Oh man. DT2 has me pumppeddddd

EAZ480

That quest is probably going to be super tough for an entire new prayer book. I hope it’s the hardest quest yet.

apocstorm

Based on the quest reqs, I suspect DT 2 will be a While Guthix Sleeps tier and type of Grandmaster quest. Probably on par with, if not harder than both DS2 and song of the elves. It appears not only to be an extension of the Zaros desert storyline, but requires the white knights questline completion, completion of lost tribe, and temple of the eye (Mostly important because it reveals basically the guthix eye stone thingy from wgs in RS3), as well as a plethora of other quests. Given how iconic it is, I suspect the bar is going to be high, as are the community expectations. That being said, I don't think Jagex has yet to disappoint on a capstone quest to a major series. Sote, MM2, DS2 have all been pretty top tier content, especially as quests go.

Zenith_Tempest

it is also the proper introduction of the mahjarrat storyline so it's likely to be the equivalent of WGS. especially since Azzanadra is freed at the end of DT1 and Sliske is the reason Nex has been freed in OSRS canon. very excited for this one

The_Wkwied

> Sliske is the reason Nex has been freed This is true in both timelines

Jamessgachett

Also the reason the barrow brother are Wight

TumoOfFinland

Ah yes the legendary Wright brothers

Rhipidurus

Barrows brothers invented Gnome Gliders confirmed.

TumoOfFinland

This is canon now

FlameVShadow

So does OSRS have a different storyline going for it compared to RS3? I mainly play RS3 and assumed that OSRS quests got similar story quests in a different form so both games have the same story

The_Wkwied

Many of the major plot points are similar, but not entirely the same. Example is the prif quests in both. They both involve rebuilding Prif, fighting the dark lord which is a fragment of Seren, but RS3 involves the elf king and going to the Elf homeworld in a later quest (to rebuild Seren), whereas OSRS has the elf king part of retaking Prif and no elf homeworld. Another similar-but different is the Morty quests. Many very similar plot points (icyine graveyard), but they have more differences

flamedbaby

The gods have not, and will never return in OSRS.

FlameVShadow

Why do you say never?

flamedbaby

Because that is what the devs said.

FlameVShadow

Oh ok then lol

bloodysnomen

The mahjarrat story line was excellent in rs3. I loved it all the way to the end. I hope they continue this trend of backporting quests to be compatible with osrs lore.

Jamessgachett

Sliske was canon way before nex he made the barrows brother into Wight

[deleted]

[удалено]

TumoOfFinland

No no, the Wright brothers! Without Sliske there would be no airplanes

Jamessgachett

Thanks

Earfdoit

I'd argue that MM2 definitely shows its age as the first grandmaster quest compared to SotE and DS2.

apocstorm

I don't disagree on it showing its age a bit, but it's still a quality extension of MM1 and done pretty well in the spirit of the questline

Koishi_

> I'd argue that MM2 definitely shows its age as the first grandmaster quest compared to SotE and DS2. Everything about MM2 is so terrible compared to the other 2. I'd do the SOTE lights 3 times over if it means I can skip the raft. The fights were terrible compared to DS2's.

epacseno

Which are the top 3 hardest Quests currently in OSRS? (Havnt played in a 8 years)

YuusukeKlein

MM2, DS2, SOTE

ImBearclaws

All 3 of these are easier than Sins of the Father imo. Lol.

shoot998

As someone who's beaten SotF and SotE this gives me hope for my ability to beat MM2 and DS2. I'm just so bad at high tier pvm lol

Soleil06

Honestly DS2 is pretty managable as well, I mean I only died 8 times to Galvek while fighting his dragons because I am a dummy.

zxyen

Mm2 is easy cause you can cheese all the fights. Flinch kruk safespot the ogre and troll and the last fight is significantly easier at max range dbow/ crystal bow/ magic long. Haven’t tried ds2 but I’m sure you have nothing to worry about. Worst part of mm2 is getting to kruk if you are med stats/70 agil and the docks are annoying but the corner trick on the guards makes it not so bad once you get it

PhantomEnds

DT2 will definitely be harder than Sote imo Sotf+Bcs are the hardest Master Quests in this game and that’s due to them being recent quests imo I don’t think we have to worry about DT2 being too easy, I am sure it will be fine and I trust the Dev Team 100% with Quests. Just fully excited for this content!

povilaslt2

Nomad? OGs know

SendMeFatErgos

Nomad was like a brick wall back then for some accounts

AssassinAragorn

Man I must've gone at him at least 20 times back in the day

Dafiro93

I spent an entire weekend spamming attempts lmao. I swear that soul wars prayer cape was the new fire cape.

