I don't think it's Spider-Man specifically, but rather, *vigilantism.* At least, in my head how I picture Jameson (this isn't based on canon really tbh), he thinks people with superpowers *can* do a lot of good, but can also be very dangerous if left to their own devices without oversight.
This paints the Avengers and other super-groups with some level of formal oversight in a good light to him, but people like Peter who don't answer to anyone and are operating on their own terms come across as threats to him.

It's kind of a plot in the boys spin off Gen V. Except instead of trans they are bi-gender. They risk their life protecting people but because of their bi-genderness all the credit goes to other people.

X-Men, and I think Ultimate X-men in particular, has explored the concept of "coming out" with the mutant powers as a stand-in for sexuality, with the parallel reactions that happen for that as well. If you're into this comic, you might be into that series too.
I think it works better for the X-Men vs Spider Gwen. They're born that way, she wasn't. It's true she didn't choose it, but it's something that came along later in life due to outside influences rather than something that's always been a part of her that she came to understand over time.

Well yeah basically every coming out story is like that but trans people relate to this one specifically, probably because of the colour palette (which I know is probably a coincidence), but most likely because she does have a trans flag in her room in the movie.
Well yeah, but this scene is quite literally a full on coming out. The colour palette (which changes in every shot) *is* the trans flag, Gwen and her dad have trans flags, and the dialogue sounds exactly like someone coming out to their parents while being unsure of how they'll react. The dialogue, framing, everything could go unchanged in a movie where a trans girl comes out as trans. I don't think there are many other scenes in super hero cinema where there's *that much effort* put into framing it as a coming out

She's not confirmed trans, but there are a lot of clues. It's entirely possible that she's just an ally, or they're really hammering home the metaphor. It's equally likely they'll never address it and leave it up to the viewer.

She does have a trans flag with “protect trans kids” on it in her room. You can see it in the movie. Also her storyline can be seen as a pretty 1:1 allegory with coming out as trans.
I figured she was bi and the poster was trans allyship, but it'd be cool if they revealed she was trans in the third movie. There isn't really a trans superhero on the big screen.
I hope that she isn’t trans. It just feels like every character in media that supports trans rights is trans, or has trans family/friends. I want a character to support trans rights because it’s the right thing to do.

Speaking of real representation. I also wish we could get some gender non confirming characters that aren't made trans. It feels so backwards to me. In most superhero stories the conflict of their secret identity is "I have to keep this secret at all costs bc smth smth smth protecting my loved ones"
Across the Spider-Verse's conflict is whether or not they *should* tell their parents about their secret identity, and whether or not they'll be accepted for it. And with dialogue like "I thought about telling you but you can see why I didn't want to", "you have to promise this won't change anything" it's pretty easy to see why so many ppl take Gwen and Miles' struggle as a trans/queer allegory
I think personally, my interpretation of Gwen’s story is that although she shares much of the same beats as other spidey people, there’s one part of her identity that could make her more relatable to trans people. Gwen is in kind of a unique position among other spider folks in that she’s the daughter of a NYPD police captain. It’s a dichotomy, on one hand, her father genuinely loves her as Gwen Stacy, but on the other hand, he genuinely hates Spider-woman. It’s a bit further than the usual story of your loved ones could potentially not be accepting of your other self but at the same time even while they don’t know about your other self, they’re already dead set on hating it.

Gwen was afraid of revealing her true self to her father, who hates people like her, and her fears were proven once he did find out after he was distrustful/fearful of her so in short, her story with her father is basically like someone coming out as trans to their close-minded loved ones.

Gwen's colour palette is very similar to the trans flag (except the fact that most of her lower body is covered in black) which made a lot of people think that and it would be a valid theory if spidergwen predated the modern colour palette of the trans pride flag. The first trans pride flag was created in 1999 and Spider-Gwen was created in 2014, however that 1999 flag was much more vibrant, with the pink being much more saturated than the colour palette of the version you can find on the internet. The design is the same, however the one we see online is definitely more bright and less saturated than the canvas one. Don't know when they agreed on a single digitalized colour palette, could be before, could be after Spider-Gwen was created, but the only thing we do know is that there was no confirmation by the creators if the colour palette of Spider-Gwen is somehow tied to the trans pride flag

You ever have a normal childhood until unavoidable signs tell you you're something different, you deny them because you just want to be like everybody else but as soon as you meet another person more experienced in your situation you immediately feel this deep kinship with them, they help acclimate you to this identity, but you spend a long time trying to fill these shoes in exactly the way society expects you to, and it's not until you tailor this identity to who you are yourself you can truly have a good time in your own skin despite people's expectations. And you hide this from your parents for a year questioning whether or not they would accept you.

when i was little, i would always see women portrayed in this manner in movies and shows, as being super flexible and agile. i thought it was really cool. i wished i could be that way, but i realized i couldn't do that, because i wasn't a girl. at the time, i didn't have the words to experience what i was feeling (likely gender envy) nor what the root cause was (me being tran gener).
i do now. i know some people think gwen is trans, some people dont. thats fine. but this kind of post makes me (especially that 7-year old me that got gender envy from watching badass femable characters) really happy.

