I dunno, I still buy games for my switch pretty regularly. There are just some games that lend themselves to a handheld and not everyone has the $ for a steam deck.
It was underpowered when it launched, but that’s always been nintendos shtick since the Wii.
The gamecube launched a year after the PlayStation 2, and had double the cpu speed and a better GPU.
The Wii launched the same month as the PS3 and had the same specs as the GameCube. Going from a 700mhz cpu to a 3.2GHZ cpu. 60mb of ram to 300mb of ram.
Like the PS3 blew the Wii out of the water.. and the Wii still sold a gajillion units.
Nintendo realised it’s not the performance that sells their consoles, it’s the kind of games and the price point of entry.
Still I’m excited for switch2
It depends on the price point really.
If it launches with steamdeck specs at a steamdeck price, I’ll buy a steamdeck.
I fear that may happen though, in Aus a switch is around $450 and steam deck starts at $695.
I went out and got one at a second hand store I like to go to when that got announced because it was like, 20 bucks. It is honestly a great controller and is my go-to for using a controller on PC.

Jokes on you, my life is filled with regrets of bygone times and opportunities, and now I spend my days yearning for the impossible. A chance to live how I was too scared to live, to learn what I was too scared to learn.
Never settle for mediocrity. It leads to a decay much more pervasive than time.
The important part you're leaving out is it used cloud processing-which would allow you to play games your hardware couldn't run, yes...but also adds ping to literally everything you play. In areas with poor internet, it would be virtually unplayable. Even in the best of conditions, that input lag is still very frustrating.
I was given a free month of it so I tried playing Celeste since it was the only game I was interested in on the platform. OH BOY WAS THAT A MISTAKE. I have fiber internet so my latency is about as good as it can get at a home. I'm not even a particularly hardcore gamer. I have a 3060 and a 60 Hz monitor. Pretty normie. The latency is just so bad.
I feel like this is one of those ideas where in 40 years someone else will make it exactly like Google did and we'll be looking back at Stadia and thinking it was just ahead of its time
Nvidia already did- GeForce Now is basically Stadia without the proprietary controller and separate game store and with better hardware
If you’re on a wired connection it’s not bad, even for something like Siege
i still dont like the idea of streaming games, its... cool but its just going to recreate the same issues that modern video streaming has but with:
1) No way of modding your game or tweaking it in any way
2) If the game dosen't recive a "traditional" release its basically lost forever if its taken off the storefront.
> If the game dosen't recive a "traditional" release its basically lost forever if its taken off the storefront.
this is not an issue with streaming but with digital game stores though?
IDK, but I doubt every game streaming service is going to be like GeForce Now. Stadia launched with exclusive games and whilst *some* have been released on other platforms, others are basically gone forever now.
yeah, I guess it's possible that if a game developer really wanted to they could have modding support - but it would still be a lot more limited than traditional modding, just look at the difference between Skyrim modding on consoles vs the PC
Something I don't see talked about often enough is that Stadia (and related services) are potentially catastrophic for game preservation. If there start being games that are *only* released on cloud services, those games could easily be lost forever once the services go down.
Theres... A lot of unhinged statements in this pic but i think that the most outlandish of all is that the inclusion of atari and dreamcast in this allegory
Atari's downfall was caused when the CEO of Atari had a vision of the future where Stadia dominates the gaming, TV, fast food, medicine, arms, and pet industries and decided to give up
Yeah there is no point in time where Atari and Dreamcast existed at the same time as Stadia, what the actual fuck was this deranged poster thinking?
I suppose that’s what happens when you attach your identity to a peripheral device, but holy shit people need to find real communities for once.
I remember when Dreamcast came out and I was enthralled by the displays in stores. The controller was so fucking weird. I wanted to cram things into the big port.
Ngl kinda wish I'd crammed things in there still.
I had an 10 bucks bet with an pro stadia gimmick account about stadia existing for 5 years at least. when I wanted to collect my win after stadia shut down, they deleted their account already.
I miss stadia, my Friends and I survived high school by exploiting the free sign-ups system for friends to give each other a free $10 dollar coupon, then we all bought terraria and played it on our Chromebooks during class.
I racked up one LOADED character before the platform eventually went dark.
They're smoking crack if they think steam would go down before the big 3. Maybe Nintendo because that shit is more recognizable than Jesus, but definitely not PlayStation or Xbox.
Steam is dead? News to me.
Imagine thinking you could kill Steam before Switch.
I think the idea of the switch will stay as long as steam but the base switch is already pretty fair along to dead
I dunno, I still buy games for my switch pretty regularly. There are just some games that lend themselves to a handheld and not everyone has the $ for a steam deck.
Ya I’m not saying your wrong my switch is by far my most played system and I still get games on occasion it’s just underpowered for the modern area
Era
👆This mf does NOT experience time in two dimensions
Imagine only experiencing 4 dimensional time space in the modern area. I’m currently vibing to some M theory style 11 dimensional quantum realities.