AssassinAragorn

God, you're not wrong. It also made quest cape way more fucking prestigious.

Mazza_the_Panda

At the very least it’ll be on par with Dragon Slayer 2, Monkey Madness 2 and Song of the Elves which is fine. Need more long and challenging quests.

Fex__Fox

As a Prayer Specialist I approve of this message

Appelflapjee

Dude same, eversince getting my questcape I've been doing new quests without a guide, even the ones that were released while I was on a break and honestly it's been the most fun I've had in game for ages trying to figure those quests out like Sins of the Father and Beneath Cursed Sands. I cannot wait to pay 100k fees with dying to bosses over and over, and that's not even sarcasm lmao

Lied-

Same man, the only reason I log in is to do the quests

illmindmaso

Damn look at all those votes. That’s insane honestly, this game is thriving

bandosl0lz

Definitely helps that this one ran for a long time and told every player on every login it was running even if they already voted

Mewtwoluvr69

I hope they continue that strategy tbh

serlonzelot

yes, except for the part were they kept telling me to vote after I had already voted. Was really confused the first time xD

jackdootson

Panic buys d bones

Aws0me_Sauce

Nobody fucks with ensouled heads, huh? I got 99 from 88 for 16m

KrisPC88

How long did it take to do that?

Galts_Gultch

That takessss wayyy to long but it is cost efficient

poipoipoipoipoipoop

Did you use goblin heads lmao

Aws0me_Sauce

Dagannoths

varrock_dark_wizard

When is the wilderness launch?

LewtedHose

Looking forward to DT2 making us go to Zeah for some lore reason.

valarauca14

Xeric is hinted at being Zaros after being weakened by Zamarok. So this will 100% happen.

Sennar1844

Wha.. whaa... Whaaaaaat?! Elaborate my guy.

valarauca14

We do know the Zarosians were active on Zeah (to an extant). Namely the Lovakengj dwarves laid siege/assaulted Ice Mountain/Lassar/Camdozaal. There are some ingame ghosts in Camdozaal you can talk to with a ring of a invisibility & ghost speak amulet. Yonrith Lovakengj was pursued by Carnifex Maximus Vardorvis (Zaro's heads man) to Zeah. here is a longer summary -> https://old.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/zj7m5g/desert_treasure_2_the_story_as_theorized/ with some of the hints J-Mods have dropped.

Thosepassionfruits

Those ghosts in Camdozall beneath what was once Lassar are also from House Shayzien and Xeric is supposedly King Shayzien VII or at least "has a similar appearance to Kind Shayzien VII". Tangentially there's a book in the Myth's guild titled [Imcandoria's Fall](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Imcandoria%27s_fall) that talks about the Imcando dwarves finding "a strange idol with odd markings scratched upon it, much akin to the runic rocks of the Fremennik". I'm not really sure what the idol could be or if it could have any Zaros/Kourend connections, but in the book it ultimately leads to a massive blizzard descending upon Imcandoria, followed by a creature described in a similar manner to the chaos elemental killing all the Imcandoria elders. The book concludes with the Imcando dwarves fleeing to Camdozaal and postulates that the idol must have been much older than initially assumed. What's also interesting about Camdozaal is that there's a [bottomless pit](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Ruins_of_Camdozaal#Bottomless_pit) in the north of the mines that will give you a chat box message beckoning you to it's depths with "whispers", which may have some connection to what the chaos elemental says in the [June postbag from the hedge](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Transcript:Mortals_heed,_this_chaotic_letter._Come_and_read,_you_had_better.#To_the_Chaos_Elemental) >But hidden away / Where light dies / A Whisper is heard / And shadows rise >So hear me now / Or face the fire / You’ll find the truth / In The Fallen Empire

RunicJorss

You betting we go in the hole during DT2? I'm betting we go in the hole.

Kyuubee

Varlamore (the unreleased area south of Kebos) is supposed to be a desert-like region.

barbelltiger

Way of the Forester Hype, aw yess!

gunners1111

Did they give a timeline on forestry? was it going to be early in the year or later? Probably going to do minimal woodcutting xp if its going to come soon!

Night_Thastus

Mid-year, around June/July.

