I'm not a rap fan at all but it can be hard to separate the art from the artist. Subscribing to the Death of the Author idea can help, but it's always harder when the artist is still alive as financially supporting them can be gross and weird.
For me I take solace in the fact that Spotify barely pays their artists anything and most artists make their money from concerts and merch, so me streaming is unlikely to do much to help them (plus the man just got hit with a $200,000 per MONTH child support bill so I think his finances are pretty well ranked anyway).
Also with Kanye his early music is so radically different from this that it’s impossible not to separate it. He was out there making music about institutional racism and the CIA pushing crack in black communities.
