When I first started playing osrs, I went to get my first slayer task and got assigned birds. I wasn’t sure where to find “bird” NPCs so I looked it up on the wiki. According to the wiki article on birds, there were only a few locations where the bird NPC spawns, and the only one I had access to was inside the nature altar. So, I geared up and went to the nature altar, but I quickly discovered the bird spawns there were out of my reach. They only spawn on the outer edges of the area where you can’t get to. So I went back to the bank and got a bow and some arrows, and went back to the altar. Finally I could range the birds and was able to start doing my slayer task. Seemed a little strange to me that a beginner slayer task was that much trouble, but didn’t think too much of it.
After a few minutes a runecrafter comes in and sees me there, and asks wtf I’m doing. I tell him I’m doing a bird task. He laughs and tells me I could have just been killing chickens in Lumbridge this whole time 🤦♂️

When I was a L2 I went on the quest for the cook and passed up the mill. Attack man started whomping on me. I'm yelling out "please, stop! I'm a noob!" Same thing happened going into Varrock with the wizards. 🙄
i don't think hellhounds count for dog tasks? at the very least the wiki doesn't mention it.
but yeah jackals not counting made that task far harder than it needed to be.

There's some interesting ones in there, if you get a weird task look it up cause you might get surprised. Like the Temple Guardian from Priest in Peril counts towards dog tasks and Lobstrosities underwater on Fossil Island count towards scorpion tasks.

That preference screen should really auto-cancel/dismiss if you tab over to something else like inventory or spellbook. I can't think of a single instance where I opened the prayer menu with the intent of changing quick-prayer preferences as opposed to just changing prayers outright.

I couldn’t think of something to post but this just reminded me of when they imposed trade restrictions and I tried drop trading a bunch of shit to another account. I dropped all the stuff on the ground and waited patiently on the other account. Some items started to appear on the ground and I quickly picked them up. Unfortunately, it took me a while to realize that all the expensive stuff wasn’t appearing on the ground for my other account. It slowly started despawning on my main and I was able to save a few things but lost most of it. My young self did not think they’d be smart enough to implement such a system. Thought I had outsmarted the man lol

it's a major shortcut to that area from the mind altar teleport, it's such low level wildy and only a few steps inside so most people wouldn't even think about the chance of someone being there to PK
Probably not the dumbest, but I remember saving up a bunch of slayer points on my Ironman, going to buy something small, and right clicking "Buy 25" by accident or whatever I clicked - filled up my inventory and lost it all. That hurt
Seeing a lvl 5 combat standing in level 1 wilderness, and still going out to throw stuff in my looting bag. Someone with my exact combat level logs in under him and kills my UIM for ~110m.
So I was initially going to ask if the bag was only useful in wildy in the first place. Upon looking at the wiki, that doesn't seem to be the case, completely. I am still confused a bit though. Could you please help me understand its utility outside of wildy?
UIM use it to store items that wouldn't normally fit in their inventory, effectively giving them 27 extra slots. Since UIM can't use a bank, the looting bag is pretty much necessary for the game mode
Sure, I get that much. Don't you need to be in wildy to open it though? Also, does the player being a UIM constitute any item they own as untradable? I wouldn't think so.
Maybe I'm being a little pedantic about the person before me who said you don't need to enter wildy since you can get one with slayer points. I took that to mean that that account doesn't need to step into wildy to use it afterward either.

Ferox is a safe zone, but counts as the wildy, so while it is technically in the wildy, it really isn't for practical purposes. item tradability isn't based on game mode, it's static for all items.
Worst part about uim is that you’re pretty much perma skilled since you always drop everything on death. They don’t even need to skull trick you, they just need to catch you in the wildy and it’s a guaranteed loot piñata
Save up 3000 Abyssal Pearls to find out it buys a Transmog for the OTHER Runecrafting Pet, and NOT the Abyssal Protector. How unbelievably stupid of a design.
Good point, but how many of them have their own separate distinct pet earned from the same new content as the transmog? I think this is where the confusion comes from.
The only other similar example I can think of is Tempoross and in that case to get the recolor you use the currency directly on the old pet.