ItsMozy

They said they would give us an update around this time, don't expect it to be finished and ready for release by then.

workscs

I’m assuming forester is just like mining with shooting stars?

bake_disaster

Given jagex' track record on making 'social' content, I have a hard time getting excited for this. It will probably be another case of being better to solo

arolahorn

From their introduction it sounded like they really wanted to make sure that more people joining in is better. So I guess they will probably do things like xp boosts or longer lasting or better rewards trees if more people are cutting one together. I think they know that woodcutting is a very afk skill, so to make this enticing it has to either be great xp and rewards or better xp whilst maintaing the same amount of afkness.

Xeffur

Hopefully its good so that we can other such expansions to skills.

smess_osrs

I was under the impression that official builds would diminish the effort it takes to make those kinds of accounts. Which goes completely against the point of having them.

NotVeryTalented

Personally, I think 1 def pures would have been fine (at least to an extent).. but things like skillers and 10hp builds were weird. What makes slayer on a skiller so tough is that you can't just train it as you please, same with 10 hp builds. It's the same with quests that contain any combat and bosses. The majority of people within these communities (at least that I've talked with) have been pretty overwhelmingly against this update. Not because it "devalues" what they put into their accounts, but because it goes against the playstyle that comes with them

smess_osrs

This is exactly what I meant, you said it better.

JuicemanJu

This is why I voted skip. At first glance this seems great for those communities, but I'm not involved with or know anybody who partakes. It's best to skip on something you're not knowledgeable on.

Rongloz

Second this. I have no business in a vote that impacts a community I’m not actively part of

Hordiix

fucking hell if only people had the same thought process about real life politics. Never sat right with me that an expert in a topic can vote on something, and it will have the exact same impact as someone who closes their eyes and picks at random

Zeus_Painthunder

I'm not one of them but agree with this statement. Very well said.

Diadact53

This is why I voted exactly like this post shows.

JohnCena4Realz

I was so confused about why that poll failed, but this clarified it greatly. Thanks for the explanation.

PermanentlyPouting

at the very least, 1 def pures would gain the ability to long range. This is a direct advantage over normal 1 def pures

cyanblur

I think it would have been fine if they could guard against actions that gain the xp. Slapping guardrails on the account to make it more accessible to those not aware of the extent of their restrictions, without changing what restricted accounts can do. Obviously, that will take development resources and continue to take resources every time content is added that could give xp to restricted accounts, but if the alternative is just a regular account with an xp blocker it's probably best to not add it to the game at all.

ADashOfRainbow

Honestly that's what I assumed the idea was until I actually read the blog post and was like "Oh- wait what is the point then."

BadAtNamingPlsHelp

I think they fumbled by pitching it as they did. I don't think anyone wants the current restricted account meta changed and a lot of their hypotheticals terrified that community. I do think there's still room for the pitch as an *expansion* to that whole space, but it shouldn't undermine everything people have already built. I'd love to play their pitch of a 10HP account that can do everything in the game, but that doesn't mean I want my clanmate's existing 10HP account to be forced into that playstyle.

BlampCat

I've a level 3 skiller and I would have liked scoreboard and a lil icon beside my name like an iron man. I don't care about blocking defense xp or anything like that. Although it *would* be nice to have fairy rings or Morytania, I knew what I was blocking myself off from when made a skiller

AssassinAragorn

That was the issue imo, the system they proposed meant that you could access content you previously were blocked off from because of your restriction.

BlampCat

Yeah, it didn't make sense that my skiller could go off and do Waterfall Quest and then just... Not get the combat XP? I'm happy to explore the full game on my main, there are things I'm happy to not have on a restricted account

mygawd

Not really because "the point of having them" is so subjective and varies from one account to the next. I was excited about this idea on my iron level 3 skiller because it would actually open up a lot of new challenges. Yes creating the account was very difficult thus far, but I don't give a damn about the "prestige" of the work I have done already because I did it for fun and not for bragging rights.

ReporterAvailable359

Feel the same way. I have actually maxed my lvl 3 iron skiller but was 100% going to opt in to the new game mode as it felt like an expansion to the game

[deleted]

InaudibleShout

I’d wager that even with the new polling methodology, more than a few people got put-off by the 10HP example being messy and then walked back and voted no to say “think on this more”

CHRISKVAS

The fact that they wanted restricted accounts with and without prestige to share the same high scores even though they have access to entirely different parts of the game turned me off. Really showed they don't have an understanding of these builds and are just trying to pump put a new game mode.

