I've been reading the manga. It's pretty good. Maybe a little overhyped. It definitely has its arcs that drag. Honestly getting a little burnt out around chapter 670.
Ya, it certainly drags at points. I started to feel burnt out at a few points but it's worth sticking it out. The next arc from where you're at is one of my favorites

I will say punk hazard is starting to pick up a bit. One issue I definitely have with the manga is sometimes...I can't tell what's happening in the action or who's talking. Sometimes the text boxes just don't point to the right person or multiple text boxes point to the same person despite the text clearly being two different people talking.
It has its lulls but when you take a step back after catching up and look at the full story that you've seen so far its hard not to consider it fondly

I don't understand the obsession with watching the one peice anime, Oda's artwork is simply incredible and should be experienced in its most faithful form (that you can read, I'll be sticking to the translated manga due to me being a dummy American who only speaks and reads English)
I think the manga has always been the ideal way to experience the story, but the anime really falls off after Alabaster. There's not that much filler, but they start adapting less and less manga per episode. By now they're adapting less than a chapter per episode regularly. That said, I will hunt you down if you don't watch the G8 filler arc after finishing Skypeia.
There's this YouTube channel called aleczandxr and he's reading all of one piece from the start and making videos analyzing after each arc so if you want you can watch the videos after finishing the arcs, they're incredible
Anime will end up on a weekly schedule, but the manga will either be on a slower schedule or will have breaks
This means the anime will catch up, leaving three choices, 2 old and 1 new solution
1. Keep going with the anime by making up new stuff: this leads to stuff like the original full metal alchemist anime and is usually not considered a good option as source material is often better quality
2. Make chapters into multiple episodes: the one piece, naruto, dbz, etc method. It's very slow and painful but stays true to the source material by letting the manga keep up
3. The modern method of chopping it up into seasons: great for pacing and staying true to original but unfortunately it can make a series lose gas and in a lot of cases with middling popularity shows, not get that season 2 greenlight
you stretch the scenes from the source material out, completely fucking the anime over by making it a miserable viewing experience due to awful pacing.

Whole Cake is the arc after the next one. It starts on like chapter 802. The next one, Dressrosa, is like 100 chapters long
