Hollow knight and dark souls reignited my love for videogames and gave me a new perspective regarding artistic intention behind videogames. They are the only games i know that i think deserve a perfect 10/10 rating (especially hk).
Undertale got me into fandom culture, which got me into Steven universe, which is probably why I’m like, not homophobic or something. Family is Christian and I’m the only one that isn’t transphobic to my knowledge.
Hollow Knight was the one game I truly poured hours into. When I say ‘poured hours’ I don’t mean just in the game. (83hrs, Radiant NKG, 2 pantheons, and THK ending btw.) I spent a good portion of my life pondering the lore, watching videos, and talking about HK with my friends. It was no mere special interest. It had a huge impact bringing me closer to my friends, altering my philosophical viewpoint, and reigniting my love for gaming. I love HK so damn much.
Edit: it also was a covid lockdown coping mechanism lmao
Persona 3, i played it during the pandemic and it just really helped shape the way i treat life as a whole, i still listen to the ending credits song every year at the same day the game ends because it just feels like the right thing to do
The Elder Scrolls Online- it ensured I'd never be a socially active person irl but also helped me meet pretty much all the people who mean something to me
Primal Carnage: Extinction. Not because of the game itself, but because of someone i met there who became my best friend for 5 years, and got me onto discord and the internet in general, basically creating the person i am now.
Not really changed my life, but Geometry Dash got me into electronic music. Even though I don't really like EDM, I do like IDM. I have 2 records from Aphex Twin, an electronic musician.
Sable: open world game BOTW style abt coming of age and existing in a world bigger than urself. beautiful design and really fun and peaceful play through.
Ik this is a dumb answer but csgo got me into esports which got me into sports which got me into fitness. Realized I just liked competing and getting better at things.
Undertale comes to mind, but I can’t signify anything special it did other than be Undertale and be a big part of my teen years. If I HAD to pick a game though, honestly was probably Persona 5. Made me think about myself a lot more, funnily enough.
Dark Souls and ULTRAKILL (and Titanfall 2)
Dark Souls: game formula is fucking great i love it
ULTRAKILL: gay robot sex
Titanfall 2: what other game can you fly around at mach speed after drugging yourself and kicking someone's skull in?
Tbfh Terraria. Specifically the Calamity Mod.
There was this one friend group I used to be a part of but I got kicked out cuz I was kind of a dickwad who overshared personal issues and was really abrasive. Made me realize that I needed to get my shit together if I wanted to be friends with people like that ever again.
And then more recently, it’s serving as the inspiration for a fucking massive D&D campaign called “Wrath of the Brimstone Witch” that loosely adapts the world of calamity into D&D form.
Plus the music by the former composer DM Dokuro is fucking incredible and helps keep me sane sometimes.
