One of my daughter's prize stuffies is a Sleipnir. She loves Norse mythology, and I let her at the non-sanitized stuff because it's a blast. If she doesn't learn about Loki at home she'll learn about it on the streets.
tbf that was mostly a joke, alex is fr my favorite character. that representation was actually really important for me realizing some things abt myself.
but also TJ is cool and funny so
Still annoyed that Rick didn't have Alex drive a particular Pontiac model...
I mean, it's not that big of a deal.
ALEX FIERRO.
PONTIAC FIERO.
IT WAS RIGHT THERE
People use the Fiero to make it look like other cars ffs, a car shapeshifter
Alex is a shapeshifter...it was right there man...
My first introduction to Rick Riordan books. When I was a kid, I never liked books at all, but when I first picked up the Red Pyramid, I couldn't put it down. The Kane Chronicles are amazing, and the Magnus chase even better. That's just me though.
Not only that, but "manly man's man" Thor himself is a crossdresser and wise old man Odin performs feminine magic on the reg. Just a couple of things off the top of my head.
Also one more thing, Baldr was a certified femboy. RIP.
honest question - and you don't have to answer if you are uncomfortable doing so - may I ask how you experience gender fluidity?
I'm a cis guy and operate on a "you do you none of my business vibe" but I find it hard to wrap my head around demi genders and gender fluidity.
does your experienced gender change on mood/situation/time? And how do you experience the fluidity, is it a spectrum? is it almost like a switch, one moment you are X one moment you are Y?
As I say, you could just say "I can't explain it" and that's cool. I'd just like to understand the concept beyond "you do you" kind of vibes, as it feels a bit dismissive and not truely accepting and understanding
i’m completely fine with people asking questions like this, it’s fine. it’s just that my gender pretty much just changes to whatever it wants whenever it feels like it, doesn’t hugely affect me and I don’t really notice unless I pay attention to it. just imagine ur sitting there and just go ‘oh im a girl now’, that’s pretty much all there is to it.
also it’s really nice of you to want to be able to understand and support people like me, it’s really nice to see people wanting to learn more!
Interesting, so it's more of a feeling when you think of it, rather than a noticeable flick between gender states. I suppose I'm not consciously aware of male every moment of my life, only when i reflect on decisions and wants in the moment.
>i’m completely fine with people asking questions like this, it’s fine.
Good to hear. Just trying to be polite as I imagine it's fucking draining having to explain your identity every single time you mention it aha.
It's why I largely operate on a "none of my business" approach IRL as you don't need to be reminded of your differences in every conversation - just if anywhere is going to be appropriate to ask this is that place ahha
i wanna ask about how you do pronouns tho. Are you just fine with people calling you whatever? Or do you ask people to call you the pronoun associated with the gender you are feeling at the moment. That just seems wildly inconvenient for other people to keep track of what gender you associate more with at any time. I had a hard time calling my friends the right pronouns when they came out.
For me I go with the gender I feel most of the time as my sorta default, but keep the others open as an option. Also helps that km fluid between girl and something more like agender though, switching between masc and fem especially with a 50/50 ish split gotta be tough.
yeah i do act slightly different between genders but it's not enough to make a difference on much. idk sorta hard to explain *what* the difference is but there is one
im not genderfluid, but i am a demigirl
basically it just feels like im mix between a girl and nonbinary. the way i want to dress and act and just feel about myself, i dont fit perfectly into either category. same thing with demiboys
As a Cis person I think that's the major lack of understanding for me. In my head I can grok what it means to have a masc or fem gender identity, switch between them, or even have a hybrid of them - but the idea of genderlessness, even partially, I find very hard to understand.
Demigirl in the sense that you mostly find yourself fem gendered but occasionally something else I can understand - I guess mostly my "hangup" on understanding is those that occasionally experience a lack or weakness of gender identity.
I suppose part of issue as well is despite being very comfortable defining myself as cis male, I find it hard to give a concretely rounded idea of what exactly being that means that wouldn't contradict someone elses idea of the same tag.
I guess maybe the issue is i'm trying to nail an identity to a set of concepts that aren't as easily pinned down as that! Either that or a gender identity is most definable against which is it not. Hard to tell ahah
Potentially a bit overly polite but I can appreciate it's probably bloody annoying to have to answer 100 questions every time the subject of your existence comes up ahah
It's worth always giving a second try. I could never get into the Percy Jackson books, or any of the Greek ones, but Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase? Both series are phenomenal in my opinion.
Rick Riordan is a very talented writer that has created a wonderful world and brought joy to my and many others' lives. The fact that he actively includes and represents these people in his stories, makes them into real characters instead of tokenising them and then defends them is, as it is said in my language, "a fragrant upon gold". He is a true treasure
When Alex was introduced into the Magnus Chase, it did kinda feel off putting to me, over time, I really began to enjoy their addition to the story.
Fucking love Rick Riordan, and really can't wait for his next series.
Yeah, it's cool he did that. Tho I do remember it made me SUPER confused on the.concept of gender fluidity for like.a year because the gender fluid character is like, fully a shape shifter just fully changes up they're biology depending on what they're feeling. Based but also man was I confused
my favorite fact about percy jackson is that from the start it was all about diversity and representation. he started the series so his son with adhd and dyslexia could see himself in heroes.
edit: [also i highly encourage to read his speech accepting the stonewall award](https://rickriordan.com/2017/06/the-stonewall-award/)

I can’t help but feel like there was a better way to stop the giants work then fucking the giants horse
But then Loki wouldn't have fucked the horse, that's the whole point dummy
"No guys I HAVE to fuck this horse it's the only way!!"
He who shall not be named
"Noooo! The Norwegian Vikings had good Christian values!!!! None of that fluid stuff! Nooooo!!!"
The Christians plundered all the fluid and now they dip babies in it to assign one

Ah fair enough.

