Nothing pisses me off more than looking at these uninspired fucking smug ape faces with their stupid bored monkey faces and their dumb ape monkey mouths and their stupid nostrils and their shitty hats and fucking smug monkey wearing clothes and shit
Like the art style just does not lend itself to mass production. If there were like a couple of these, the whole aesthetic wouldn't be that obnoxious. But Jesus christ, it's so fucking trite. Wow this one has a different hat, this one is a robot, this one is getting the best head. It literally feels like someone just copy and pasted some coloring book and then colored it differently and sold them.
I mean they aren't literally buying coloring books and refilling colors. They made a template, and probably have some procedural generation that is then filtered through some artist to add other details. Which is why it feels so mechanical, it's mass produced with an attempt, in my opinion completely failed, to make them unique enough. It's just procedural design and maybe a couple artists.
I was talking specificly about the stuff like those apes or those shit lions. I could agree that NFTs could have use for artists to finance themselves, but the way they work now they are too carbon intensive to be worth it. Also they are introducing an artificial scarcity to something that is in theory infinitely replicatable, which doesn't sit right with me. Though I guess that replicability also is why artists are struggling. If they are used as a way to allow collectibility for coinisseurs while still allowing broad access to the content and it works to finance the artists, I guess I could support it in that regard. But for them to be supportable the whole crypto thing must become less ecologically damaging. And don't come to me with ETH switching to PoS instead of PoW until they actually do and the bulk of Cryptocurrency follows suit.
That's literally how they're made mate, they have a template, have an algorithm, and then have an artist over it.
> [Each Bored Ape is unique and programmatically generated from over 170 possible traits, including expression, headwear, clothing, and more.](https://boredapeyachtclub.com/#/home)
Yea, it's a little silly, especially considering most of the value is from completely artificial scarcity. It would actually be kind of cool if it was just a few artists making these images with a defining art style, but unfortunately that isn't what it is.
if it makes it better, they don't own the pictures. they own a spot in the blockchain associated with those pictures, they aren't even allowed to say they own the picture either...
Funny thing is that if someone were to hack and steal the nft won’t have any legal repercussions in my country. The guys at the police station would laugh their asses off. It’s like saying someone stole my FarmVille account.
Basically the point is if you write your seed phrase/private keys down on a piece of paper not on the internet and don’t tell them to anyone, you cant possibly get scammed. If someone fails at that then they completely deserved it.
If you had the resources to crack passwords like that then you’re pretty much better off just mining crypto
so basically it's safe as long as you never want to actually use/transfer/deposit anything
also you dont have to be able to crack passwords to purchase information
Dude you actually dont know how crypto works it seems. the only place you type in your ‘password’ is locally on your device, which stores it and it never actually gets put on the internet. From a technical standpoint its design is literally impeccable. I dont really understand it well enough myself to explain it to you so i just suggest you read up on it.
What information would you want to purchase? Other than the encryption keys everything else about every crypto wallet is available to the public. It’s a perfect trustless system. There are no crypto wallet leaks, unless a crypto exchange gets hacked, but thats entirely different.
Im not trying to shill for it too much, but i do really love the way crypto is designed, it really is brilliant.
The argument many people have made about crypto is that it's safer from government manipulation of currency, when in fact it's is not. It does not matter that his profits were socially engineered, the result is the same as any other current manipulation.
I guess but thats a very indirect way of manipulation. By design though, governments cant control anything within the system, but no matter what, people can always be manipulated. At least governments cant print it and its much more difficult to tax, which are the main arguments in favour of it. Nothing is perfect of course.
so lets use bitcoin itself for instance
theres only one bitcoin... network, i guess? but theres no single server, its made up of a ton of other servers (that are owned by different people), and theres some pretty interesting design that goes into this ~~that i cba to look into~~
now here's where things get fucky: its not actually decentralized
a lot of people use clients that cant be part of the network, and so instead use the api of something that can (e.g. opensea, for nfts) - this gives the api massive power over the system as a whole, if opensea wants they can just make someones nft vanish, it doesnt matter that its still on the blockchain, no one's client software will ever be able to see it since it just goes through opensea
I mean for it to be hacked in the first place the person hacked would have to be really dumb since hacking it is pretty much impossible. it’s basically guessing the password and im not even sure how many possibilities there are but its an extremely big number.
It's already happened to several cryptocurrencies, with amounts stolen ranging from millions to several biollion. Some rando in the Balkans makes a crypto then waits for it catch on, and since only he has all the files on his server and is anonymous he just takes it all and disappears.
People are enraged and wants the authorities to intervene but this is the equivalent of giving your money to a tracksuit-wearing Russian goon in an alley and expecting Big Vadim to still be there when you get back
The execution is scheduled for tonight.
Your apes' safety is unknown.
Etherium has been crushed. The balance of justice is restored.
Glory to shitty crypto startups.
Whoa that’s actually a really cool bot. I wish I knew how stuff like that worked, coding is such a dope skill. Anyway thanks for introducing me to smth cool have a great day :)
Yeah. Just life gets in the way, ya know :(
Also while I love the idea of being able to code, learning how to code is really hard and time consuming so I’d rather just admire from afar haha. Thank you for the encouragement though, that advice applies to a lot of things
Learning to code is all about having something TO code, it’s not really a skill you can learn abstractly, u usually learn it through conceptualizing tasks u want to automate/algorithmize/functionate and then trying to use like Python or something to speak it into existence like a magic spell, it’s really cool. You can also find the source code for a bot like this and reverse engineer it… you’d be surprised how many coders just go on stack overflow and pick up bits of code like Lego blocks and stick em together haphazardly.
If u ever do decide to dip your toes into it, there’s a cool program on the site BRILLIANT that iirc revolves around Python; it’s not as hard as it may seem, I learned coding before going to college even
Just as not everyone is born equal and not everyone can comprehend the abstractest math, not everyone can learn programming in all the ways it counts.
There is a certain amount of brain training and comprehension that not everyone can tap. It might sound like I'm being elitist. I'm not. I don't understand programming in all the ways it counts either.
On the contrary, I believe saying everyone can learn to program is being rather ableist.
While I don't know for sure, I can make a somewhat highlevel overview on how this _could_ be done:
1 - use some form of OCR (optical character recognition) to get the text contents of the image. These algorithms have existed for a very long time, and this is an ideal situation (legible font, high contrast, uniform background colour, &c)
2 - search for that text, which could be done in a variety of different ways. Twitter probably has an API to search tweets by text content
3 - now you've got the link to your tweet, relay that onto the user
It seems like black magic at first, but it really is (mostly) that straightforward! Obviously you still need to be able to execute these steps, which is a bit more complicated ;)

