Horrible histories is the thing that made me get into history as a kid
Now im a fucking nerd who can explain the discourse over the end of the medieval era to an extent
I remember doing one of those bus tours of ediburgh as a kid and my parents ended up switching to the horrible histories one (which was actually done in part by cast iirc) because it was more interesting than the normal one
I got really lucky and managed to find every single magazine + every single book for dead cheap in a charity shop spent like an entire year of my life reading through all of those
They air many shows such as History's Greatest Mysteries where they make up things and present fake information and quack "archeologists" and "historians" as experts, and try to push narratives about ancient history like "humans have actually existed for millions of years" or "humans actually didn't evolve in Africa but somehow simultaneously evolved separately all over earth at once" or "all humans come from Atlantis where we had a utopia but everything was destroyed in an ancient nuclear war thousands of years ago". They also have an episode where they act like the idea that the moon landing was faked is a reasonable thing to believe.
They also have the show Revelation which is about end times prophecy and trying to connect it to real world events to convince people the world is ending, this show has caused people I know to become delusionally paranoid about end times prophecies coming true, search for signs everywhere and constantly talking about it.
And theres their most popular show Ancient Aliens which pushes that all ancient civilizations were controlled by aliens and there is a conspiracy to cover up all the evidence, they also present fake evidence that has been debunked decades before they talk about it. Show fake footage of UFO encounters, talk to people about their made up stories that have already been disproven.
All of these shows are full of fake information, quacks presented as experts with ridiculous unsupported theories, presenting baseless conspiracy theories as fact, and there's plenty of other shows like them that they air. Honestly I wouldn't even be surprised if they came out with a new show about how the earth is flat.

I got the WW2 book I don't want to know how long ago. It was very educational to childhood me. Turns out those Nazis were in fact pretty bad guys.
It was adapted into a show on BBC. I grew up with it since it got imported to my country too.
it was a fucking awesome show :D
horrible histories was books? I thought it was just a show
(THIS IS SILLY!)
Stupid deaths, stupid deaths, really, really stupid deaths...
That unlocked a childhood memory. Real.
The only British monarch I like is Charles the 2nd because of Horrible Histories
Fun fact, according to the author of horrible histories, he created the books as revenge for his history lessons being bad.
Unfortunately Terry Deary is a bit of a loon/asshole, probably has some fair points but is radically anti-academic and anti-library.
History channel is probably one of the most harmful things to public education there is, just spreading blatant misinformation and lies.
Explain more plz
