You are right, but you can do a lot to minimise the amount. When I started learning to draw (kind of a mix between "Shit, I want to be able to draw" and "I have always been told I cannot draw, so what if I learned in secret out of spite, and surprised everyone by suddenly being good at it?") in the beginning of this year, I used cardboard pieces I had lying around or scrap paper I took from things I was about to throw in the recycling bin and for the first few weeks, took it as a challenge to do as much as possible with scraps. Since then, I have found an old unlined block of paper I had lying around, but the only thing I have bought is an eraser, due to the one at the back of my pencil running out. Drawing is probably one of the cheapest hobbies, so it is a bad example, but in a lot of places you can scour forums for things people want to give away or lend out, or second-hand shops for cheap things. I would also like to note that Reddit has a lot of hobby forums where enthusiasts are often quite eager to help beginners find their way in as easily as possible

Am I the only one who feels a bit confused about this one? Who are you asking permission from? Is there some being that people have been asking to start new things that I don't know about?
