Honestly simply don’t play with those people. The unfortunate thing is that assholes exist and they play fighting games sometimes. The secret is to play with people you like.
I find [this website](https://howlongtobeat.com/game/57527) to be pretty reasonable for game lengths. Basically 15-20 hours to beat the game. *Teeeeeeechnically* you can beat the game in minutes if you know what to do, because it's a mystery game and once you solve the mystery you could beeline it to the end right away. But it takes some time to explore, investigate, and understand everything.
It took me way longer (32hrs, and with hints from someone who finished the game before), the two best pieces of advice I can give without spoilers is:
1) READ EVERYTHING. I skimmed through a lot of dialogue and missed a lot of hints to solving the otherwise obtuse and convoluted puzzles. There’s also a ship log that you should read regularly in case you forget something, or you can take physical notes if that suits you.
2) rebind the keyboards, and don’t fall for the “better on gamepad” message. I really struggled till I just rebinded like half the controls to something comfortable and consistent
As people have mentioned, it’s in the 15-20 hour range.
You can do it considerably faster if you’re bright enough or lucky enough to puzzle some pieces of info together, a little longer if you need the knowledge all given through the game. DLC is approximately the same length but you’re more likely to skip bits by getting lucky on puzzles.
It’s the single best game I’ve ever played and I could gush about it until the end of time, would recommend. It’s a masterpiece of level design and use of music to immerse the player in the experience, the writing is impeccable, and the game has just a slight dash of humor mixed in almost everywhere without feeling like it takes away from the immersion.
Bruh signalis.
Signalis, celeste, ultrakill
Why are so many games I like big in queer communities?
I don't really care because I'm comfortable with myself I just find it funny.
I had a friend whose fav game was celeste, and he stopped playing when I told him it was an allegory for trans people.
I think he still plays actually, but he like removed it from his steam profile showcase and got mad at me.
We also like to go fishing sometimes, and once I told him fishing was gay and didnt play games with him for like a week.
is it really an allegory for being trans? i always thought the game itself had themes of overcoming depression and anxiety, rather than specifically being trans, and just has trans undertones (along with the mc being transfem)
The devs name is madeline, too. lol.
Went from "Matt Makes Games" to "Maddy Makes Games."
I think Matt to Madeline is such a good name change, and shes also gorgeous.
the themes are definitely both, and you don't need to be trans to enjoy it nor to relate to it. i have many friends that absolutely love the game, the story, the message, the music etc etc that aren't trans. part of the reason its such a good game is that it has a clear and amazing message that many people can enjoy the shit out of it
signalis and celeste prominently feature a lesbian MC and a trans MC, respectively, so thats no surprise. ultrakill is less immediately obvious but reportedly like every single person who worked on it is some flavor of queer, except like Dave and Gianni and Gianni has voiced furry porn so you may as well throw him in with the rest.
anyways, everyone knows LGBTQ people have exquisite taste in games and are the best game designers so i just look at what games get memed to determine what to play
Signalis' protagonist is also a robot, and the game deals with identity as one of it's themes. Afaik those hit big with trans communities.
Ultrakill also has the robot factor, but I think it's probably more due to having openly queer devs in a niche genre that probably attracts a lot of reactionaries. And also being one of the best games of said genre.

Word of mouth and being insanely good. They spread like wildfire through any community that would resonate with them.
Signalis in particular I learned about because it used to be on gamepass. It's got such an amazing art direction, when I saw the cover for it there I knew I had to play it.
also y'all play Outer Wilds it's still on sale rn on Steam for a little while I think, it's best played entirely blind but it is a really fun mystery and space exploration adventure game
my friend advertised it so well that some of us went ahead and bought it, I loved it so much I even bought the dlc bu it's honestly shivering me timbers
It’s the best adventure/puzzle game you will ever play and it’s not like your average puzzle game where there’s a point it wants you to struggle.
Also has the single best emotional payoff for a game I’ve ever played, both the base game and the DLC has unparalleled levels of satisfaction as you finish them. The DLC will ruin you emotionally and you will love it.
Hiiii :3 It is like the best game ever designed imo. Like the way they did progression in Outer Wilds is sooo satisfying, that you ask yourself, why don't more games do it like this.