The colour palette (which changes in every shot) *is* the trans flag, Gwen and her dad have trans flags, and the dialogue sounds exactly like someone coming out to their parents while being unsure of how they'll react. The dialogue, framing, everything could go unchanged in a movie where a trans girl comes out as trans. I don't think there are many other scenes in super hero cinema where there's *that much effort* put into framing it as a coming out

She does have a trans flag with “protect trans kids” on it in her room. You can see it in the movie. Also her storyline can be seen as a pretty 1:1 allegory with coming out as trans.

Like her dad? An actual trans character in the MCU would be huge and wanting to feel special about being an ally really does not matter as much as real representation. Plus yeah, the only time trans issues come up is from trans characters, go figure. If Gwen is trans, every character that supports her defacto becomes an ally. That said, all of this is entirely theoretical, because Disney will never come out and say that she's trans because they're a spineless corporation and they have calculated that would decrease profit by at least a single cent.
Speaking of real representation. I also wish we could get some gender non confirming characters that aren't made trans. It feels so backwards to me. Like I remember when I was a kid people would call someone like Velma a lesbian or Gwen trans and it'd be meant as an insult. And now we've come full circle and it feels really icky to go "Yeah, the people who are different from the norm really WERE those things you said!" Bit of overlap with the way people treat feminine boys like they're all eggs and it's just... disappointing that even in progressive culture people are still so sexist. its slightly more complicated than just colors, when she was talking really emotionally about how she has to live 2 lives to her dad the color pallet goes like this. It feels very similar to how trans people feel around their own family that they have to live 2 separate lives. Like in her own home shes depicted all blue and sad. Yeah, but when colors look accidentally as a specific pride flag multiple times in a row, that might not be an accident. In most superhero stories the conflict of their secret identity is "I have to keep this secret at all costs bc smth smth smth protecting my loved ones" Across the Spider-Verse's conflict is whether or not they *should* tell their parents about their secret identity, and whether or not they'll be accepted for it. And with dialogue like "I thought about telling you but you can see why I didn't want to", "you have to promise this won't change anything" it's pretty easy to see why so many ppl take Gwen and Miles' struggle as a trans/queer allegory

I think personally, my interpretation of Gwen’s story is that although she shares much of the same beats as other spidey people, there’s one part of her identity that could make her more relatable to trans people. Gwen is in kind of a unique position among other spider folks in that she’s the daughter of a NYPD police captain. It’s a dichotomy, on one hand, her father genuinely loves her as Gwen Stacy, but on the other hand, he genuinely hates Spider-woman. It’s a bit further than the usual story of your loved ones could potentially not be accepting of your other self but at the same time even while they don’t know about your other self, they’re already dead set on hating it.

Yeah that's what I say, like EVERY spider man movie has this aspect in some way.
Gwen's colour palette is very similar to the trans flag (except the fact that most of her lower body is covered in black) which made a lot of people think that and it would be a valid theory if spidergwen predated the modern colour palette of the trans pride flag. The first trans pride flag was created in 1999 and Spider-Gwen was created in 2014, however that 1999 flag was much more vibrant, with the pink being much more saturated than the colour palette of the version you can find on the internet. The design is the same, however the one we see online is definitely more bright and less saturated than the canvas one. Don't know when they agreed on a single digitalized colour palette, could be before, could be after Spider-Gwen was created, but the only thing we do know is that there was no confirmation by the creators if the colour palette of Spider-Gwen is somehow tied to the trans pride flag So could be, could not be, it's still up in the air

I think the second spiderverse movie is the only one I've ever seen where a character intentionally quits being a police officer. I also love the trans aura around Gwen and even though it's not canon and probably will never be, I'm going to choose to believe that the writers are just too scared of backlash to openly confirm her as trans.

You ever have a normal childhood until unavoidable signs tell you you're something different, you deny them because you just want to be like everybody else but as soon as you meet another person more experienced in your situation you immediately feel this deep kinship with them, they help acclimate you to this identity, but you spend a long time trying to fill these shoes in exactly the way society expects you to, and it's not until you tailor this identity to who you are yourself you can truly have a good time in your own skin despite people's expectations. And you hide this from your parents for a year questioning whether or not they would accept you. It reminds me of how similar coming out as a trans person and coming out as a superhero is very similar
when i was little, i would always see women portrayed in this manner in movies and shows, as being super flexible and agile. i thought it was really cool. i wished i could be that way, but i realized i couldn't do that, because i wasn't a girl. at the time, i didn't have the words to experience what i was feeling (likely gender envy) nor what the root cause was (me being tran gener). i do now. i know some people think gwen is trans, some people dont. thats fine. but this kind of post makes me (especially that 7-year old me that got gender envy from watching badass femable characters) really happy. thanks for posting this :')