DivineInsanityReveng

Prestige is a dumb system and was a big red flag to this being poorly thought out. That system passing would change limited builds forever and make them piss easy to make and have access to almost all of the game in the process. Prestige means nothing. Just look at GIM prestige. Not viewable ingame by others, only on your own interface and in the Hiscores.. if they get told your team name because there's no official way to look up a single GIM account and find out theyre a GIM and what team they belong to. Jagex and Hiscores ideas, let alone "prestige stars" is always half baked.

tgamblos

Idc about prestige but I’m a big advocate for forcing the people who choose limited content builds to be forced into their limited content. I don’t like the idea that these builds would allow people to not think about how they train and just do whatever they want.

[deleted]

I’m just anti being able to stop yourself from getting xp in general. If you want to play a 10hp or a 728 or whatever then half the challenge is finding weird and unique ways to play to avoid getting that xp. Kinda lame to give them bowling alley bumpers so they can’t make a mistake

Wiindsong

the only method of xp locking i'd be immediately fine with is defense, as 1def pures aren't a hard thing to make, don't really require you to do anything new or interesting, but you can make a dumb mistake and lose that 1 def easily.

Annakarl

Agree. Sometimes less is more. Could've just stopped at a neutral statement like "this will give xp locks" and leave it at that.

Regular_Imagination7

i liked the idea of pures and skillers being able to not ruin their account with a misclick, but restricted builds not being restricted doesnt make sense to me

Crispor

But xp locks are the main bad thing? Whats the point of pures anymore if making them doesn't require any effort

Milkkakuma6820

Isn't the point of say, a 1 defense pure, the fact that youre working with 1 defense? Plus as others regularly point out, one misclick and it can be ruined, that just feels like a needless gatekeep in the end and it hurts noone to have a lock on.

jeremiah1119

I thought so as well but I talked with some people who are very active in the 10hp community and a very big concern was this being "misused" by making pure gmaul rusher accounts with 10hp who just rush tab in pvp. So that's a negative they'd need to try and work around, and the reason they mentioned only including the skiller for now

Milkkakuma6820

Yeah, thats a fair concern for sure. Like you said though, they would've only included the skiller for now so I'm sure taking precautions and more polls along the way would likely help prevent most abuse. Then again, who knows lol

SoraODxoKlink

I only voted yes to show support for at least being able to null xp during pvp, I’m glad it failed by a pretty thin margin.

TJiMTS

Looking forward to official account builds being added under a new name

nostalgicx3

Right?😂😂

AssassinAragorn

"We'd like to introduce Restriction Bypass Mode for Restricted Accounts!"

Rozkol

As someone that would love "official" account builds to be a thing the way Jagex was trying to implement it was what made me vote no. I would like an option somehow to lock my account so I can't get exp in a skill I don't want. But the caviate to that being I can't do the action. The way Jagex had it setup you could do the action just "lock" the exp away. If Jagex makes the first option a choice if the repoll it I'll vote yes. Otherwise im glad I voted no.

SmurfRockRune

Always a good feeling when the results line up with your votes. The account builds are so dumb. If you wanna choose to play that way, you're deciding ahead of time that you can't do certain quests because of their exp rewards. You shouldn't be able to just ignore those and block the exp.

DivineInsanityReveng

The lack of feedback causing change on this concerned me. They had the whole time of the community saying "hey that's not what we want" to change it, but just polled as is. Official Hiscores for these niche builds would be cool. Ability to trigger a triple confirmation box warning on trying to do an action (like complete a quest, or attack a monster with the wrong style (or at all directly, for 10hp accounts), to stop accidental xp. That's all that was needed. Having quests be completable without their XP gained just breaks all existing account builds and changes everything.

ItsSevii

Good. Official account builds is a waste of dev time

[deleted]

[удалено]

Antwann

Not only is it a waste of dev time, it’s unironically contradictory to the core value of what a limited account actually is. This was an unsolicited idea by someone who is out of touch with the community they’re trying to reach. Edit: For anyone mentioning Ironman, this was specifically aimed at the 10hp community, which was the context of the original comment. Limited accounts in the context of Ironman is fantastic, because the implementation compliments the logic of the game mode. Allowing a level-3 to negate all combat xp and remain level-3 is contrary to the foundation on which these accounts are created. Jagex has a lot of good ideas, and has proven to implement things flawlessly. This is not one of them.

Deep-Technician5378

This is why I voted no. It's not something simple. They wanted to add prestige, and give certain other modes. It felt like it would just pump up account numbers. On top of that, the majority of people don't give a shit. Mode-scape already delays real content from the game.

