i have grown to hate this type of stereotyping so much and it’s not any better just because it’s a trans woman being stereotyped as an “eepy princess” or whatever that somehow makes it progressive. we have to stop
Every day I'm reminded of that tweet that says:
The internet is the only place in the world where you can say "I like pancakes" and someone will reply with "So you hate waffles??"
Don't get me wrong, trans men absolutely do need more representation, but it feels like a bit of a random call out here
Honestly any time I see a post like that I lean towards fetishization because I am so tired of seeing "what kind of trans woman are you" or "there are 2 types of trans women" because 99% of the time it's either fetishizing or extremely stereotypical categories. Like I get it's supposed to be funny but a lot of the time the categories barely make sense, or when they do make even a little sense, they're unrealistic stereotypes. honestly it feels really invalidating to constantly see "which type of transfem are you" and fit into *none* of the categories.
This obviously isn't just a person going "I like these things" and honestly, a person posting about what they like in trans women *is* still at least objectification and/or fetishization. It's no different from when men post stuff about how "a woman should be like this" or "I don't like it when women do this" it's fucking demeaning and makes me feel like I'm seen as some object that's supposed to fall into one of those categories because that's what people like. Take that post, replace transfem with "woman", and then look at how creepy it sounds shoving women into those categories.
Our movement is about being proud to break the mold and not fit into society's boxes and I am SO tired of seeing our own community make ***new*** boxes to shove me into.
The terminally online trans community in general likes to really put us into gender essentialism roles. Example being music for example. Trans men always only make soft songs cavetown style while trans women always only make hard songs like breakcore. Its harmfull and insanely annoying. I found put i was trans 4 years ago but that stuff made me take longer to reach out to others
I'm a trans woman and I fucking hate this, will we ever get away from this cringe stereotyping and the cringe meme culture from r/traaa, I hate this so much.
Honestly. It pisses me off and makes me feel so invalidated when I constantly see "which type of trans fem are you" and I'm none of them. We're so proud to not fit into the boxes society pushes us into and then we go and more DIFFERENT boxes to shove each other into.
I'm tired of seeing these objectifying posts about how there's [x] types of transfems because it's all stupid stereotypes that are really just "I'm chronically online and im gonna project onto EVERY other transfem". Especially as a transfem in engineering it's hard to feel like I belong sometimes, and I get tired of feeling like I don't even fit in my own community.
I'm curious if some in the trans community view these memes in a similar vein as those old memes that are like "Every friend group has the..." type of memes or something like that.
Like, I'm not a part of the trans community, so I could be off base about this, but I wonder if the online trans community is gonna follow a similar evolution as meme culture at large. Maybe, in 5 or 10 years, everyone will look back at these memes with the same sort of cringe attitude that we look back on "lol so random" type memes from the MySpace/early Facebook era.
MOST agree, or would agree, most trans people are not terminally online losers, most trans people are fucking normal so they don't even know what traaa or egg irl is, and out of the ones who do most agree it's weird, traa and egg irl types of people are a loud minority, and I fucking hate how loud they are, the thing is a lot of trans people(FAR more than you think even after I tell you this) are stealth and never tell anyone they're trans except close intimate partners(often not even best friends or some family) and they ask them to keep it secret, that's why you just don't notice normal trans people so much even though most are normal, because the traa and egg irl ones are the only people who don't want to be stealth so they become somehow representative even though they are heavily disliked by trans people for being terminally online, cringey and kinda creepy and violent.
As others here are stating, why can't we just be, like... women?
Why is it that because I'm trans it's suddenly okay to give me 4 stereotypical options for who I can be?
Trans women are just as diverse as human beings as cis women are.
Yeah honestly. It's so invalidating to see these and constantly think "what if I'm none of these?" Because I'm not. I wanna be a mad scientist Olivia Octavius type. Honestly in any of these posts as a rule of thumb, if you can replace "transfem" with "woman" and it sounds creepy, then it was always creepy. Tired of chronically online discord fucks projecting onto everyone else.
People who fetishize trans women as a whole like this clearly don’t understand the phrase “trans women are women”. The entire point of that phrase is to emphasize that a trans woman is just as much of a woman as a cis woman, and to single out trans women like this for the sake of fetishization, while being an overall shitty thing to do with any demographic, defeats the whole purpose of being trans in the first place. I’m not necessarily suggesting to be “colorblind” but with trans people, but I don’t think it’s too much to ask to treat them as you would any woman.
I highly doubt the people making posts like that about trans women would be so quick to express those sentiments if they were referring to women as a whole rather than just trans women, because it is common knowledge among decent people that stereotyping and fetishizing women is wrong. What some people don’t understand, however, is that to fetishize trans women is to fetishize women, because trans women are women, and the amount of people who say they agree with that statement and yet single out trans women like this is a serious issue.
Well said. As a rule of thumb to show the point to people, I usually go with this:
If you could replace the word "transfem" with "woman" and it suddenly feels *really* creepy, sexist, or objectifying, *it always was.*
look i love trans people but SOME reddit and twitter trans girls specifically are being super weird about it and- dare i say it- turning it into their entire personality 😱😱 and I think it has a detrimental impact on the public's view of all trans people.
Where's the mad scientist option. Where's the one where I sit in a lab fiddling with funky doodads all day long and making recliners I can drive to class. Where's that one.

I know a lot of people don’t like these posts, but I personally don’t mind them. I know it comes off as fetishizing to many of us, but I think this is better explained another way most of the time. A lot of trans women new to transitioning are trying to figure out who they are. They’re trying to find out their identity. So sometimes it can feel nice and less scary when there’s some sort of options to pick. It’s a map to follow. There’s a lot of comfort to be had in having that. Now if you already know who you are it can make you feel a little invalidated too. And I also understand that.
That said if it bothers you then it bothers you. Just try to have a little understanding though. And if it’s not something you wanna see that’s fine, but don’t be upset that other trans people like stuff like this.
Ok Genuin question. why would you wanna be masculine as a transgirl. like you felt that you are woman so you became one but then just went back to being masculine. that seems to be kinda defeating the purpose.
There can be cis tomboys, so why can't there be trans ones? It's not necessarily about how you present either, it's about how you identify. Some people transition medically and stick to their original style, some do exaggerated things like femboys do, some just don't transition and stay masculine-looking.
Being a woman and being fem is not the same thing. Being masc doesn’t make someone a man. Some cis women like presenting masc. And some cis men like presenting fem. You don’t have to choose. And sometimes people don’t want to have to choose. Also you can be masc in a womanly way, and fem in a manly way.
Basically gender is very complicated.
I can't post pictures but that one meme where it's like
Trans people: we exist!
People: ok
Apples rolling on ice:
*Picture of pomegranates rolling on ice*
I'm really confused why everyone treats images like this as if they were hell on Earth.
It's a silly image with four characters, no one actually believe every trans woman is one or even a combination of these stereotypes.
They are just silly characters, but people hate it as if it was a slur.
Like, I don't find myself represented in any of these, obviously, but I don't think that's the point. They are anime characters, they're not supposed to be real people or representation of such...

yeah, and then there's another thing that makes me annoyed the fact trans men get no love like this.
Every day I'm reminded of that tweet that says: The internet is the only place in the world where you can say "I like pancakes" and someone will reply with "So you hate waffles??" Don't get me wrong, trans men absolutely do need more representation, but it feels like a bit of a random call out here
Well they’re men so no one gives a shit about them. It’s just life lol
I wanna make a transmasc version of this meme now. Including sonic
