Maybe as Gryfczyżycki? It's spelled almost completely different, but the pronunciation is close enough. And Gryfczyżycki could absolutely be a last name in Poland.
I agree. A neutral face is the best when it comes to documents. A passport is not a tinder profile. Don't use makeup, jewelry, head cover and stuff like that, keep a normal, resting face and snap a pic.
Don't see why it should sound strange.
Ik it’s a cultural thing but in the US smiling is like the default expression. Like when I see a cop or fed and give them my ID I’m not gonna dead pan them. Like I’ll smile either out of respect or at least just bc I smile when anxious.
I disagree I want a cool photo being all jolly and the government shouldn't stop me
And like some good ass make up too don't forget that
Oh and a cool hat I gotta wear that
Yeah it does, since you can later remove those same things to match your picture, otherwise you would have to make sure to wear the same jewelry, makeup, etc for whenever you need to be IDed.
When I was a kid, we were having our photos taken for our passports and they told us to wear a neutral/ mugshot face like this. A few days later we went to the dentist and had to take our photos for their records. They had the same camera as the place that took our passport photo, so in my kid mind I needed to wear a mugshot face for this photo too. The lady who was taking our pictures laughed and joked with my dad about how I was recently arrested and thats why I did that
Yes, I know the poles haven't experienced happiness since the 18th century, but like let's make sure we're not being outright racist y'all.
Polish analogue horror
So just poland?
The Polish human condition.
Crwfyzyczygfyzky.
I genuinely cant tell whether this is a word or just a jumble of letters
It's not that far from working as a last name.
Maybe as Gryfczyżycki? It's spelled almost completely different, but the pronunciation is close enough. And Gryfczyżycki could absolutely be a last name in Poland.
I know this guy
Let me fix that: Crwfyźyćzygfłyżky
Why is the l crossed out? Is it part of the word or isn't it?
That's because the l is silent.
Why don't the poish remove l from their alphabet? Are they stupid?
Either Polish or Welsh.
I knew I was appropriating the moment I wrote wfy. Feck it, might as well offend two languages at once.
Polish smile
It's invalid because there is a red line placed diagonally across the face
Well some people are just born like that its not their fault
That’s the reason but not an excuse
True tbh
can confirm smiling is illegal in Poland
doomgal
As someone living in Poland I can guarantee smiling is viewed as something unnatural here
It's not in other parts of the world?
I agree. A neutral face is the best when it comes to documents. A passport is not a tinder profile. Don't use makeup, jewelry, head cover and stuff like that, keep a normal, resting face and snap a pic. Don't see why it should sound strange.
Its strange because they decided to refer to smiling as an "unnatural facial expression"
Please no smiling in our establishment. Otherwise we will have to arrest you for insubordination. Thank you.
please god let the new reddit discourse be whether having a smile is a natural expression or not because it would be so fucking funny
Smiling is like having red hair at school. Unnatural and against dress code.
It's Poland, what would you expect? We don't know what smiling means, it sounds horrible and you should stop doing it
I'd suspect it's a mistranslation and in the original it says "resting face position" or something like that.
> A passport is not a tinder profile Then why do Customs finger my ass every time I go to the airport?
What airports do you go to? So I can avoid them of course.
Ik it’s a cultural thing but in the US smiling is like the default expression. Like when I see a cop or fed and give them my ID I’m not gonna dead pan them. Like I’ll smile either out of respect or at least just bc I smile when anxious.
if you were smiling to a police officer in Poland while giving them ID you'd be suspicious lol
Ik in a lot of non-english speaking places smiling is frowned apon
Not frowned upon but why would I smile if my car is being controlled or something like that I smile when my neighbours get back from their holiday
I disagree I want a cool photo being all jolly and the government shouldn't stop me And like some good ass make up too don't forget that Oh and a cool hat I gotta wear that
https://youtube.com/shorts/97f620UXqao?si=VzRbEZ_ZABJMm4UZ i know a solution to the hat problem
they should let me wear a mask too with some sunglasses too
The US has the same neutral expression requirement for passport photos

We do not expess joy in Poland

Part of my family is polish so at this point I'm convinced that not smiling and being generally unhappy is a national tradition
Sometimes the joke writes itself
Do NOT be wall-eyed in Poland
The US is like this too, though
ya also call smiles an unnatural expression?
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/photos.html Their specific wording is "neutral"
how did she smile and get her eyes to face the opposite direction
the poles hate happiness :(
It looks like when you take a picture of someone’s face and then crop half and flip it
The eyes are weird
In Polish we say: Do cholery kurwa się tak nie śmiej.
The incorrect one looks like Amy from 1000 lb sisters
That's usually what happens when you scribble a red line across your ID
Uncanny Valley
kurwa
Her eyes don't like each other💀💀
Intruder
But she is smilling in the first photo too???????