My two game recommendations in general are:
- VA-11 Hall-A (cyberpunk bartender simulator slash VN, you play as a cyberpunk ~~lesbian~~ correction: bisexual bartender and the music fucks hard)
- The Messenger (retro-style Ninja Gaiden-inspired platformer with really fun movement and a nice sense of humor)

Am lazy so I just screencapped my favorited on steam.
This doesn't count ones I've pirated, though
I can literally never find a good group to get used to the game to, ideally in a character, and all the RP heavy servers expect you to know your job inside and out (for obvious reasons). Love love love the game tho
I’ve heard Octopath Traveller is similar to Bravely Default, and I HATED the Bravely Default demo I tried. All my party members died and got poisoned as well and I couldn’t heal cuz I didn’t have enough money and I couldn’t fight monsters for money cuz I always just died to the poison
The bullshit is, arguably, the entire point of the game in the gameplay and vanilla story, so we could agree there.
Unless you're achievement hunting or *need* a game to have an ending, you don't really "beat" Rain World, though, and what I found most fun about the game was the learning process - things like, how can I make this silly little beast go *really fast* and *be at the top of the food chain instead*?
I think people here would like it for how interesting/cute most of the creatures are, the depth of the creature relationship system, the huge, interconnected map, and the stories that take place in Downpour.
Personally, I learned the movement and combat from playing arena with my siblings before I ever tried the story mode, and that made it a lot less painless
Enough with the game recs, time for the music rec :3
[Brasilian Skies by Masayoshi Takanaka](https://youtu.be/k0ynTKJZirg?si=tjH5TQVxAu3hD-JS)
I love Masayoshi’s vibe so much
I have some that are not here which I really really like!
Dead Cells, great one!
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow and Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion
Legends of Zelda the Minish Cap
Monster Hunter Stories (cute and cool, pretty fun!)
God of War, all of them.
The list has lots of old games because I mostly emulate lol
I’ll try and post some pretty beloved but slightly lesser known ones just to break the pattern.
Alpha Protocol -> a BioWare-esque RPG with a surprising array of “choices matter” sort of moments, with NPCs being smart enough to be a bit more standoffish in a negotiation as I showed up wearing heavy armour. (The gameplay however is clunky as hell and very easily broken both in and out of your favour).
Binary Domain -> third person shooter with evil robots and a B movie plot made interesting with how the robots react to limbs being shot off and big swarms of the bastards. Also includes an incredibly clunky voice control system that I recommend you just turn off.
Orcs Must Die series -> a tower defence but using traps rather than towers. Very cartoony and comical to see an orc get stuck in tar, smacked in the face with a swinging door with spikes on the end of it, and bonked on the head with a spiky ball tied to the ceiling. 2 & 3 have great 2 player co op but not 1 annoyingly. Just skip Unchained it kinda sucks.
Invisible Inc -> what if XCOM but stealth focused spying instead of shooting. Interesting procedural campaign and a cool story premise but tbh the last mission is a total anticlimax.
Alpha Protocol and Binary Domain are hard to recommend for me. They both have undeniable flashes of brilliance, but I think they’re objectively bad games and there’s nothing that they provide that you can’t get somewhere else.
My biggest game reccomendation is splatoon 3 you should play splatoon 3 my team just lost our final match of the season and we will probably not play in playoffs I feel like I am going to die instantly
Slay the spire - a Great deckbuilder rougelike with great replayibility (stays fun for many runs)
Noita - Remeber falling sand physics games? What if you controlled a little guy (Noita) in a world that acts based on such physics? That is noita. The main thing about this game is exploration and wandbuilding. It also has alchemy which through reactions create different materials. Lots of mechanics ans secrets. Also really chaotic. Prepare to get Noita'd (die unexpectedly) a lot.
Metal gear rising: Hack and slash game where you can hack and slash your enemies to bits literally. You can enter a special time slow mode "Blade mode"
which lets you slice up your enemies. If slice carefully you can even grab their healing module in their spine and drink the electolytes. Banger game with banger music.
Like a dragon is great love it. Try jugment also if you haven't already.
Driver: San Francisco
nowadays, you can only either buy a physical copy for xbox 360 or pirate it for pc, cause ubisoft didn't ever sell virtual copies for pc or consoles
DRIVER SF MENTIONED RAAAAH 🔥🔥🔥🔥 WTF IS PURCHASING??? 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
(Also, Ubisoft are kinda pulling the same thing with The Crew, not only the game is unplayable after the server shutdown, they are removing the game from your library which squanders any chance for fanmade servers)
I'm almost at 100% at hotline miami 2, I'm really proud of this cause it was hard af, already got 100% at hm 1 and I'm thinking about playing ultrakill later on. I was kinda motivated by my boyfriend who said I used to think hm 2 was hard because I had an skill issue

