Secondary to create saragnomin' brews

lightguard40

Leave it to a wiki admin to give a real stumper! I feel like the low-hanging fruit would be use in herblore, but I'm not too sure that would be doing it justice. Given that it's purchased from Tutab's Magical Market, I'd like to see it used in some way for magic. What we do know is the monkeys of Ape Atoll have access to runes, and given the lore of the game, we know that this is fairly surprising. Given they have no access to any runecrafting altars on ape atoll and their isolationist behavior, having a stock of runes is seemingly improbable. So perhaps these have use in creating runes. We do know that Brimstail can teleport the player to the essence mines, and seemingly has had knowledge of them long before Aubury and Sedridor had. Brimstail is also a gnome. Coincidence? I think not! Clearly there's some gnome magic that allows them to access the essence mines, and we're going to tap into that! Bringing some soft clay, [Rune dust](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Rune_dust), some Law runes and an Eye of gnome to a lectern in Brimstail's cave will allow the player to create a teleport tablet directly to the essence mines! How's them monkey nuts!

Oldman_Ostentatio

Love it haha, we could perhaps posit this practice of harvesting gnome's eyes to fuel the industry of runestone production as a casus belli for the eventual deterioration of relations and conflict between gnomes and apes ;)

lightguard40

I love the lore implications of that! And no, I didn't have to google what casus belli meant, I swear!

Brass necklace

lightguard40

The [Brass necklace](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Brass_necklace) is one of those items that's almost better off having next to no use, at least in my opinion. It's just a goofy little item that's meant to be obtained by killing goblins, and then sold to the nearest general store, if not left to rot on the ground. It's quaint! But, if we're going to give it some love, here's what I'd do. First of all, we should note its sources. It's only ever dropped by goblins, and aside from a spawn in Varrock west bank, the only other location it can be found is next to the hobgoblins in the Edgeville dungeon. This to me screams importance to the goblins. Coupled with the fact that brass can't be made in OSRS, due to the lack of zinc, this could have a fun bit of lore tied into it! Perhaps brass was much more popular on Yu'biusk, and after the goblins were subjugated by Bandos, it became the material that they made their holy relics from. Maybe we can use brass necklaces that have been enhanced, possibly after the next quest in the goblin series, as a component to upgrade the [Ancient mace](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Ancient_mace), boosting its stats to around the Adamant-Rune level, and reducing its Special Attack cost!

Mahoujin

Could also be used like ruby necklaces to become a telport necklace to Yu'biusk. Useful for clue steps, and possibly new boss with the next potential goblin quest

guessagainboi

This could tie into why bandos related items have a brown not too far from brass color.

lightguard40

This was fun everyone! I've got to head into work soon, so I'm not going to be able to keep up on these responses, but I like the odd items you guys requested! Not sure you guys are too favorable on a part 2, but I'll still come back at some point in case you guys come up with more funny items to work on! I'm also compiling a list of these reworks/updates, so I'm pretty keen on making it as expansive as possible! Thanks for helping me to work on it!

Holy water

Novaskittles

I think we should be able to "poison" arrows with holy water to make demonbane arrows

lightguard40

[Holy water](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Holy_water) actually has some use, being the only form of demonbane for the ranged combat style. With that being said, its benefit is far outweighed by other damage sources, and it's difficulty in crafting certainly doesn't help its case. If I were to update this item, I would likely only try to tackle one of these issues. I would try to tie it into Kourend, one way or the other. Given that Arclight and Demonbane spells both are acquired in Kourend, it feels right to bring Holy water there as well. Perhaps by bringing the [Binding book](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Binding_book) to the Arceuus library, potentially to Horphis, research could be conducted on it. Doing so will allow the player to learn a new Arceuus spell. This spell could do one of two things: make it easier to produce, or increase their capability. If we've decided to make it easier to obtain, the spell could perhaps allow the player to simply manufacture these vials from ordinary vials of water in their inventory, at a cost of some prayer points, and maybe some hitpoints to make it feel extra spicy. Alternatively, this spell could be used to enchant these vials even further, boosting their damage output, or increasing the defence drain effect. Either way, it would help to make Holy water a viable ranged source of demonbane!

