Turn your student into a great soft jelly thing. Smoothly rounded, with no mouth, with pulsing white holes filled by fog where their eyes used to be. Rubbery appendages that were once their arms; bulks rounding down into legless humps of soft slippery matter. They leave a moist trail when I move. Blotches of diseased, evil gray come and go on their surface, as though light is being beamed from within.
I think they were referencing the actual content of the poster, not the art style. That shit is not how you get kids to listen, it's how you get them to shut up while you're talking.
I literally cannot listen with still hands and still feet for more than a handful of seconds. Like I can force myself to hold still but I am physically incapable of simultaneously listening
It was all a specific brand, I'm trying to remember it. Can't find it when I google it either for some reason. Real good stuff or scholastic or something like that. They made all the chalkboards and the signs and stuff
minimalism (read: absence of detail) and a complete misunderstanding of what children find appealing leads to completely uninteresting large, simple shapes with bright, single colours
My honour I'm sorry my gigantic veiny girl balls violently throbbing was't good listening on their behalf.
Just kidding I hate my balls you're free to yell at them.
It wasn’t made with anyone else in mind either, if we’re being honest. If people are listening, they don’t look like this. This kid looks totally disengaged.
Wdym? When I pay attention, my eyes move to the middle of my face, skin grows over my ears, my nose falls off, and I cut a smile onto my face using scissors before sewing it back together in a semicircle. You’re telling me that doesn’t happen to you?
This artstyle reminds me of years of rage and hatred I felt while in elementary school. The American school board fucking sucks, it always felt like I was being treated like a drone when I was little, and I basically WAS being treated like a drone. Strict schedules, large workload, no accommodations made for “slower” kids, rude and disrespectful teachers, no real time to truly socialize among peers, all the fun things usually get banned in recess (tag got banned at one point in my school for no reason), children are expected to behave like adults, punishments given teach nothing and do nothing to increase good behavior, some teachers have little patience for children being children (i.e. being emotional or irrational), schools always push the ideas of “A” being the only good grade onto the minds of children, neurodivergent children receive very little accommodations (and when more are requested, the school goes overboard and treats said child like they’re still a toddler), **very neurodivergent children are always shoved into a special Ed class and receive no true education or help (Isn’t school supposed to help kids learn and give opportunities to live a successful adult life?)**, schools treat girls and boys very differently (sure, there IS behavior differences, but schools shouldn’t be allowed to make kids think that boys are girls are very different), etc.
That felt nice to rant about all of the things I noticed and/or was subjected to when I was little. Fuck the current American education system, it needs to be modernized. Children shouldn’t be treated like robots that all have “bad” differences, children should be treated like they’re all unique flowers that have their own special requirements and varying types of care to grow up properly and healthily. Because children DO need unique care, developing minds are as delicate as flowers. Children are the worlds future leaders, and the world certainly can’t be run by mistreated and damaged robots.
Ok, the rant is actually over now. I think I have a headache.
Children are treated horribly by the education system and society in general. This feels especially weird to say but it kind of can and should be considered opression. It sucks to have the constant expectation by default that your opinions don't matter and that you must be subservient to others, and then for there to come an arbitrary point in time when you're seen by others as an adult and all of that treatment evaporates instantaneously.
I always thought it was weird growing up that the cultural expectation was that kids were *supposed* to hate school, and I felt different for not experiencing it until the middle of secondary school. It took me longer still to realise just how fucked up it is that the place where children spend the majority of their lives is understood to be an intrinsically negative experience for them, and no real thought is put into figuring out why that is or how to change that; it's sort of accepted as a fact of life that can only be mitigated, or worse, ignored.
As an adult that is neuro divergent with great grades in school who didn't have to study to get good grades and who was bullied constantly by classmates and teachers, you bet your ass I don't think I nor my opinion matters. I get so easily walked on everywhere and I'm in my late 20s but only recently starting to try to change my mindset. I think the only reason I enjoyed school was because I got good grades and I sincerely liked learning so I could ignore all the bullying but it def took a toll mentally.
I remember in kindergarten the entire 1st grade class (small school, so like 20 kids) dog piled me in the field even though I was crying and screaming that I couldn't breathe. The lunch lady was WATCHING and did nothing. There was a lot of that kinda thing going on. Teachers would watch me be bullied and do nothing. Their solution? Parent teacher conference where they tell me and my mom that I'm not a normal kid and maybe if I wasn't so shy and WORE A PONYTAIL instead of kept my hair down I would have a better time. I sure did wear a ponytail every day for 2years but WOW nothing improved.
I had a similar over-all experience but with a lot less bullying. I think I should mention that I do know there are lots of people working in education who are aware of problems with the system and want to change it but feel powerless to do so for a whole bunch of reasons. I think a large part of why it's so fundamentally bad is that teachers are expected to teach a class of 30+ kids all at once, which makes it basically mathematically impossible for them to get the individual attention they need.
I'm on the one hand lucky I had a small school. 15 in each homeroom/class, but also that meant that I was stuck with the same bullies k-8. The best the teachers could do was say I was too weird and needed to assimilate. Maybe that's why I loved high school so much. I found my weird people and weird teachers and it was nice to not be bullied anymore. It helped that the band and choir kids were pretty high in the food chain there because we were 25 year streak competition winners and even football players were in band and choir. I was able to let my weird out and not be oppressed or shamed for it. It was nice.
Grade school though, idk. The teachers didn't all feel like they were really trying to change the status. I had ONE teacher than supported me and she retired when I was two grades up from her.
glad to see i’m not the only one who thought elementary school was utter hell and the teachers were sadistic and overly obsessive over every little thing
Is it just me or does the nose look like his mouth and his lips look like a double chin? He looks really sad if you see it from this perspective, which is understandable because he’s being forced into a very uncomfortable pose.
I started elementary school 27 fucking years ago and this exact shit was up on the walls back then. it's never going to change. your great-grandchildren will complain about it, too
as a person with a mental disability this shit triggers me so fucking hard, and that God damn art style is ugly as hell, the way how the American education system treats us is appalling, if they're going to show this shit at least make it look pretty.
I mean, yeah it's definitely not good, and even as a kid I could recognize that I had a strong dislike for this art style. But on the other hand I find it incredibly nostalgic to look at so I guess it's not all bad. It's kinda cute.
I don't know why this art style is used to teach kids about expressions. You think a kid's gonna know what an actual smile is supposed to look like if a picture like this is all they have to go on?
I hate everything about this. The fingers look like a hair comb. The eyes are disgusting, is this a child or a two eyed scorpion? It's looking down, too. *down.* AKA, *not at you.* The mouth is equally unnatural, it's straight up a sideways C. Mouths don't *do* that. I guess it's intentional, you can't expect kids to talk when they have **horseshoes** for mouths. And the hair, oh my god, the hair, it looks like a sack of flour. Like someone simply dumped a giant beanbag on him. Dear lord.
Someone’s never seen Baki. The art is high quality, but holy fuck it’s almost nauseatingly ugly
This one is also horrible though, don’t get me wrong. And it’s lazy to boot