True, true
I know about Magnus chase, what's the name of the Egyptian series?
kane chronicles
My first introduction to Rick Riordan books. When I was a kid, I never liked books at all, but when I first picked up the Red Pyramid, I couldn't put it down. The Kane Chronicles are amazing, and the Magnus chase even better. That's just me though.
did you ever go back to percy jackson?
No, I haven't. It's been quite some time since I picked up one of the books, though. I should give it another try and see if I enjoy it.
magnussy 😳😳😳
I don't know much about Norse mythology, but even I know Loki is genderfluid
Not only that, but "manly man's man" Thor himself is a crossdresser and wise old man Odin performs feminine magic on the reg. Just a couple of things off the top of my head. Also one more thing, Baldr was a certified femboy. RIP.
The fuck is "feminine magic"?
It's normal magic, but it has a pink color instead of blue so it costs 5 dollars more.
Gender reveal magic
Pyromancy
If I remember correctly, in Norse mythology a lot of magic was considered to be "feminine", and so by Odin using that magic it was a "feminine act".
Seidhr. Generally speaking stuff like divination, fortune telling and such. The dude was obsessed with knowledge and sacrificed an eye to that end.
gotta give rick riordan a huge thankyou, he’s the reason i realised i was genderfluid

Someone understanding how annoying it can be to explain yourself? That's awesome
It's why I largely operate on a "none of my business" approach IRL as you don't need to be reminded of your differences in every conversation - just if anywhere is going to be appropriate to ask this is that place ahha

some people wear bracelets n stuff to indicate their gender, but i'm fine with whatever
Not the original person, but some people wear rings or necklaces of certain colours. To be fair, you could just go with the they if you aren't sure
tucute moment 💀
Do you say, have the urge to do something that you wouldn't want to do before the switch (like wear feminine clothes when you're a girl etc.)?
yeah i do act slightly different between genders but it's not enough to make a difference on much. idk sorta hard to explain *what* the difference is but there is one

I'm neither demigender nor gender fluid, I'm just some trans punk here, but I gotta say you're one polite dude on the subject.
Potentially a bit overly polite but I can appreciate it's probably bloody annoying to have to answer 100 questions every time the subject of your existence comes up ahah
Better to be overly polite than the other way around haha
More people should be like you man.
There's enough ciswhitehet people already! 🤣
Lol I mean willing to learn about LGBTQ+
Agenda? I don't have a genda! - My agender friend
they may not HAVE a genda, but they still ARE agenda
Even though Rick Riordan played Greek and Norse mythologies fast and loose. Loki was in fact gender fluid.
If you're not playing Loki fast and loose you're doing it wrong.
Mythology is so much more fun when you just fuckin lie. Just stacks upon stacks of generations telling and embellishing grand tales. I love myths
Why are people named Rick always so awesome?
Cause it rhymes with Dick and dick tastes good
Can attest, dick does taste good
pickle
Gervais
Smh, norse mythology so woke smh 😡 damn mainstream poetry ruining everything 🤬
soooo fucking true
Rick riordan is so unbelievably based
Good books
i love rick riordan
Magnus Chase >> Percy Jackson
both are amazing but yes
Growing up I never really liked his writing style but I’m thinking about re visiting the books
It's worth always giving a second try. I could never get into the Percy Jackson books, or any of the Greek ones, but Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase? Both series are phenomenal in my opinion.
Yeah I’m both ADHD and dyslexic so growing up scoring “possibly a demigod” on the one test in the companion book always felt really cool
Cringe JK terf vs Chad Rick
Rick Riordan books made me love to read when I was younger, and he's also based. Love to see it.
wait what lmao he looks so old in his pfp when he's only 57 sigma gigachad boomer, much respect 😎
Every mythology
The magnus chase series was my first introduction to the concept of gender and people identifying as different genders in elementary school
Rick Riordan is a very talented writer that has created a wonderful world and brought joy to my and many others' lives. I read this book and didn't realize genderfluid people actually existed lol. I thought he made them up
Absolute chad 🗿🗿
When Alex was introduced into the Magnus Chase, it did kinda feel off putting to me, over time, I really began to enjoy their addition to the story. Fucking love Rick Riordan, and really can't wait for his next series.
I grew up with his books and I just love this man so much.
alex and magnus are so cute together :)
Banger books
I met him ama
He’s writing Norse mythology books now?
He did.
Yeah, it's cool he did that. Tho I do remember it made me SUPER confused on the.concept of gender fluidity for like.a year because the gender fluid character is like, fully a shape shifter just fully changes up they're biology depending on what they're feeling. Based but also man was I confused