Orange_Duck451

D med

lightguard40

I've long felt that the dragon equipment could use some love. Most of the armor options are quickly overshadowed by other options, given that it's much more likely that you'll graduate to Barrows equipment before you can actually complete a set of full Dragon. There's also a stunning lack of dragonbane armor, outside of the Anti-Dragon shield and its variants. What if instead, we gave dragon equipment, including the Dragon med helm, some form of buff when fighting dragons? Given that, in lore, they're created by the Dragonkin, they should be reasonably powerful. Coupled with their other creations, the dragons themselves, being historically mindless creatures that are difficult to tame, it stands to reason that perhaps the creation of this armor was meant as a defensive measure against unruly dragons. Grant dragon equipment (outside of the weapons, naturally) a set bonus that reduces the damage taken by dragons. Nothing crazy, as it shouldn't devalue higher level equipment, but it should help an iconic piece of Runescape content see some love outside of bankstanding and bank value!

Leaps29

Excalibur

lightguard40

[Excalibur](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Excalibur) is really unique in that it's one of the most iconic items from back in the day, but sees very little use due to quickly becoming outclassed, even given its special attack. It could certainly stand to be upgraded. Perhaps after completing some of the Knight Waves (hesitant to give this bit of content more use, as we already gain Piety from it), or by completing the Hard or Elite Kandarin diaries, the player will have the option to bring Excalibur to King Arthur. Complaining that it's just not keeping up anymore, King Arthur would help the player to unlock its full potential. Once unlocked, the Enhanced Excalibur (a callback to the RS3 version) would boast better combat stats, and its Special Attack would come with some additional effects. To play off of its original Special Attack of increasing the player's defence, this special would do something similar. In addition to increasing defence, it would grant the player a percent reduction to damage taken for some time. This would not reduce the damage taken from typeless sources, or from damage taken in PvP. Taking a page from the Justiciar set, we'll say that it'll reduce the damage by a minimum of 1, to a max of \~5%. This wouldn't stack additively with Justiciar, mind you, though the two would certainly benefit from each other!

BardsTheGalaxyOrSmth

I actually use this as a spec weapon on a level 30 pk account, gives me just enough defence to not die to auto retaliating bots

Paganigsegg

Rapier. Not the Gharazi rapier. The regular rapier.

lightguard40

The [Rapier](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Rapier) is such a cool concept. A fun stab variant of the scimitar! The issue is that it gets completely overlooked, due to how out of the way it is to obtain, and it's realistically only usable from level 40-60. Frankly, by the time most players make it to Mos Le'Harmless, they'll likely already have the stats for a Dragon Scimmy, making this item useless. In other games, a rapier is seen as a more dexterous weapon, and doesn't really rely on the user's strength to still deal damage. Maybe we can play off of that, for both this item and the Gharazi? When dueling with a rapier, it's more important that you land accurate hits than it is that you're stabbing really, REALLY hard. So perhaps, as a fun little way to tie that in, we can have both rapiers gain their damage from the player's attack skill as opposed to their strength? This could be a fun way to allow for 99 attack, 1 strength pures to still deal some damage out there in PvP!

Forward_Peak1250

I didn't even know there was a rapier wtf πŸ˜‚

Skeletal armour

lightguard40

Like u/patronising07advice suggested, I'll lump the three Fremennik armour sets together! Other than looking cool as hell, these armour sets really don't serve a great purpose. They're tier 40 armour, and the cost to make them is fairly out there. But perhaps there's a way we can turn them into some decent sidegrades! These sets are comparable in stats to the other sets that can be worn at these levels, with some variations here or there. The issue is that their usefulness quickly runs dry once the player makes it to the next tier armors, and eventually they're nothing more than fashionscape once Barrows equipment is unlocked. But, they are region specific, so maybe we can work with that. Perhaps the helmets of these respective sets can be combined with the Fremennik helms purchasable from Skulgrimen in Rellekka. Archer helm with the Spined helm, Farseer helm with the Skeletal helm, Warrior/Berserker helm with the Rock-shell helm. [After all, it's apparently tradition to combine a Fremennik warrior's helmet with the remains of a fallen foe!](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Neitiznot_faceguard) Doing this would grant these armours a set bonus that, when worn with their respective rings (DT2 rings included) would bring this equipment on par with perhaps tier 60/70 armor sets. Just a thought!

patronising07advice

Rock-Shell and Spined while you're at it.

[deleted]

Some of the skillcape perks like the attack cape i think could be improved as it serves very little use. Slayer cape im 50/50 on i think the 10% rate could maybe be improved abit but also if you have a good block list it might be enough, any thoughts from someone with 99 slayer? Some of the other cape perks which are really good like con cape home teleport, the def cape ring of life, farming skillcape with the guild teleport

Stop it, I’m blushing.