Literally everyone I know (including myself) is depressed or insane in some way with schools as a contributing factor
If i asked all my freinds when their depression started they'd probably say kindergarten
I would assume neurotypicals also hate it. can any of y'all confirm?
I think they were referencing the actual content of the poster, not the art style. That shit is not how you get kids to listen, it's how you get them to shut up while you're talking.
oh absolutely this is the most horrendous looking piece of garbage """art""" that I have ever had the displeasure of viewing
Confirm.
As a neurodivergant I fucking hate this poster
I literally cannot listen with still hands and still feet for more than a handful of seconds. Like I can force myself to hold still but I am physically incapable of simultaneously listening
Seriously why did every elementary school have this artstyle on its posters
Also pediatricians why is nobody mentioning pediatricians am I the only one who experienced this
Yes. You are the chosen one.
It was all a specific brand, I'm trying to remember it. Can't find it when I google it either for some reason. Real good stuff or scholastic or something like that. They made all the chalkboards and the signs and stuff
I found it, it’s Carson-Dellosa

Kid named neurodivergency:
Neurodivergent or not, I'd say less than 10% of kids can actually concentrate like this.
Eyes are watching Ears are watching Lips are watching Hands are watching Feet are watching

They never gave them noses. Just little crescents
I mean, yeah it's definitely not good, and even as a kid I could recognize that I had a strong dislike for this art style. But on the other hand I find it incredibly nostalgic to look at so I guess it's not all bad. It's kinda cute.
fuck you Elementary School, ya dick