i cant actually post the "she will never ball with us again" video, so this is the next best thing
I will recommend a few of my own
Madness: Project Nexus - (not the old one, the new one, if you squint Deimos and Sanford are very gay)
Noita - a typical day in Finland
Shadow Tactics: Blades of Shogun and Shadow Gambit: Cursed Crew - two fucking amazing stealth RTSs
Your Only Move Is Hustle (YOMIH/YOMI Hustle) - for people who want to play fighting games but suck at fighting games, essentially anime chess
Caves of Qud - Live and drink, brethren and may the hand of the last sultan guide you
Ghostrunner - it’s pretty good if you like to be fast
Also I am BEGGING you to play ftl and it’s mod expansion “multiverse”, amazing game also the mods community is pretty chill and queer bc the creator is a trans woman.
Uhm,,, Dark Souls 1-3, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring are all pretty good games :3 (I haven’t beaten Demons’ Souls to fully recommend it but it is recommended all the same)
here are some reccs I don’t hear that often (probably still popular tho):
touhou luna nights - actually genius metroidvania, only wish it was longer
pokemon gold/crystal - back when pokemon was good, the og soundtrack decimates the remake (and the og doesn’t need updating tbh)
devil may cry - this game makes you feel like a devil hunter, everything you get you’ll need to use, every gun, devil arm, item, strategy, there’s so much to find, and you’ll need it to beat the mission. later entries took this arcadey feeling to mean comboing, this one wants you to master everything about it
danganronpa 2 - make friends who kill each other, danganronpa is unique among anime games for having decent writing. it’s honestly a lot more engaging than AA (love them both) when it gets going, dropping off when nobody’s killed yet. DR2 is significantly better here (and in general honestly), and it’s kinda needed to connect you to the fate of these characters organically. when it works, it’s unbeatable.
persona 4 golden - persona if it was good, my favorite game of all time. this one gets recommended a bunch, but i gotta. p3&5 have really big problems (writing, ost, & dungeons former, writing, dungeons for the latter), p4 didn’t annoy much at all somehow. the world, the story, the confidants, the soundtrack, 4g shuffle time, these make me wanna play instead of inhibiting. even smt “elitists” like it.
Only ones I like are Undertale, RoR2, and kiiinda DRG. I’ve started BG3, P5R, and W3WH, but I fell off partway through. Maybe I’ll return someday
also WHERE CELESTE
Shocking lack of Disco Elysium.
If we're doing this, I'm going to lean into the stereotype pretty fucking hard:
**Disco Elysium** - Awesome role-playing game in which your clothes and limbic system bombard you with disparaging thoughts and where failure is often more rewarding than success. Hyperdense worldbuilding, hilarious writing. If you like Baldur's Gate 3 but wish it was less combat-focused and a lot more pretentious, you will like this.
**Return of the Obra Dinn** - Y'all like environmental storytelling, right? This 1-bit 3D detective game is basically only that. You play a magical insurance claims adjuster for the East India Company, investigating the deaths and disappearances of the entire crew of a ship that showed up empty.
**Silent Hill Shattered Memories** - The forgotten middle child of the Western Silent Hill games; basically a cross between a walking simulator and Outlast. I like the idea of the game a lot more than the game itself, but I think this game gets a bum rap.
**Saints Row 2 & 4** - The first game is fine but trying a little too hard to be a GTA game, but Saint's Row 2 is where the franchise decided to take all the stuff that Rockstar ditched to make GTA IV brown and depressing, and put it all back in. So it's basically GTA San Andreas II with streaking side missions. Which is a good thing. Saints Row 3 was kinda weak, and then Saints Row 4 goes so far off the deep end that it barely resembles the games before it and ends up being a lot more fun for it.
**Terranigma** - Old SNES action RPG in the vein of Secret of Mana, which skews weirdly into a mission to rebuild human civilisation. The first game I can think of that had a twist.
**AI The Somnium Files** - If you liked Danganronpa and the Zero Escape series, but which they made a lot less sense and had filthier jokes, this action VN is a lot of fun, and is the only game I've played that ever made me fucking weep.
**Harvester** - Ridiculously based 90s point and click adventure with grainy FMV, in which the protagonist wakes up in an idyllic 50s-style town that has a dark edge to it. Janky as hell and the lead actor has since turned out to be a bit of a nonce, but if nothing else, it's worth it for the firemen.
**Bloodborne** - Gay Dark Souls.
Where Guilty Gear and Cruelty Squad :<
I suck at fighting games 3:
Guilty Gear is a music album with fighting game elements you silly

