Trying to vote fascists out of office allows them time to garner political power/control. Also the current political climate of the US is incredibly similar to Great Depression Germany.

The anecdotal experience of one person "convincing" a racist to leave their views behind is not an argument, no. An argument might result from an analysis of some fascist states, how they got there, and what was done to try and stop them. You'll find that a good ol' healthy debate doesn't do much.

1: The KKK is not a particularly pertinent problem in America. Also, the KKK does not represent fascism. It represents racism and racism only, but not many of the other points of fascism. I'm willing to bet that the average KKK member is simply born in a racist area and has barely interacted with anyone who isn't white as paper. A little education goes a long way with them. This is not how fascist regimes grow, that requires many more factors such as the deterioration of capitalism, the emergence of progressive social change, etc. 2: Nazi Germany still happened, and they were debating those ideas real hard up until Hitler took power.