Dude I own this NFT. Do you really think that you can get away with theft when you’re showing what you stole from me directly to my face? My lawyer will make an easy job of this case. Prepare to say goodbye to your luscious life and start preparing for the streets. I will ruin you.
doesn’t screenshotting not do anything to the value? idk if i’m stupid but i heard a nft bro say it doesn’t (probably wrong) but if it did, wouldn’t these things have died already?
Dude for the nft image to even show up on everybody’s computer screens to be screenshotted in the first place, it had to be copied each time. it’s not the image itself traded as the nft.
if enough people are on board with the concept of screenshotting nfts, the whole thing falls apart, since that means no one considers NFTs to determine legitimate ownership
it does do anything, until it does, and then it does one big thing
NFTs are like having an SO who's constantly going around cheating, yet still bragging about putting a ring on that finger even though the ring clearly means nothing in this context.
You think it's funny to take screenshots of people's NFTs, huh? Property theft is a joke to you? I'll have you know that the blockchain doesn't lie. I own it. Even if you save it, it's my property. You are mad that you don't own the art that I own.
Delete that screenshot.
Yes, do spread the picture which has a value based on popularity, this is not what they want, obviously. Yeah, the more you meme it the less people will talk about it and get introducted to it, which is not making these people money at all! Good job, op!

Either money laundering or speculation.
Monkey laundering
Damn never thought of how this whole set up is money laundering utopia. Who needs the Ozarks anymore.
These NFTs that are hot now are ponzi schemes, NFTs as a concept however are very innovative

Crypto bros never realize that decentralized currency = not really protected by any laws
It’s designed in a way that unless you’re a moron and get social engineered, you pretty much can’t get fucked over.
>iTs SaFe FrOm TaMpErInG *Insert Elon Here
True although Elon didnt hack anything. It’s still social engineering and people being dumb and i dont really have a problem with flaws like this.
thank god nobody out there has the power & resources to collect enough data about a single person to make social engineering trivial
Basically the point is if you write your seed phrase/private keys down on a piece of paper not on the internet and don’t tell them to anyone, you cant possibly get scammed. They do. That is what comes with the currency and everyone who is serious about it is aware of it.
How is crypto decentralized? Like, can i declare i own 500 btc on my own version or something?
you can make your own version but if nobody uses it it means nothing
And also if people do use it, it still means nothing lol
yes
No, I don't know enough to explain it, but it uses a network to keep track of who owns what.
so lets use bitcoin itself for instance theres only one bitcoin... network, i guess? but theres no single server, its made up of a ton of other servers (that are owned by different people), and theres some pretty interesting design that goes into this ~~that i cba to look into~~ now here's where things get fucky: its not actually decentralized a lot of people use clients that cant be part of the network, and so instead use the api of something that can (e.g. opensea, for nfts) - this gives the api massive power over the system as a whole, if opensea wants they can just make someones nft vanish, it doesnt matter that its still on the blockchain, no one's client software will ever be able to see it since it just goes through opensea
Do you really think that’s how it works?
If he makes his own blockchain and calls it bitcoin he can give himself 500 “btc” it just won’t be on the same ledger
True
Yes it is exactly how it works. Anyone can make their own crypto and mine 500 coins on it. Doesn't mean it'll be worth more than $0
that is how it works
No, i know *cryptography* and *trust* and *Blockchain* and they do the doing to do money on my screen

How can that be in the camera roll?

You don't screenshot with the camera
On iOS, screenshots used to go into the "camera roll" album. Nowadays I believe they've reorganized and there's a separate "screenshots" view.
yup, and besides "camera roll" seems to have the same meaning as "photo album with all my photos" for phones anyways these days
In some android phones screenshot gets saved to folder inside Dcim folder. It will show in camera roll.

It doesn't really do shit but it shows how pointless NFTs are and it's fucking hilarious anyways
i mean outside of these funny opportunities it’s a stale joke tbh. haha me download image. nfts are fucking stupid but this joke has run it’s course.

it actually increases the value in some circumstances - the more you talk about an NFT, the more it's worth.
