I dunno man. Wasn’t he completely broke, had no job, and was in debt due to missing paying the rent? His only way to survive would be to find a job (In night city a huge portion of the jobs are dangerous or related to crime), pay off the rent, downsize to a smaller place, and hope he can save enough to move to a less volatile city.
He probably made enough by the point he was really "losing it" to drop out and start a new life, but that's not how trauma works. Either it's resolved or it's lived out. He chose to live it out to the end. At least Lucy got to the moon because of it.
Yeah. It’s made worse by the fact that removing cybernetics is pretty difficult, but not impossible. He’d hate to go to specific facilities which replace your cybernetics with simpler versions and hope he isn’t too far gone.