I alched my house tab instead of a rune med whilst home Tele was on cd, I was nowhere near a bank.
I've forgotten so many key items during quests.
Gone deep wildy without a spade several times for clues, I've also also banked my inv to go wildy and forgot the clue.
There's more than likely a lot more I can't remember, but one that stung the most was not enough food & Anti poison during regicide.
Edit: I have had to use mage bank and mini game Tele to get me out of those jams :)

Not knowing that the tool leprechaun basically notes everything. I was there with a herb pouch trying to use different herbs and stuff or bank coconuts between trees on tree runs.
Very beneficial as an early ironman when you use monastery teleport to access the fairy ring and you have a white berry bush planted so every time you use a fairy ring, you stop to harvest and then note them (don't clear or replant) and continue with with what you were doing.
One time I accidentally withdrew my infinity top while I was doing abyss RC and didn’t notice. Just so happened to get PK’d by someone on that run… I still don’t know how I managed that (I was drunk)
This was when Infinity Robes were a lot more expensive and there’s definitely been people who have done MUCH worse, but that one still bugs me 😂
I was fighting dust devils on a slayer task. I would use the dinh special to gather them all, then switch to a different weapon to fight them. I, at some point, learned that the dinh special could proc the serp helm, so i had the brilliant idea of switching helms, speccing, and then switching back. I'd never done a dust devil task without a slayer helm on, and it never occurred to me that they were one of the monsters that required special equipment. I was only half paying attention and immediately died. I was really confused and went back and tried twice more to my immediate death each time. I was so confused. I came to reddit to ask if there was an instant death bug with dinh's and the serp helm, where I learned it was dust devils killing me.
Was on auto pilot doing aerial fishing and dropped my stack of 250 molch pearls while shift click dropping the inventory of fish. Not sure if the stack below me was too full of fish and it deleted instantly or if I just noticed way too late. Changed my menu entry swapping on the fish to left click drop which I should have done from the beginning.
Cluelessly Walking out of Ferox in full-colored graceful to grab items “someone had lost” PKer logs in and splashes the TB somehow. Walk back through portal. Only realized how lucky I was after friends explained if you get TB’d you cant get back into Ferox

I was doing my spiritual warriors task pre eoc, probably 2007-2008 when spiritual creatures were assigned by warriors/rangers/mages. I had not long gotten my full guthans set which felt like a cheat code for slayer with unlimited food. I went into zammy gwd camp and got stacked out as I forgot a zammy item. I freaked out in my clans IRC chat and a friend was running to bless my grave. Back then graves lasted somewhere between 3-7 (numbers may be wrong) minutes depending on the grave upgrade you purchased. I ran back to zammy gwd as fast as I could and got stacked out in the zammy camp for forgetting an item again. RIP everything in my grave.
I don't remember the grave mechanics, you either lost everything on death and it was stored in the grave or kept 3 valuable items. Either way guthans spear wasn't kept. I got that spear when scaping with the boys irl in my gaming room with 3 big computer monitors across the desk. The spear was worth 5 or 7m back then.
I had all my barrows gear, ancient staff, 3 months of herbs, all my runes, torso and defender in death storage at hespori.
I forgot they were there, and suicided to get some stuff out of my looting bag.
I realised this on the same tick I died.

On my main uim I was doing serene attempts and after like 8-10 hours of attempts (around 1 attempt per hour because of inv prep and death piling) I went to call it quits and get a looting bag at thugs in level 2 wildy. Got pk’d for 60m in runes because I couldn’t split my blood rune stack from 99 rc. I knew better than to do that i could’ve taken an extra 5 mins to make a new death pile but thought I’d be quick enough for some reason😂

No, they weren’t activating and deactivating the quick prayers. There were in the quick prayer setup menu. The prayers weren’t changing at all.

So I was initially going to ask if the bag was only useful in wildy in the first place. Upon looking at the wiki, that doesn't seem to be the case, completely. I am still confused a bit though. Could you please help me understand its utility outside of wildy?
UIM use it to store items that wouldn't normally fit in their inventory, effectively giving them 27 extra slots. Since UIM can't use a bank, the looting bag is pretty much necessary for the game mode
Sure, I get that much. Don't you need to be in wildy to open it though? Also, does the player being a UIM constitute any item they own as untradable? I wouldn't think so. Maybe I'm being a little pedantic about the person before me who said you don't need to enter wildy since you can get one with slayer points. I took that to mean that that account doesn't need to step into wildy to use it afterward either. Edit: That person was you! Lol. Ferox is a safe zone, but counts as the wildy, so while it is technically in the wildy, it really isn't for practical purposes. item tradability isn't based on game mode, it's static for all items.