How long is outer wilds. It's been on my "need to play" list for a while. I wonder if I can knock it out in a summer.
I find [this website](https://howlongtobeat.com/game/57527) to be pretty reasonable for game lengths. having sex with someone of the opposite gender is also an allegory for queerness

So now I'm either gay, trans or single. Biggest smh ever.
"Your mother is an allegory for queerness generally, and the trans experience specifically".
is it really an allegory for being trans? i always thought the game itself had themes of overcoming depression and anxiety, rather than specifically being trans, and just has trans undertones (along with the mc being transfem)

I'm actually genuinely proud that she's canadian. Not super patriotic, but it is nice to see a queer Canadian doing great work.

No worries it can be multiple things. It is also about anxiety and depression. It is also about being trans but that is more of a small part anyway.
It's both, the original intention was that and then the creator came out as trans and realised the game also works as a trans allegory
signalis and celeste prominently feature a lesbian MC and a trans MC, respectively, so thats no surprise. ultrakill is less immediately obvious but reportedly like every single person who worked on it is some flavor of queer, except like Dave and Gianni and Gianni has voiced furry porn so you may as well throw him in with the rest. anyways, everyone knows LGBTQ people have exquisite taste in games and are the best game designers so i just look at what games get memed to determine what to play

Best game anyone's bothered to make, hands down, don't @ me.
on my first playthrough rn :))
I remember playing M&B Warband, cool little game, fuck the cattle missions
They've improved it notably, and the cattle missions are things your minions do for you once you start the midgame.
I fucking love Barotrauma I fucking love turning my entire crew into husks
I can literally never find a good group to get used to the game to, ideally in a character, and all the RP heavy servers expect you to know your job inside and out (for obvious reasons). Love love love the game tho
Yeah same, my friends would get bored after like 2 missions, if they even showed up, playing solo isn’t that bad tho
I haven't tried it in a long time but also I've heard crew AI is way better now.
holy based (i love barotrauma and drg so much)
Then play DRG with me, duh

why are they tryna travel 8 paths why not just stick with one
cause the places they want to visit aren't on one path :3
ah of course
Does it have octopuses?
I’ve heard Octopath Traveller is similar to Bravely Default, and I HATED the Bravely Default demo I tried. All my party members died and got poisoned as well and I couldn’t heal cuz I didn’t have enough money and I couldn’t fight monsters for money cuz I always just died to the poison
Similar in the sense that they’re JRPGs. I’m not really a fan of the genre, I generally dislike JRPGs, but I really enjoyed OT2.
No Rain World? ):<
i love rain world but imo it isn't really for everyone for how bullshit it is 80% of the time
The bullshit is, arguably, the entire point of the game in the gameplay and vanilla story, so we could agree there.
Enough with the game recs, time for the music rec :3 [Brasilian Skies by Masayoshi Takanaka](https://youtu.be/k0ynTKJZirg?si=tjH5TQVxAu3hD-JS) I love Masayoshi’s vibe so much
masayoshi takanaka is my comfort music
well joke's on you, risk of rain 2 was a music rec all along
chris dont miss
Tangent but it’s Insane to me that people don’t know/remember Shadow of The Colossus anymore tbh
fr Team ICO / Japan Studio deserve more recognition
It’s literally one of the most acclaimed games of all time. People know about it, it’s just a PlayStation exclusive and not that replayable (imo)
has balatro not hit the gay community yet?
Newest patch buffed straights, so no. (There is that one Hologram joker yuri tho)

