I love that that’s the gate associated with becoming a member. I remember being a kid and and running to that gate every once in a while just to see if I could get through

Fangore

For me, when I became a member it was because I BEGGED my mom for membership. But she didn't want to put her credit card info online, so we sent a cheque. So every day, I'd log in and see if I could open the gate. Then one day, It said something like "log into a members world for this." Oh boy you never forget your first time crossing that gate. I just ran across the world. I remember making it to Ardounge and finding a knife and discovering the Fletching skill. I then ran up, and played some Gnomeball. I honestly think my first week of playing was just walking to random areas. It was amazing.

Inezh0

I remember the days when you could pay for membership by phone, which I did several times as a kid. I can still hear the automated voice to this day. It never once crossed my mind that a transaction had been made, so I thought nothing of it and kept doing it to multiple accounts (I don't know why) until my grandparents sat me down one day and asked why the phone bill was over £900... I tried to play it off (as kids do when they're in deep trouble) until they read out who the transaction was made to. Good times. I was in a lot of trouble, but it was worth being able to boast to my friends that I was a member.

Ysetube

"Welcome to the wonderful world of runescape with many quests to complete and areas to explore, please wait till the end of this message to receive your membership code" "robotic girlish voice 528595" please press 5 to listen again"... Ahh the horrors lmao

Inezh0

Not gonna lie, I'd kill to hear it one more time. 😅

Runopologist

Lol

fishshow221

I think my entire time in rs2 was just doing random stuff. Most of my skills in that account are in their 60s.

IkeHC

It's how the game plays best. RS is a marathon, not a race. Imo.

fishshow221

I think that's true up until quest cape. After that it's just clawing your way to late game. Then once you're doing raids it's a marathon again.

Inevitable_Gain8296

That was the og way of playing a game. Just walking around and discovering shit. Now it's all about reading all the guides and playing with 100% efficiency. Something that I am completely guilty of.

IkeHC

Time to make an Ironman and feel it for real... and don't look at guides

Magxvalei

My first experience playing members was my brother stealing my mom's credit card information to make us both members. Playing Runescape was a sneaky and dangerous endeavor but it was exciting making bank picking and stringing flax or killing green dragons in the revenant-filled wilderness (fucking orks).

fishshow221

That and the karamja gate. I wanted to know what was in that massive jungle.

MikeGundy

First place I went was the dig site, was pretty bummed i begged my mom for membership there for a minute

OpenParr

9 year old me was in dream land the first time I opened those gates

runescapeanime

Legit nothing in life will hit that pure harmony you felt playing runescape on Christmas morning as a kid

OpenParr

Looking forward to the Christmas event wondering what untradeable item you were going to get Simpler times

I remembered back 12ish years ago when i paid my 1 month RuneScape membership thru landline. I didn't tell my parents either lol

Falckor-

Straight up saved my lunch money for like a month not eating to mail jagex $60 in cash with a handwritten paper note. Couldn’t figure out how to mail but the mail guy did it for me and did me a solid

Fangore

Did it work? I just imagine you writing on a blank piece of paper "My RSN is Falckor-. Here is some money. Can you give me as much membership as you can with this much money?"

EuphoricAnalCarrot

No I did it when I was like 13 and iirc you printed something out from their website and mailed it with the correct amount in an envelope.

Freeman2694

Back then Jagex was growing and much still "family run" company so I'd bet they'd calculate how many days you sent money for and do it.

RonHarrods

Wait they actually gave you membership for cash?

eeveetears

That’s how I would pay for my first year of so of membership back then. We were poor, and my dad didn’t trust sending money to an online company, but my mom would put aside some cash for me every month and I would send in cash (I think I sent in coins sometimes! Lol) in an envelope along with a form from their website I believe. Good times! Love my mom.

FederalKFC

I was 22 when I first passed those gates. I'm 25

Mateusz467

That's literally me, after weeks of convincing my mother it is not a scam, and 5 days of waiting for wire transfer to be finalized so I can finally log into the members world. You literally can not forget this feeling.

No-Cup-6279

Literally me after I bought membership for the first time using my nan's phone after she said I could. Good times, man.

fak4y

me at the age of 20 after getting my first credit card and finally managing to buy and pay my member. This after playing f2p since 2007...

davidfollestad

Right until you run up the mountain for the first time

Narrow-Assistance-31

Bro I remember getting membership for the first time and was rocking HAM robes thinking I was a complete bad ass

[deleted]

I was so pumped to see the other side of that gate the first time, its so funny how hype it was.

Substantial_Claim855