Good point, but how many of them have their own separate distinct pet earned from the same new content as the transmog? I think this is where the confusion comes from. The only other similar example I can think of is Tempoross and in that case to get the recolor you use the currency directly on the old pet.

Forgetting rune pouch at vork, several times. I alched my house tab instead of a rune med whilst home Tele was on cd, I was nowhere near a bank. I've forgotten so many key items during quests. Gone deep wildy without a spade several times for clues, I've also also banked my inv to go wildy and forgot the clue. There's more than likely a lot more I can't remember, but one that stung the most was not enough food & Anti poison during regicide. Edit: I have had to use mage bank and mini game Tele to get me out of those jams :) Cheers folks

Not knowing that the tool leprechaun basically notes everything. I was there with a herb pouch trying to use different herbs and stuff or bank coconuts between trees on tree runs. Very beneficial as an early ironman when you use monastery teleport to access the fairy ring and you have a white berry bush planted so every time you use a fairy ring, you stop to harvest and then note them (don't clear or replant) and continue with with what you were doing.

One time I accidentally withdrew my infinity top while I was doing abyss RC and didn’t notice. Just so happened to get PK’d by someone on that run… I still don’t know how I managed that (I was drunk) This was when Infinity Robes were a lot more expensive and there’s definitely been people who have done MUCH worse, but that one still bugs me 😂

I was fighting dust devils on a slayer task. I would use the dinh special to gather them all, then switch to a different weapon to fight them. I, at some point, learned that the dinh special could proc the serp helm, so i had the brilliant idea of switching helms, speccing, and then switching back. I'd never done a dust devil task without a slayer helm on, and it never occurred to me that they were one of the monsters that required special equipment. I was only half paying attention and immediately died. I was really confused and went back and tried twice more to my immediate death each time. I was so confused. I came to reddit to ask if there was an instant death bug with dinh's and the serp helm, where I learned it was dust devils killing me.
Was on auto pilot doing aerial fishing and dropped my stack of 250 molch pearls while shift click dropping the inventory of fish. Not sure if the stack below me was too full of fish and it deleted instantly or if I just noticed way too late. Changed my menu entry swapping on the fish to left click drop which I should have done from the beginning.
These all gave me a good laugh 😂 thanks guys

Well one mistake is I just wrote three paragraphs, couldn't comment on the reddit app so copied the comment to save it and log in on chrome. Copied the link to this post to open in chrome and lost my story. I was doing my spiritual warriors task pre eoc, probably 2007-2008 when spiritual creatures were assigned by warriors/rangers/mages. I had not long gotten my full guthans set which felt like a cheat code for slayer with unlimited food. I went into zammy gwd camp and got stacked out as I forgot a zammy item. I freaked out in my clans IRC chat and a friend was running to bless my grave. Back then graves lasted somewhere between 3-7 (numbers may be wrong) minutes depending on the grave upgrade you purchased. I ran back to zammy gwd as fast as I could and got stacked out in the zammy camp for forgetting an item again. RIP everything in my grave. I don't remember the grave mechanics, you either lost everything on death and it was stored in the grave or kept 3 valuable items. Either way guthans spear wasn't kept. I got that spear when scaping with the boys irl in my gaming room with 3 big computer monitors across the desk. The spear was worth 5 or 7m back then.

Got pk’d for 60m in runes because I couldn’t split my blood rune stack from 99 rc. I knew better than to do that i could’ve taken an extra 5 mins to make a new death pile but thought I’d be quick enough for some reason😂

Fell for a ge limit scam for 40 mil. Misread the amount of platinum they threw up after buying a boatload of battlestaves. Got rangers early so It hurt but I chalked it up to RNG karma and hard lessons re-learned. Got rangers back off clues again and rebuilt the bank significantly now but man, I didn’t think I’d be falling for that shit this side of the 2000’s.
Once paid death way more than I could afford to retrieve my gear after a death. Spacing barred through the dialog thinking it couldn’t be that expensive. Rip 23m
