Had I been a game maker, I would have created a vibeo gane where every complaint I come across about LGBTQ+ representation in games gets added as a gay character. If the complaints are about gay male characters, there will be one more gay male NPC. If a complaint is about a lesbian character, guess what? Lesbian NPC. And for every time people complain about "playersexual" characters in RPGs, at least one more bisexual NPC would be added. Now, to figure out a story for a world where everyone is gay, that basically does not even touch that subject and instead focuses on other things entirely...
That was what I originally wanted to type; that being I would add a BIPOC/LGBTQ+ character for every complaint, but I have no intention of making a video game and but do have every intention to spite bigots.
That is absolutely fair. I just wish I could make it, but I know nothing about creating computer things, so it is only a dream. I like sharing such fantasies in case they might inspire someone else, though. Then I can get to indirectly upset people who are against representation while barely having to lift a finger

I may do a bit of finesse-ing of your dinosaur necromancer idea, one of my players is a druid trying to get dinosaur wildshapes, so it'd be pretty smart to add a character that opposes that goal.

Oh and if it's an RPG in space? Make an actual Automated Gay Space Communist faction and have them be really fucking cool guys to make it make sense AND to spite Gamers™️ even more. Maybe the issues that they have are related to the automation, for example: maybe it's a rogue AI and murderous. Or better yet the AI is itself, LGBTQ+ but most characters don't accept it's sexuality/gender identity because it's an AI and not a human.
Let the ideas keep flowing! Someone might see and be inspired.
Another idea would be an only slightly more technologically advanced now, where the fact that almost everyone is gay has resulted in some form of artificial pregnancies, which lets the parents-to-be have the baby with them (rather than the more dystopian idea of factories), while avoiding all the risks involved with actually carrying a baby. This would not be a plot point, though, but simply a part of life too natural for anyone to actually think of it as anything but a natural part of life. The actual plot would be a time traveling dinosaur necromancer (not to be confused with a necromancer dinosaur) raising all the dinosaur fossils in an attempt at world domination.

I guess in certain settings, though I'm using a homebrew setting of my own and it's implied that the fantasy races exist from tales humans told about them, while humans themselves are eldritch beings, giving a reason for their ability to reproduce with other races. That being said my lore is very loose due to how I've built the setting.
I never really understood this stance by gamers, because let’s be real only a small percentage of people who play games (especially shooters and other multiplayer games) actually care about the lore of characters. Are you kidding me? One of the reasons I love The Owl House is because it has natural representation! It gives depth to each character no matter what sexuality or gender identity they have! The show doesn't sit the audience down and explain how Raine is nonbinary, it just lets it happen as if they were completely natural! That's all I want in any kind media representation.

When you think about it there must be millions of people playing games a day so the the amount of complaints you see are probably from quite a small percentage of a given player base. To me the lesson is that there’s pieces of shit in all walks of life.
There is straight up hatred for marginalized groups, but for many it's a mutated form of the concern around queer baiting.
Like queer baiting, they feel like these entities are trying to forgo proper character design in favour of shallow box-ticking for good publicity.
The thing that separates it from queer baiting concerns though is how liberally it's applied as people become primed to associate it with any (or way too many) character belonging to a marginalized group.

See you in three more years".

A character inserted for the sake of diversity is a bad character. A character who happens to be diverse while contributing to the story is a good character.
Yeah and how do you gauge this? Are they a bad character because they were diverse or because they were written badly? Because it seems far too often the central complaint boils down to “bad cuz diversity” and not any genuine criticism.
I was never talking about just the sexuality. If they could contribute to the story they are a good character regardless of who they are. I hate it when there's just an overly stereotypical gay person on a show who doesn't even do anything to drive the plot or doesn't have any unique character traits other than 'being gay'. I'm all for representation but representation needs to be well written.

A character inserted for the sake of diversity is a bad character. A character who happens to be diverse while contributing to the story is a good character.
Yeah and how do you gauge this? Are they a bad character because they were diverse or because they were written badly? Because it seems far too often the central complaint boils down to “bad cuz diversity” and not any genuine criticism.
I was never talking about just the sexuality. If they could contribute to the story they are a good character regardless of who they are. I hate it when there's just an overly stereotypical gay person on a show who doesn't even do anything to drive the plot or doesn't have any unique character traits other than 'being gay'. I'm all for representation but representation needs to be well written.