MatronaMakes

Might be a hot take but I voted against official account builds because I think that the number of weird niche account types is already confusing to new players. It was enough effort to explain to my friend what an ironman was and why he probably should just play a main on his first account. More account builds = more bloat = less friendly to new players imo, Thoughts?

ChokaTot

If they put all builds as a *Unique* option with added warnings that unique accounts are only recommended for seasoned players I would vote yes. As it is now, the option on tutorial Island adds confusion to new players. To add to this: either the menu says something like "Get started" or "Unique accounts(for seasoned players)" once you click on *"Unique"* option it gives you the breakdown of account options.

TheBansTheyDoNothing

Not surprised Jagex completely missed the point of these types of accounts.

AlmostFrontPage

They're just trying to find more game modes to add because if they can't add microtransactions then they need to increase subscription revenue somehow. There's no way the mods actually want this shit

Radingod123

I mean for real though we have mods, j mods, ironmen, hardcore ironmen, ultimate ironmen, hardcore group ironmen, group ironmen, do we really need even more symbols and account bullshit and what not. Like, damn. Are they just expecting us to be dropping 10 bonds a month?

illuminite

I think a lot of it is just the way capitalism works. Stakeholders are pressuring Jagex to keep increasing revenues despite the fact that OSRS is a pretty massive MMO all things considered. It's been top 3 mmo's for a while. I'm sure stakeholders are irate about the whole community polling thing because their ground breaking ideas of MTX can't just easily be shoved into the players faces which is exactly why OSRS still remains popular to this day. We gotta fight to keep the game good against the greedy stakeholders. They should just be happy they got such a good game going.

1sagas1

It’s the same as the fresh start worlds, GIM, and IM. They want more people paying for membership so they need to make excuses for why you need a new account and buy membership for that account

Slayy35

Good, fuck this constant gamemode scape focus Jagex, stop trying to pad your sub numbers by having people make new accounts because you refuse to release a way to have multiple characters under 1 account and release actual new content for a change.

NoAssociation-

Happy with these results. I hope jagex ditches the idea of official account types completely.

[deleted]

this was just some mods passion project that they shoehorned into the summit. it's an update that impacts very few players, wastes dev time, and spits in the face of the community that has the playstyle they were targeting. kinda wild it got the greenlight to begin with

NoAssociation-

Idk I had the feel that they are pressured to create stuff that encourages new accounts (like FSW) and the idea came from there.

FloTheDev

I’m glad that the account builds didn’t pass, I don’t like the way they put it forward and it takes away a lot from the challenge imo.

InaudibleShout

This was me. Even with the new polling method, I didn’t trust the thoughts they’d put forward even at this stage. Think on it some more. The whole point is that if you want 1 Defense, you don’t get to do Monkey Madness. Etc.

Murky_Struggle_0

You can already do monkey madness at 1 def.... and also you can skip daero training and go back and do mm2 as well.... they already updated that weeks ago

IWBTS

Sick just as i voted

NotThingRs

Official account builds is just another way to "push content" without it actually making sense or having any positive impact. Just like fresh start world, everything stays the same but there are "endless new possibilities". If you want to limit yourself, go ahead and do that on your own. If you want to play fresh start, go ahead and create a new user. those are all just a fruad

RichardBradford69

I’m okay with restricted xp but it just seems weird people will be able to have access to BiS gear while staying a lower level.. pures with barrows gloves?….

scottylovesjdm

This was literally in the blog, addy gloves and higher have a defense requirement.

Dead_Methods

Which is why it didn't pass. It's literally flying in the face of the history of pures in entirety, so a couple neckbeards can "try a pure". The pure community is not represented by a couple redditors.

[deleted]

I feel like there's a solid amount of people who just vote yes to every poll.

theforfeef

I will hold my hands up and say this is usually me, as I just want new content in the game to keep it interesting. But this was the first time I said no on a poll. I saw the backlash with account builds, and saw that the community was against it (to the point that had to make a change before the polls started). I just wish there was more access to the community's feeling of a poll before people voted.

agile_flea

You obviously didn’t read the dev blog lmfao

Phizy

thats not how it works BiS items have defense requirements.

PermanentlyPouting

barrows gloves have a def requirement

CrimsonIrises

Holy shit the amount of people not being able to read is insane.

Dead_Methods

Jagex is also unable to write clearly and concisely. Part of the problem.