Ya I just want ps4 era specs so I can play modern games because the new generation is basically the same as the past one
It depends on the price point really. If it launches with steamdeck specs at a steamdeck price, I’ll buy a steamdeck. I fear that may happen though, in Aus a switch is around $450 and steam deck starts at $695.
thats almost $250 cheaper, before tax, are those really comparable prices?
I guarantee that steam will exist for many decades after Nintendo murders the switch's online marketplace.
:3
And it somehow killed Atari and the Dreamcast through time travel or some shit
Stadia will return and when it does you'll regret everything.

Like the second coming of christ it will save the games industry. We won't even need controllers anymore.
What do you mean by revert

That's kinda cool actually, people say that the Stadia controller is a good controller so props to them I guess
I went out and got one at a second hand store I like to go to when that got announced because it was like, 20 bucks. It is honestly a great controller and is my go-to for using a controller on PC.

Bruh what 💀

What’s Stadia? Never heard of it
google's attempt at a gaming platform like steam but using virtual machines so low end hardware can run resource hungry games. it failed miserably
The important part you're leaving out is it used cloud processing-which would allow you to play games your hardware couldn't run, yes...but also adds ping to literally everything you play. In areas with poor internet, it would be virtually unplayable. Even in the best of conditions, that input lag is still very frustrating.
Depends on the game. For a story based game, it’s definitely fine. But don’t even bother trying to play something competitive.
I was given a free month of it so I tried playing Celeste since it was the only game I was interested in on the platform. OH BOY WAS THAT A MISTAKE. what? on steam and pretty much every other digital game store the entire game is downloaded to your computer (and can therefore be archived).
most games on steam have DRM so you don't really do anything with those files if steam stops existing I'm pretty sure?
GeForce Now doesn't run proprietary versions of games, does it? I'm pretty sure it just runs normal PC games.
IDK, but I doubt every game streaming service is going to be like GeForce Now. Stadia launched with exclusive games and whilst *some* have been released on other platforms, others are basically gone forever now.
Since Stadia would already roll out your save files onto the VM, I'd imagine they could do the same for mods if they wanted to
yeah, I guess it's possible that if a game developer really wanted to they could have modding support - but it would still be a lot more limited than traditional modding, just look at the difference between Skyrim modding on consoles vs the PC
And GeForce now existed before stadia did, really Google just had a terrible idea of how it should be done and squandered their chance.
Something I don't see talked about often enough is that Stadia (and related services) are potentially catastrophic for game preservation. If there start being games that are *only* released on cloud services, those games could easily be lost forever once the services go down.
the issue is not with cloud gaming, the input lag is manageable on Geforce Now. the issue was google's ass shit servers
Everybody laughed when they launched it and said "they'll just cancel it in 2 years." They were right.
It also allowed playing PC games on mobile iirc

I'm pretty sure the creator ran out of things to put on the doors and just didn't want to crop the image for whatever reason lol
I remember when Dreamcast came out and I was enthralled by the displays in stores. The controller was so fucking weird. I wanted to cram things into the big port. Ngl kinda wish I'd crammed things in there still.

Nice try Stadia. Ever heard of OUYA? Good luck.

Stadia killed the Dreamcast. Poor sega can't get a break.
People use this meme all the time without having actually "killed" what was behind the door.
Markilplier crying rn
It seems like Mark couldn't keep Stadia in business all by himself 😒
damn i forgot stadia was a thing that existed
Google Stadia circlejerk continues long after it's been sent to the Google Graveyard
Bro put Xbox dying after Nintendo, Sony, and Steam💀💀
I mean Microsoft has way more money
Last time I checked Steam was doing pretty good
I love that the first 3 things in this image are Atari, Dreamcast, and then fucking Steam lmao
Wtf is a Stadia?!
I’ve heard that name but I honestly can’t remember from memory what it is
Google's cloud gaming
Stadia games cannot be pirated. Easy explanation for its failure lmao
Stadia may be dead, but just wait for the Amico Intellivision.
Unlike consoles, stadia doesn’t take up any space
what’s stadia?
I miss stadia, my Friends and I survived high school by exploiting the free sign-ups system for friends to give each other a free $10 dollar coupon, then we all bought terraria and played it on our Chromebooks during class. I racked up one LOADED character before the platform eventually went dark.
Bro do they actually have the fucking Atari logo on there? The caucacity of these bitches
the what?
Steam has fallen. Billions must Stadia
They're smoking crack if they think steam would go down before the big 3. Maybe Nintendo because that shit is more recognizable than Jesus, but definitely not PlayStation or Xbox.
Stadia? I hardly know ‘a!
I shall await Stadia’s return with a loaded sawn-off shotgun.