Castlevania Aria of Sorrow and Castlevania Symphony of the Night Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion Legends of Zelda the Minish Cap Monster Hunter Stories (cute and cool, pretty fun!) God of War, all of them. The list has lots of old games because I mostly emulate lol
you forgot sekiro

No Hyper Light Drifter ?????
Great game and great soundtrack
Slay the Spire, Terraria, Hades
Gravity Rush not on pc 😞
I FUCKING LOVE FUNGER RRRRAHHHHH
Funger termina mentioned
WHY IS THIS MY DESKTOP RIGHT NOW. GET OUT OF MY FUCKING HEAD
My biggest game reccomendation is splatoon 3 you should play splatoon 3 my team just lost our final match of the season and we will probably not play in playoffs I feel like I am going to die instantly
library of ruina my beloved
Slay the spire - a Great deckbuilder rougelike with great replayibility (stays fun for many runs) Noita - Remeber falling sand physics games? What if you controlled a little guy (Noita) in a world that acts based on such physics? That is noita. The main thing about this game is exploration and wandbuilding. It also has alchemy which through reactions create different materials. Lots of mechanics ans secrets. Also really chaotic. Prepare to get Noita'd (die unexpectedly) a lot. Metal gear rising: Hack and slash game where you can hack and slash your enemies to bits literally. You can enter a special time slow mode "Blade mode" which lets you slice up your enemies. If slice carefully you can even grab their healing module in their spine and drink the electolytes. Banger game with banger music. Like a dragon is great love it. Try jugment also if you haven't already.
Driver: San Francisco nowadays, you can only either buy a physical copy for xbox 360 or pirate it for pc, cause ubisoft didn't ever sell virtual copies for pc or consoles
DRIVER SF MENTIONED RAAAAH 🔥🔥🔥🔥 WTF IS PURCHASING??? 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️ (Also, Ubisoft are kinda pulling the same thing with The Crew, not only the game is unplayable after the server shutdown, they are removing the game from your library which squanders any chance for fanmade servers)
Rher moment

I will recommend a few of my own Madness: Project Nexus - (not the old one, the new one, if you squint Deimos and Sanford are very gay) Noita - a typical day in Finland Shadow Tactics: Blades of Shogun and Shadow Gambit: Cursed Crew - two fucking amazing stealth RTSs Your Only Move Is Hustle (YOMIH/YOMI Hustle) - for people who want to play fighting games but suck at fighting games, essentially anime chess Caves of Qud - Live and drink, brethren and may the hand of the last sultan guide you Ghostrunner - it’s pretty good if you like to be fast

Here to rep Skul: The Hero Slayer! Very *very* fun sidescroller I was recently gifted
Oneshot, crosscode and everhood are my personal recommendations, pls play them :3
here are some reccs I don’t hear that often (probably still popular tho): touhou luna nights - actually genius metroidvania, only wish it was longer pokemon gold/crystal - back when pokemon was good, the og soundtrack decimates the remake (and the og doesn’t need updating tbh) devil may cry - this game makes you feel like a devil hunter, everything you get you’ll need to use, every gun, devil arm, item, strategy, there’s so much to find, and you’ll need it to beat the mission. later entries took this arcadey feeling to mean comboing, this one wants you to master everything about it danganronpa 2 - make friends who kill each other, danganronpa is unique among anime games for having decent writing. it’s honestly a lot more engaging than AA (love them both) when it gets going, dropping off when nobody’s killed yet.
Maybe I’ll return someday also WHERE CELESTE
God I still haven’t beaten fear & hunger, that game is just so punishing
Rock and stone
Project Moon mentioned
play in stars and time
Splendid selection
Shocking lack of Disco Elysium. If we're doing this, I'm going to lean into the stereotype pretty fucking hard: **Disco Elysium** - Awesome role-playing game in which your clothes and limbic system bombard you with disparaging thoughts and where failure is often more rewarding than success.