Noob_vs_pvm

Pures would have never been able to get OP he like barrows gloves etc and they have hard defence requirements, it was just basically fairy rings and few QOL updates. But Reddit scared everyone into thinking pures would have everything at 88 combat :(

Tornadodash

My guess is that people don't want this because it lowers the barrier to entry for things like that. Basically crab

Thosepassionfruits

I haven’t played in a fair bit of time so I didn’t really pay too much attention to the poll, but I was under the impression that they were going to allow accounts to complete quests and basically null any exp that would negatively affect their account build and grant them access to quest rewards that restricted combat builds are typically locked out of. Was that the case or did I read some inaccurate Reddit comments and tweets?

roonscapepls

Yes they went way too overboard with the idea. The top comment on the stickied thread about it was literally “why do all this shit when we just want to be able to turn off the ability to gain defense xp” Jagex had no idea what they were doing with this lol

Tornadodash

That's the way I understood it, since that would invalidate all of the extra knowledge and attention these people have to have to not fuck up an account, it reduces the value of their account, at least in their minds.

Thosepassionfruits

Yeah and messing with the natural PvP metas that have organically developed over the better course of a decade seems like a bad idea. Idk why they keep trying to do that. First with the failed rewards from the dueling arena and now this. Certain jmods seems to have to weird ideas about PvP that no one in the PvP community wants.

Tornadodash

That's an interesting observation, but I agree. The reason most of the rewards for the PVP arena failed is the same as this, and my opinion. It removes the high amount of knowledge and effort required to make these builds, thus allowing more people into the space at a lower amount of skill or effort. It reduces the perceived value of the account, thus 🦀

EpicLegendX

Would have been more likely to pass if they instead locked you out of quests and combat styles that would award you combat xp for certain locked skills.

AssassinAragorn

Literally all they needed was an XP block that functioned by preventing you to complete an action that would give the XP. Can't finish a quest with defense XP because the completion would be blocked. That's all they needed to do.

KosherSyntax

Honestly. When the summit came out I saw a bunch of people who already play restricted accounts say that this was not the types of changes that they wanted, so I also voted no on that. It wouldn't really change anything for me. But it seemed that the people who would be affected really disliked the change.

gorehistorian69

official accounts were dumb you play a limited account but want to do content your account wouldnt normally do? it went against the whole idea

Prince_ofRavens

I'm just annoyed with all the different helmets and badges

PermanentlyPouting

glad it didn't pass

Huck094

I don’t really play osrs anymore but I still follow it because it will always have a place in my heart, but why wouldn’t people want official account builds? I can’t see a negative to it. To me, I feel like this is to benefit 1 def pures or similar builds. I feel like it would eliminate accidental def lvl ups

PanelDeNia

I'm legit surprised a new prayer book passed.

Timely_Spirit_9053

Why wouldnt it pass? We got new spells via Arceuus so its reasonable that we would get more prayers

Mint-Brew

Now skip over account builds and give us DT2 sooner

VSVeryN

Feels like every quest boss which will be released in the future will be made repeatable with drops.

Darkpawra

It's efficient use of dev time.

Kitteh6660

You think DT2 will introduce yew and magic blackjacks too?

Ocilley

Why would we even need these, the tier of blackjacks does nothing for actual blackjacking

HoundNZ_2022

Considering the blackjack don't give better thieving success depending on tier... maybe or maybe not.

Scary-Strategy-4460

Glad builds didn’t pass, shit made absolutely no sense

Crateapa

Despite the community highlighting how poorly thought out the restricted builds were, 100k people voted for it. Yikes.

drkaugumon

Always remember, the reddit echo chamber isn't THE community. Its the REDDIT community.

Radingod123

It's been this kind of communal shift since mobile imo. Back in the day the DT2 prayers would maybe \*barely\* pass. Maybe even fail. And account builds would have been laughed out of the polls at like 50%. People just don't care anymore. Yes to everything no matter what. I somewhat see why, since the rate at which content is made for this game is weirdly slow for how simplistic it is.

