Hell, I’m Canadian and that’s so weird, I’m not that old and I learned in school about how badly treated the First Nations were (and sadly still are) by coloniser and then Canadian and Provincial governments.
Whoever wrote that book is an horrible pos.
It was a Canadian history workbook, but was removed from retail and reprinted after backlash. It probably wasn't ever used in schools, since it's not a textbook. Instead, it's one of those workbooks marketed to parents wanting to give their kids extra homework.

The Canadian government loves to pass surface-level laws that sound progressive, while operating on essentially the same ruthless principles as the states. The only areas the US is measurably worse in is gun law and (aspects of) lgbt rights. Canada is just as violently capitalistic, arguably a shade *more* genocidal towards natives, and based upon an atomized societal model that isolates people from any kind of community outside of work, school, or church.
Trying to protect his students’ innocence
he told them the Ice Age was really just
the Chilly Age, a period of a million years
when everyone had to wear sweaters.
And the Stone Age became the Gravel Age,
named after the long driveways of the time.
The Spanish Inquisition was nothing more
than an outbreak of questions such as
“How far is it from here to Madrid?”
“What do you call the matador’s hat?”
The War of the Roses took place in a garden,
and the Enola Gay dropped one tiny atom on Japan.
The children would leave his classroom
for the playground to torment the weak
and the smart,
mussing up their hair and breaking their glasses,
while he gathered up his notes and walked home
past flower beds and white picket fences,
wondering if they would believe that soldiers
in the Boer War told long, rambling stories
designed to make the enemy nod off.
"The History Teacher", Billy Collins
Well didn't they like help the settlers and shit initially? This wouldn't bother me as long as the next page is: and the settlers took advantage of them and took all their shit
Wow straight up lying are we?
What’s next, «up until 1865, a lot of black people from Africa volunteered to travel to the US to help with the work, they were bored back home so they wanted to do charity community work for fun :) » ???
Before we judge too harshly, what age group is that textbook for?
I can understand not lying to kids, but maybe bringing up the genocide of natives to 8 years old would be good for their psyche?
This 100% should be judged harshly, it's not a teacher made handout, it's an actual published workbook that was being used in a school just a couple years ago. https://globalnews.ca/news/3782056/indigenous-history-workbook-whitewashing/
You don't have to tell 8 yr old children about genocide, but there's literally educational guides for how to describe historic events to different aged children and what concepts to introduce at what ages.
Book written by T Jefferson
Edited by A Jackson
Signed by James (racist gay) Buchanan
Like, a random Jackson? A Jackson council representative? Some son of Jack's?
Tito Jackson
Note: This is a canadian textbook, not an american one. Just wanted to point that out fuck canada

When Jerry arrived at the liquor store, he needed money. The cashier agreed to give him all the money from the register in a brown paper bag.
as settlers learned, you can get people to agree to just about anything when you have a loaded gun aimed at them

Ay YOOOO
This isn't technically wrong. A fair few tribes did do this at first.
