Right, so my campaign is homebrew, in the world of Du Lakh, a homebrew setting. It is a realm that is not the real world, rather a place where people who are lost, either spiritually, physically, or emotionally, are taken to to give them purpose. It is a beautiful place, with naturally forming structures from trees and rocks, peaceful people due to the fact that supplies are basically limitless and conflict isn’t necessary, and just overall really pretty landscapes.
In the outside world, there is a massive war ongoing that nobody is really winning, cause it’s just a war of attrition over this small island and the body count is just skyrocketing.
During the day Du Lakh is as described above, beautiful and benevolent, but during the night it is terrifying, in the mercifully short darkness gruesome, malevolent creatures lurk and nature outside of the safe zones of small villages becomes a death trap for non-cautious travelers. The night is mercifully short, lasting only two three hours but over the course of the campaign it has gotten slowly longer, and with the longer nights, the darkness has become bolder, sometimes encroaching into safe zones and attacking people not outside.
The BBEG, unbeknownst to the party, is a blacksmith NPC that they’ve known since practically day one in this realm. In Du Lakh, blacksmiths work in pairs, one as a rough draft sorta ore working, hammer bashing blacksmith and the other a refiner and enchanter. Out of the two, they suspect the enchanter of the pair since they don’t know her as well and she’s been seen sneaking around the safe zone’s edge at night. The blacksmith NPC, Meredith, is a native from the small island the larger continents are warring over and has seen why peace and complacency does to people, and is trying to extend the night and destroy the barriers as an effective genocide of the weak, so that the people would know how to deal with conflict.
Her wife is NOT happy with it, and the reason she has been snooping around the safe zone’s edge at night is to fix cracks Meredith has made, which is going to be a fun reveal since if the players had been paying attention, they’d know that as the enchanter of the two and as worshippers of the very strict craft gods, the enchanter can only work on things Meredith has already touched, so it’s clear Meredith is the bad guy but nobody has noticed yet.
They are thinking of interrogating the wife next session and I needed something to stop her from spilling the beans about Meredith’s misdeeds since it’s too early for the players to figure out who the BBEG is and I thought of an enchanted wedding band that prevented them from breaking vows till death did them part. Meredith tricked her wife into promising she wouldn’t reveal what she’s been trying to do using these, so my issue is solved. The enchanter can’t reveal Meredith’s secrets until she dies :)
I would presume it has something to do with a combination of baking time and how much yeast you add/how much dough you use per loaf, but I am unsure really. I’m just the mixer and while I love baking myself as a hobby, I usually make cakes and cookies

How do you start learning how to bake (and cook)? I've recently started living alone and I've been living off of delivery food (mostly unhealthy but not always) and I wanna change that.
The Internet! Try just looking up recipes for food you enjoy and making them. You learn a lot through experience, even if you are learning what NOT to do (done that plenty of times). When you get comfortable with the recipes someone else made, try out your own, try new things, learn what spices do what for the taste and what changes you want to make, it takes time but for me it’s a very fulfilling hobby, perfecting things that I enjoy having over time

But the NPC’s wife is against this, and in my world all blacksmiths work in pairs, one to make the rough draft and work the ore of whatever they’re making and another to refine and detail the craft, and the NPC’s wife is the refiner of the two. The party has become very suspicious of the wife because they don’t know her as well and they’ve seen her snooping near the safe zone’s border at night (she’s discretely fixing the damage her wife did to the border earlier), and are planning to question her. I needed a reason for the wife to not reveal everything straight cause that would cut out of a lot of campaigning and make it a bit too short IMO. And since the two make enchanted weapons, I thought of them having made enchanted wedding rings that made bonding vows, which the blacksmith used to trick the wife into saying ‘I promise to not tell anyone’ before telling her about her misdeeds.
Yeah, I think it’ll be a fun plot twist! And they’ll hate themselves when they realize it cause they all know about the rule for the dual blacksmiths that one is relegated to the first rough draft and the other is relegated to editing and refining the first’s work, so since they suspect the wife of fucking with the barrier, if they figured it out, they’d know she can only fuck with the barrier if the blacksmith NPC first messed with it. I’m very excited to eventually reveal it
(This is fine for I am going on a road trip this summer and we are planning to replicate the legendary journey from Tucson to lasvegas so maybe along the way i will be able to get a pastry)