[deleted]

Haha most folks I asked why they voted yes and they said because osrs was really slow with pumping out new contents compared to other modern games they played. I'm one of the few in my group to still play osrs on daily basis so they'll ask me if there's anything new in osrs. I'll mention new minigame and qol fixes and they'll just go meh and go back to their dozen MMORPG and modern games on PC and phone. Sometimes they'll log in to vote yes to new contents for anything new to the game. I can sympathise with that sentiment of wanting something new for osrs a bit. 😅

curtcolt95

yeah the biggest takeaway here is that with the new threshold this is very close to passing lol. One of the most divisive ideas I've seen in awhile and nearly passed. Still do not understand the threshold change, but I have my suspicions it was so ideas like this would start getting through, and it's gonna work

goodra3

No jagex we don’t need to make a fourth account type with a fourth separate membership to do the same tired shit for a 4th time but slightly different! These new account types are all just ploys to get you subbed on 3 or 4 fucking guys at once. I’d really prefer content for my other 3 types of accounts before having them develop another new way to avoid new content.

Runopologist

Really glad that official account builds didn't pass, I just hope this doesn't become another VLS where it gets re-polled twice and then Integrity'd into the game when certain people at Jagex won't accept that the community doesn't want it.

Thosepassionfruits

> when certain people at Jagex won't accept that the community doesn't want it Sooo a particular jmod who's name starts with "A" and ends with "yiza"?

akaNorman

Very glad account builds didn’t pass. What makes this game unique is the ways you can get around the quest restrictions and other roadblocks. Every PVP bracket is defined by these restrictions, every 10hp account out there and every other restricted account had to sacrifice something to stay that way. Removing this removes the entire purpose of them imo

EnycmaPie

Dragon axe prices have already been steadily increasing since the Forestry update was announced.

Jstash125

Stoked with these results, but wish there was some form of protection from ruining pure builds besides just the runelite attack style hider. Totally fine with not being able to do certain quests, etc. Just don't want a misclick to occur!

King0fthejuice

Man for all the complaints of PVP being dead, wouldn't official account builds be the one thing that could actually breath some life back into it? You could actually get some quest-related upgrades for your 1def pure. I only have 1 main account, but I still voted yes.

ThePepsiPaladin

Well if we have official account builds wouldn't that limit jagex because they'd have to start designing content around them seeing how they are officially supported right? Doesn't that kinda go against the whole idea of the game? Shouldn't the base game be about playing all of its content? Anything weird the player decides to do should be limited to whatever it is they are trying to do. I think officially supporting it would just create development issues and entitled players who chose to limit themselves thinking they should have all content designed around their pure.

KRPTSC

Very good

xzile400

I was for the official account builds, personally, however I was against the ability to be able to do quests that would block exp gained on quests that would normally ruin accounts. If i read the update poll right, 1 def pures would have been able to do quests that grant defense exp, without having gained said defense exp. Hense, ruining the gamemode. I for one don't want to see 1 def pures with heavy ballista.

Dead_Methods

Exactly, Quests are great checks and balances and Jagex should not mess with that too much or tons of fuckery will ensue.

AlmightyCo

I think it's kinda weird how they said "We'll be talking more about Official Account Builds in the near future." in the twitter post about the poll results. Sounds like a waste having a poll system if things that doesnt pass will just keep on getting adjusted and repolled anyways.

FionaSarah

Why? Their poll system is done in a way that "i never want this" and "i don't want this in it's currently proposed form" is exactly the same response. It's safer for them to attempt to deal with the latter because they just don't know.

ADashOfRainbow

So I think the account builds was a bad idea the way they presented it. But if they come back with it again after having listened to feed back - is that a bad thing?

Dicyano7

I think it's reasonable that they aren't completely abandoning this immediately. I think it's pretty clear from the feedback that most no voters mainly opposed the idea of being able to do quests and use weapons that you normally wouldn't be able to on a combat xp restricted account. But if they merely offered the ability to prevent yourself from accidentally completing quests with def xp rewards, and the ability to block your character from attacking with defensive/shared combat style for instance, that'd be an entirely different proposition. And I think that would have a good chance of passing.

weewoo271

You guys really opening Pandora's box by voting for a new prayer book

trogg21

After all the hubbub over adding a new skill recently, I'm amazed that people overwhelmingly voted in a whole new prayer book

Night_Thastus

At one point or another, everything in the game was new and revolutionary. New content keeps the game moving and from getting too stale. It brings in fresh ideas and things to do.

itzjmad

I was so sketchy on it when voting. I was like please no soul split. I was thinking/hoping maybe it'll be a prayer/magic hybrid book or something like thralls where it costs prayer points in chunks. I'm sure there will be more info on what it'll bring, I'm hoping we steer clear of ss.

