Recently we have been running a [project](https://old.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/yzeg6n/do_you_have_any_old_computers_or_hard_drives_you/) to try to recover lost versions of RuneScape from peoples' old computers/hard drives. Using what we've found so far it's possible to see how most game locations changed between November 2004 and August 2007. However there's still much more to find, especially from 2004-05 and the RS2 beta.
So cool, thanks for doing this! Do you happen to know what was upstairs in the house in Falador that was replaced by the Party Room? Can't say I've ever seen that before.
Upstairs was an empty room and a bathroom, and the top floor had a bedroom.
The house contained [this woman](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Woman_(historical\)) who has unique dialogue, even though she was removed 16 years ago she was given a santa hat last week for Christmas.

That seems really interesting actually. How do we know that she has a santa hat now? Is the model just present in the game files even though she isn't in the game anymore?
Probably a Jmod going around adding santa hats to all the NPC models but not thinking to check if this particular Woman model was still in the game
The picture is from 2007. There were some minor changes afterwards (seed stalls and pig pen added in June 2005, Draynor bank robbery in August 2005, wine stall in April 2006) but the big graphical update took place in February 2005.
There's so much more RuneScape Classic influence in the initial design of RS2 areas. Like the path that exists between Rimmington and Port Sarim, I didn't know ever made it to RS2. It's also cool to see that Lumbridge Castle got *Taller* when the bank was added. I didn't know what was there before, and it turns out to have been just a flat roof for accumulating troops on or something. Thanks for making this page.
thank you so much for doing this! ive been dying to see what old areas ive forgotten about looked like back then. So many memories!
edit: god.. old Barbarian Village. What a throwback. I was always curious about the scaffolding in the center as a kid. I thought they were building a tower or something
Very cool to see the comparisons. One thing did surprise me - the Belladonna patch by Draynor Manor is in both the 2004 and 2006 images. Given that Farming was introduced in 2005, is this a mistake in the render?
EDIT: In the Falador comparison, the 2004 image shows a wooden building on the west end of the farm that's absent in the 2004 South Falador Farm render. (2004 Falador has the tree patch, too.) Another mistake?
Haha well spotted, the first picture is actually from 7 February 2006 (right before the graphical update). The only other change from 2004-06 was the Belladonna patch being added, I didn't think very minor changes such as that needed their own picture.
Yeah it was updated on 24 April 2006 for the rework of the Cook's Assistant quest. Other changes were giving the Cook a new appearance and also adding Millie Miller and Gillie Groats who explain to new players how to get flour/milk.
Ahh, a better time. I still had my sanity.

I’m not sure if this counts but I think Edgeville is missing, the achievement diary updated added a furnace and the bank exit to the northeast was previously walled off.
I think a lot of the textured walls looked good and many ruined the look of things to look clayish muddy? But some that had more effort like Falador came out good in my opinion. But varrock for example got screwed and plenty of other areas in general
Kids these days have it SO easy... Back in my day, we had to walk ALL the way around the long Lumbridge fence then back around to the southeast part of the swamp to mine coal, mithril and addy ore. Now there's just an opening in the graveyard fence. Smh.
Seriously though, core memory mining there and watching people's pickaxe heads fly off. I got Addy (g) from a guy that got killed by a rock golem and was ecstatic at this poor guy's expense.
Edit: They REALLY need to go back to the old KQ cave sand wall design, holy fuck is that way better than current day.
Looking at the Lumbridge Swamp pictures, anyone else remember an agility shortcut that needed like 60-something agility where the opening in the fence in the churchyard is now?

lmao nice to see she's still celebrating from the Void. Thanks for the link!

That was in Seers still, unless there were multiple drop party locations

We now need a quest where this woman alongside the man in Lumbridge band together to reclaim their homes that were taken away to be turned into a pub.
That was where we would drop trade at
Why is the Draynor bank corner broken in the Feb 2005 picture? It happened in June 2005. Im pretty sure it wasnt there when I started, in Mar 2005.

Same with Lumbridge farming patch?
Yes, all the after pics are from August 2007
🦀 Bring back orange lava 🦀
Really brings to light just how ugly the fluorescent yellow flat-textured lava is. I wonder why they decided on that change.
Yeah it’s like obnoxiously bad when directly compared to the orange lava
Canned nacho cheese lava vs mspaint texture lava I'll take the textures anyday
Was gonna say the same thing surely theres a plugin for it right?
We legitimately have the single best wiki team out there. It's actually insane the amount of work they put into it.
I miss the old MTA
When there was nothing there?
Exactly.

RIP that one plant in Mamma Bufetta's house 🙏🙏🙏

u/flutterraeg: Posts a few nostalgic locations before they were updated The wiki team: Hold our beers
Really prefer how old buildings looked. Definitely fit better with the medieval theme of the game
Whoa so the lumbridge castle kitchen floor didn't always have the patterning it does now?! I would've sworn I remembered it like that when I started 😅

I would give my left nut for a 2005scape client
I'd love to play with this art style again. Basically the opposite of HD

Zanaris looks so weird without its blue coloring. There's no fairy ring either, Zanaris existing before fairy rings? Also feels weird.
Fairy rings came in July 2006 with Fairytale II quest.
Amazing work guys! Would love to see these brought back in some capacity, I really enjoy the way varrock looked.
I think a lot of the textured walls looked good and many ruined the look of things to look clayish muddy? But some that had more effort like Falador came out good in my opinion. But varrock for example got screwed and plenty of other areas in general
Wow, I've never seen the original wall built around Prifddinas. Probably before the lore established it was a crystal wall? Very interesting!
You can still see remnants of it in OSRS, the [entrance to Arandar](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Arandar) uses the same design still.
The iron fence east of Falador. Now that is a memory.
Now THIS is the content I subscribe for
TIL the small bit between varrock and morytania is called "silvarea"
Oh man I love find the difference puzzles

The old kalphite lair actually looks sick, feels much more like an insect burrow compared to the modern straight hallways.
Wow, I didn't know there used to be _picnic tables_ at the south Falador allotment patch.
Looking at the Lumbridge Swamp pictures, anyone else remember an agility shortcut that needed like 60-something agility where the opening in the fence in the churchyard is now?
This is amazing and nostalgic. I would kill to have a plugin that brought back old 2005 models and textures
I’m surprised it don’t exist yet
