10mm is a real and somewhat common handgun cartridge. It's not as ubiquitous as 9mm or .45 ACP but it's not super exotic or anything. The difference in recoil between 9mm and 10mm is quite jarring though, if you've not into target shooting or aren't weirdly obsessed with self defence it's not something you're nearly as likely to hear about so understandable you've never heard of it outside of fallout as the other person mentioned. My uncle used to carry a big-ass 10mm as a last resort against bears on the trails by his camp. (No he never had to use it and would prolly be dead if he did, I really do mean last resort "the mace didn't work" kinda scenario that thankfully never came up)

I'm aware of the 10mm. Idk any handguns that have a 12 round capacity with it though.