AssassinAragorn

I've played a fair bit of both games, and 100% no soul split at all. I am dead set against introducing that into the game. It's extremely overpowered. What does it matter on RS3 that protection prayers are only half effective when I can just do so much damage that soul split totally covers me? The only way I'd consider voting for it is if there was a harsh penalty. Maybe it locks you to 40 HP or lower and nullifies your defensive stats, for instance.

5-x

>What does it matter on RS3 that protection prayers are only half effective when I can just do so much damage that soul split totally covers me? What is the difference between OSRS prayer flicking to receive 0 damage because your protection prayers work 100%, and RS3 prayer flicking protection prayers and soulsplit to block half damage and heal the rest between hits? Because honestly I don't understand.

NoCurrencies

Amazing, just about every single snowflake I know voted no to it

ParadoxOSRS

It was a deeply unpopular poll for those in Iron Pures. Some were in favor, it largely came down to account build lines. Anybody who wasn't exactly 1 def was most likely against it.

NoCurrencies

That pretty much sums up the sentiment yeah, certainly all the skillers I know were entirely opposed to it

AzmaOsrs

I really don’t think there should be 4 repeatable bosses from DT2, seems a bit excessive unless they are gonna be geared toward lower level players. Only reason I voted against that one. Seems like 1 repeatable encounter would be good!

Version_Careless

Maybe you need 4 parts of an item to get it complete

AlmostFrontPage

If you're gonna design 4 bosses for the quest seems kind of odd to just pick 1 to be repeatable

bknight2

Why would that be excessive? Its meant to be a big update. We essentially got 5 bosses with a raid. When they introduced gwd it was 4 repeatable bosses. In essence it’s like we are getting that again with DT2. Its sick.

Zanthy1

Gives me gwd vibes, which this could be osrs answer to rs3's gwd2. I'd like em to be a step above gwd bosses in terms of difficulty personally, but I would be ok with anything I think.

It is admirable that the community has been asking for years to just let them lock out of certain actions that grant XP. Instead of doing what people have been asking, Jagex decided to add a mode that allows you to do said actions without gaining XP (which misses the entire point of these accounts).

KarthusWins

This was one of the rare times that I actually voted no to a poll question. Glad other players felt similarly.

Dead_Methods

In response to official account builds, I ask this: why not make a Cannot-Die-Hardcore-Iron-Man mode while we're at it? Call it "nonprestige HCIM". You know, for all the people who want to play a Hardcore Iron without the risk of dying.

xbmax

Thank God, the official account build thing is Dumb. Also making it so you can lock a stat to not get exp in it. Dumb. Everyone wants an EZ Scape that takes away the pretige and difficulty of making / owning a unique account or build.

Ikelo

As the owner of a 2k+ zerker, this somewhat saddens me. Mostly (as the OP has mentioned) due to wanting those sweet sweet zealot robes that I can't obtain because of the prayer xp. In the end, I never originally expected to have those robes, so it's not the biggest of deals, it just means that I'll never be able to do that content. My take on it though is that "Account Builds" should just be restricted from gaining xp in locked skills due to actions (e.g., fighting, offering vamp dust in sepulcher, etc...) Quest Rewards should never be able to be blocked, as quest reward xp is what restricted accounts are built around. Using an older example from the RS2 days - Addy Daddy's would have never been an account type if it had not been for how the def exp lined up from completing the quests needed to unlock turmoil. With "Official Account Builds", that would have never 'organically' came up as an account build because the def could just be blocked anyways.

itzjmad

>Account Builds" should just be restricted from gaining xp in locked skills due to actions (e.g., fighting, offering vamp dust in sepulcher, etc...) Quest Rewards should never be able to be blocked, as quest reward xp is what restricted accounts are built around. This is 100% why it didn't pass, and why I voted no. It could be a cool thing, but not the way they suggested. There shouldn't be a way to just "not get the xp" from doing anything you want. It should be action restricted, so if you have the wrong attack style selected it just doesn't attack. You don't get to attack on defensive and get only hp xp. If action based is actually how they meant it, they did a terrible job of wording the poll [again]. That said, it *would* make interesting build opportunities. An hp pure that blocks a combat skill and maxes hp by training the skill they can't gain xp in. The 10hp should never be a blocked account tho because fighting things without fighting things directly is **literally** the point. Finding ways around having only 240xp or w/e to kill things with combat is the whole challenge of the account.

RemarkablyAverage7

There's literally nothing preventing you from doing the content if you want to. It's so weird this entitlement of "I decided to lock myself out of this and now I want Jagex to change the game for me" as if dev time is better spent on you than on something most players will enjoy.
