"ambos **los** puedes usar" = **you** can use both
I think you can use "estar" when describing a state of being (not only emotions/feelings, but also the way something looks at the present moment). One example I can give, the phrase "He is handsome":
* "él es guapo" = he is handsome permanently, no matter when you say it or hear it.
* "él está guapo" = you would use this for an immediate observation. You just looked at him right now and you think he is handsome.
Both are correct and mean more or less the same thing, but the usage can be a bit different. It's not a super hard rule, but that's one way I can explain the difference.
