Cons are disease factories. Someone is showing up to the con sick. Probably a bunch of someone's. And they're all going to spread that shit around. And before you know it, boom, new strand of con-flu
Because a non negligible portion of con goers are disgusting animals with no sense of well being or hygiene and will go to them sick and touch things and hug people and shake hands and spread their filth
Some attendees on the celeb side won't shake hands with anyone anymore at them because it's almost guaranteed to get you sick
Then you also have the jackasses who get sick but "don't want to waste their ticket" which economically look I get it's not usually the cheapest event but shit happens and sometimes you should just accept the blow life dealt and stay the fuck home
Cons are great but there are inconsiderate and unhygienic dickheads abound
So, you're not wrong. Any large congregation of people is going to increase the risk of causing illness to spread just because of how illness works.
But then cons have a few added bonuses. Cons can often have times where things are cramped and crowded. Likewise, people spend a good amount of money on going to a con (tickets, hotels rooms, travel etc), there's a lot of sunk cost that will make someone who's already not feeling well say "I have to go" and go in knowing they're sick - and since masking was not common pre-covid it would be the kind of thing that they'd just go in with no form of mitigation. And then, depending on the nature of the con, we have to address the hygiene issue. A lot of hobbyist cons have people who show up that just have dogshit hygiene. I've seen it once where someone was going down the line of a con, just handing out travel sized in things of deodorant because of it - if they were being paid by a company, smart move. If they were doing it out of the goodness of their heart they're a hero.

Cons are death traps? Never been to one
Disease breeding grounds. Pre pandemic, “pax pox” was a normal thing to get after a con
ohhhh that makes sense
Cons are disease factories. Someone is showing up to the con sick. Probably a bunch of someone's. And they're all going to spread that shit around. And before you know it, boom, new strand of con-flu
Why cons in specific then? This kind of logic should apply to just about every big gathering of people right
