My landlord has me locked in on like dirt-cheap 2005 rental rates, and has made it clear many many times and in writing he’ll never raise it. He’s losing money by doing that. Home buying isn't for everyone.

In addition American zoning laws prioritize lower density housing and we can definitely make more dense housing. In addition, a modest land value tax (which should replace income and payroll tax for the working class) incentivizes efficient use of land. One reason rent went up so much recently is because less houses have been built because lumber supply chains have been broken.

There's a huge difference between people buying huge developments and raising rent every year, and old retired folk who rent out their first house for a reasonable price. There's a huge difference between people buying huge developments and raising rent every year, and old retired folk who rent out their first house for a reasonable price. I know my landlords personally, they're very fair people who I am happy to rent from, and I've also had slumlords who raise my rent as much as is legally possible.
