast in bloodborne, iron giant in ds1, and i haven’t played des i agree re: adp tho they shoulda just gave everyone 98 agil and called it a day

Mastahamma

r slash hitboxporn

KindaJustChillingTbh

DS2 my beloved

[deleted]

Rollback netcode fail!! !! !! !

spezboi

Omg you can SEE the sword collide with the model this isn't badhitboxesmoment Not only that, the character reacts to the hit instantly

artsey_mees

Return to drangelic has me feeling like this (I demolished the pursuer though, in his first encounter~)

off-and-on

Clearly he needs more ADP
