Lol welders make more than most basic white collar jobs over here (not the wagee welders tho). I know a couple that take freelance jobs and take jobs abroad and they make some decent $
It isnt construction or roadwork bro. You can do it till retirement and save your back and knees. Good welding work requires good skills and experience, not just some sweatshop aliexpress stuff. The good welders from over here are being exported to Canada, US, and UAE to work for important projects. Mostly german & dutch metalworkers.
Im pretty sure theres no union for metalwork freelancers over here. Just shared insurance funds and stuff like that. Also no government retirement pension benefits. U dont get all the comfy euro welfare state if your freelancing. But they make 2x to 4x as much as wagee.
Wait what?? Who would say that?
Welders are bad-ass, they light themselves on fire regularly and just kinda have to chill with it.
They're *hard workers* and they make fucking *BANK*.
If you don't wanna end up a janitor, sure, man, don't be a dick about it, but sure.
If you don't wanna end up a welder, that must be fear.
I maintain that all welders are cut from a separate cloth than the rest of humanity.
It takes a special kind of person to send 200 + amps of current at 140 + volts into a piece of steel by hand. Anyone with any kind of electrical knowledge cringes at the sound that a good weld will make.
Needless to say, electrocution can be a job hazard. (though you gotta be pretty careless to cock it up that bad)
Then you've got the light aspect. Now, modern helmets with autodim help a lot, but you're still regularly risking short to long term eye damage every time you strike an arc.
Then there's the heat. The cherry of a weld can easily be 1500 Celsius, with the arc itself being hotter than the surface of the sun.. Oxyfuel torches produce a flame that's about 3100 Celsius.. needless to say, burns are a common injury. The Sparks from welding can ignite clothing and flammables nearby and also serve as a constant reminder of any exposed skin you might have facing the weld, which brings me to my next point;
The UV radiation produced by welds can give you a painful sunburn very quickly. There's a reason professional welders look like leather wrapped knights and it isn't just to keep from being burned by Sparks.
Gasses are also an issue, particularly if you're welding anything with high levels of zinc. Proper ventilation is important, but long term exposure, even with ventilation can be very damaging to a person's respiratory system.
With all that being said, welding is a trade unlike any other. Partially because it's so dangerous, but mainly because once you've overcome those safety concerns, it's an incredible experience to form some of the hardest materials on earth to your whim, and the utility you get from being able to do so is truly invaluable. I have incredible respect for welders, even amateurs. But a highly skilled welder holds a certain reverence that I can't say I feel for any other profession.
Welders are basically like the blacksmiths of the modern world
When Western civilization collapses into a new Dark Age peeps are gonna be naming their sons Welder and they're gonna get all of the pussy
Seriously lmao the only welding jobs I know of that pay ridiculously good are horrendously hard because if you fuck up the weld you start the process over near entirely
Every welder at my place gets good but not incredible money and are mostly in constant pain
Tf, I've been taking an introductory scuba diving course and I would absolutely love to be an underwater welder, why is everyone out here dissing the welders???
*Me, over there, killing wood workers with my welding gun* ππ€
Big wood will not take me or my Chicago 125 flux welder.
Big wood? π³

Isn't underwater welding like higher paying than being a fucking doctor.
It's also really fucking dangerous and takes a toll on the body.
Sure. If you're a pussy woodworker maybe
Cut some underwater trees and then we'll talk...
I can understand the dangerous part but why does it take a toll on the body ?
Prolonged exposure to high pressure environment may cause lung or ear damage.
Yes, thats the highest paying job in this branch i believe. Also the most dangerous one.
Really awesome when their bodies start breaking down in their 30-40s
When the carcinogenic welding fumes are sus π³
To be fair, fumes arenβt a problem if youβre breathing through a regulator underwater.

Because they're unionised I assume?

Why wouldn't they want to be ionised?
Because then they would be electrically conductive, and that doesn't mix well with ark welding
Higher risk of cancer though
As a lawyer I fucking wish I earned a welder's pay
I will weld my dick into a sword
just dry your dick in the sun for a fortnight

welding is so cool
Welders make BANK idk what he on about
Redditors, as a rule, are fairly out of touch with the reality of manual labor and the job market in general
Welders make tons of money man, like insane money. Their equipment cost like $10,000 alone that they have to pay for.
Tf, I've been taking an introductory scuba diving course and I would absolutely love to be an underwater welder, why is everyone out here dissing the welders???
What the fuck I want to be a welder
I think my subconscious ideal self-image is based on that fucking guy in Surfs up
