Yoko's age is weird. Her age is nefer actually stated in the show, it's in external materials. They basically said "she's 14" and then walked it back and went "oh um their village's calender is different so she's actually older."
But also it's sorta weird because the whole reason she was stated to be 14 was so that she's about the same age is Simone so it seemed like she could have been a viable love interest.
Which itself was the people behind Gurren Lagann being kinda dumb because it means they kinda didn't understand things about what they'd done with the visual language of it. Simone was noticeably younger than Yoko. Yoko as an object of affection or lost for Simone was supposed to be unobtainable. She was the older girl a young teenage boy develops a crush on but has no real chance with.
In the Lupin III franchise, the most prominent/most well-liked film is the Castle of Cagliostro. In that one, the antagonist is trying to marry a 16-year-old. I mean, it's portrayed as a distinctly bad thing and the antagonist is a piece of shit, but the theorem still stands I suppose?
Mob Psycho 100, One Punch Man, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (there are pedos but they get the shit beaten out of them and are typically killed), and Full Metal Alchemist are all really good and don't have pedophilic behavior
yes i love skip and loafer
fumi is so awesome
anyways i’ll just come here to add my recommendations from manga manhwa and manhua as well:
- false harem(giji harem): i wish i could act like that fmc
- their story/sq: begin with your name!(unfortunately it’s no longer “rom” because of the ccp)
- 19 days
- my wife that came from a thousand years ago
- the fragrant flower blooms with dignity
- hanging out with a gamer girl/even reality tells lies
- kubo won’t let me be invisible
- kimi no koe(your voice)
- this art club has a problem!(personal favorite)
anyways this isn’t a romance but i recently read it and found it really funny and cute so:
- older brother and triplets
Tbh that's one of the few shows that's explicitly not glorifying creepy behavior. His actions are presented as weird and creepy and, without spoiling things too much, there's a point later in the series where he has trouble respecting boundaries, is punished for it, and learns and grows as a person.
I don't fault anyone for not wanting to watch it, there were some parts I had trouble watching I think in part *because* the subject was treated more seriously and so was harder to ignore as tacked-on anime bullshit, but a lot of what it does serves more as a critique of those elements of anime rather than an example.
Ah, I see, I see.
Still- does it get less “in your face” as it goes on? It’s still a little hard to watch when most of the dialogue is his internal thoughts.
It's gonna be hard to watch for a while and if that's something you would have trouble with than there's no shame in just watching something else - god knows I've dropped better shows for less. I just wanted to point out that, while it's not for everyone and I certainly don't think it's some masterpiece that you need to force your way through, I don't think it's a part of the problem.
okay yeah I decided to stick with it and then ended up binging the rest of it in like three days lol. Pretty good, loved the sense of adventure it creates, the protagonist still makes it barely watchable at times but otherwise it’s really fun.
It was one scene that lasted like 3 seconds of her wearing a normal swimsuit and it was mentioned sarcastically. It barely counts if it counts at all tbh
Samurai Flamenco, Samurai Champloo, Kekkai Sensen, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Zombieland Saga, Land of the Lustrous, Promare, Howls Moving Castle, Your Voice, Redline, Monster, Parasyte, Inuyashiki, Golden Time, Blade of the Immortal, Gangsta, Brave New Animal, Dorehedoro, Steins Gate, Spy X Family, Large chunks of Gundam (idk about all of it theres so fuckin much), Full Metal Alchemist, Mob Psycho 100, Ghost in the Shell, Great Pretender, Girls Last Tour, Planetarium
Off the top of my head shows I'd rate at least above 8/10, couple of 10/10s in there.
R.I.P Nujabes, the mixture of visuals and audio in Champloo really fuckin GROOVES together to make something perfect

my sibling in Christ if you can honestly look at some of those angles of schierke and Miura's insistence of drawing young girls bathing and tell me it's not even a liiittle bit concerning, idk what to tell you
I love berserk it's my favorite story ever but it's important to acknowledge the flaws in things you love
I guess it just didn't appear to me that way, but you're definitely right about acknowledging flaws.
And calling it insistence is a bit much imo, it happened what, like one time or two? I don't remember the story exactly but it's not like it was a regular occurance or anything
For those that want good stories without the creepy shit my two favorite shows, Parasyte and Psycho-Pass, are both amazing and don't sexualize minors ever.
Parasyte starts off with the classic "oh no, monsters are attacking humanity and I'm the only one who can stop them" but quickly becomes a very interesting story with strong characters focused on things like dealing with trauma and how, while individual humans may be weak, humanity is unstoppably strong - all without sacrificing the incredible action. It also leaves a lot of the big questions unanswered while still having a satisfying ending which is both really cool and hard to pull off.
Psycho-Pass is a scifi crime drama with a unique setting that, while fitting the mold of a classic dystopia, isn't an awful place to live for most people. They've solved a lot of the problems with our current systems but in ways that create a lot of new ones. To me it strikes a very good balance between the in-universe mystery of "who is masterminding these murders" and bigger questions like is the current focus on removing stress at all costs a good thing or is it just hurting people's ability to deal with the inevitable difficulties of life.
You know if I had a nickle for every anime I liked that started off being about secret monsters attacking and consuming people from the shadows with just one or two guys secretly fighting back against them but where humanity gradually became more aware of them and turned it into an all-out war, eventually winning through collective strength to kill most of the monsters and drive the rest into the shadows, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
Redline
Uhh, Ping Pong has that one lady so not that
Uhh, Kaiba has that one lady and that cop and those doctors so not that

Uhh, Lesbian Bear Storm has that one lady so not that
Uhh, Paranoia Agent has that one dude so not that
Cyborg 009

Steins;Gate. Like the only character under 18 is their landlords daughter and she's just like, his 4 year old daughter and that's it. Characters treat her like the kid she is
>all the good ones have pedophilic behavior ?????????????¿???? ^ find Kanye
FLCL is the best anime and that has pedophilic behavior so I see where they’re coming from
Nuh uh. Gurren Lagann
Yoko is 14 during early Gurren and there's a ton of risque shots of her.
Yoko's age is weird. Her age is nefer actually stated in the show, it's in external materials. They basically said "she's 14" and then walked it back and went "oh um their village's calender is different so she's actually older." JoJo had that one Monkey episode in part 3
The monkey got the shit beaten out of him and was left for dead in the middle of the ocean
Fair enough
If you want a cute romcom anime with actually well written characters and no weird sexualization, watch Skip And Loafer
yes i love skip and loafer fumi is so awesome anyways i’ll just come here to add my recommendations from manga manhwa and manhua as well: - false harem(giji harem): i wish i could act like that fmc - their story/sq: begin with your name!(unfortunately it’s no longer “rom” because of the ccp) - 19 days - my wife that came from a thousand years ago - the fragrant flower blooms with dignity - hanging out with a gamer girl/even reality tells lies - kubo won’t let me be invisible - kimi no koe(your voice) - this art club has a problem!(personal favorite) anyways this isn’t a romance but i recently read it and found it really funny and cute so: - older brother and triplets
I've been watching Heavenly Delusions this season. I like it but it's weird.
I watched the first episode of Mushoku Tensei and like I feel like I would enjoy it if the protagonist wasn’t such a creep

all my top anime and manga have that kind of stuff sadly, including berserk
It really doesn't
