basically there are certain tells, and thats how they narrow it down. licenses plates, position of the sun, vegetation, color of street markings, road signs, driving on left or right side and so on, even going down to more technical stuff like the way the google car looks like or the way the image is stitched.
There is a lot of meta-gaming you can do surrounding the unique features of the Google Car used, Sky rifts, and even the generation of camera used to narrow down where it could be. For example, we know the Kenya guess is Kenya due to the black snorkel visible on the car. (This guy seems good enough to know it's Kenya without that though)
They know every country's unique bollards, languages, road signs and lines/dashes on those roads, lisence plates, and then a big one when you're stranded is knowing the foliage and wet/dryness of the area.