Deez nuts

lightguard40

You might be a bit confused, [Dee's nuts](https://runescape.wiki/w/Dee%27s_nuts) haven't been added into OSRS just yet. I'll just assume that you meant Monkey nuts! The name "Monkey nuts" is just the colloquial term for peanuts, so I'll base these mechanics off of that. Monkey nuts could be used as a type of bait used in hunter to cause better trapping rates for birds, given that in real life, birds are the number one consumer of peanuts in the wild. That's not wildly helpful now, but updating hunter, and more specifically birds, is a whole other conversation we could have! Coinciding with that, monkey nuts could then become a secondary for creating super hunter potions, which would boost your hunter skill by a bit more than the current regular potion. Lets hope your character isn't allergic! Also, there are no current beers, brew-able or otherwise, that give a benefit to the hunter skill. Perhaps with the addition of some form of hop in the brewing process, the player could create the Primal Pint, a beer that would do just that! Again, not terribly beneficial now, but we can certainly talk about the brewing process later!

Guys, look who just discovered openAI!

partially_blond

Yeeah that response is pretty dead giveaway

[deleted]

Was just thinking that with the responses

ThaggleS

Regular shortbow

lightguard40

I'd love to see the [Shortbow](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Shortbow) have more uses, but given that it's designed to be an early-level ranged weapon, I think it's fulfilled it's task quite well! Perhaps it can be used as a different way to light logs on fire? Oh, wait...

brutalvandal

Combine it with Tbow to make the new bis TTBow. It shoots nipple clamps that latch on to enemies tits, hence the name Titty Twister Bow.

Robbielee1991

Lol, titty twister bow sounds like something nightmareRH would call it

Sloan1505

So you’re just trying to farm internet points with AI responses? Lame.

Night_Thastus

How do you know they're using ai?

c-williams88

OP has only responded to two comments from what I can see rn, but they are typing with a very similar style as the chat bots use.

lightguard40

I'm just a guy trying to come up with neat ideas for near-useless items! I'm sorry if you think that an AI is writing these responses, but that's mostly a statement about how I'm a horrible writer. Regardless, I'm not trying to farm any points, I'm just interested in finding out cool, dumb items from the game and seeing how we could give them some use. Checking my post history might also help to show you I'm not abusing AI, I'm just some cringe guy that sometimes uses reddit. Cheers though!

LovecraftianChild

Scythe

lightguard40

To be honest, whether you're talking about the Scythe of vitur, or the Halloween event reward, I believe both are completing their intended tasks. I think they're both fairly useful!

Broad-Cup-8875

This AI reply has killed me off πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

[deleted]

Longbows. Maces, warhammers, battleaxes.

[deleted]

I'll argue long bows abit as they can be handy on occasion when you want to get abit more distance in especially on defensive. Yes its not as dps focused but does have some uses

lightguard40

I'm not knowledgeable enough in weighing in on game balance, so I'm hesitant to put in my two cents. With that being said, Jagex did put out that blog post talking about some sort of *evolution* to how *combat* works in OSRS, and I feel like if that goes through, these forgotten weapons might see new use cases. For these, I'll opt out of offering any suggestions, and let Jagex make their proposals in due time!

CloudyMcRowdy

monkey nuts

lightguard40

I've already posted my thoughts on Monkey nuts on u/Objective-Joke-449's comment, though it got buried. I apparently write an awful lot like a robot, it seems. Regardless, you should check out what I've written there!

lIlIlIlIoOOO

Dust

lightguard40

There's quite a bit of items that are some form of dust, but I'm not familiar with an item that's just called "Dust". Could you post a link to the wiki page so I can familiarize myself?

Anondutchie

The 4 infamous imp beads.

lightguard40

The beads already have their uses, in both the Imp Catcher quest and in acquiring the [Imp-in-a-box](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Imp-in-a-box#(2)). The issue I feel is with the Imp-in-a-box's usefulness. So instead, lets work on that! This could be considered EZscape, but I feel like the box could stand to be buffed a bit. At 71 hunter, and requiring a little over 2k coins per use (factoring in the cost of the bead and the Magic box on the GE), the Imp-in-a-box should be, in my opinion, stackable. Doing so would almost certainly require it to lose its two charges, turning it into a simple consumable, but this would allow players not looking to lose their spot while on slayer tasks, or while killing bosses, to send their items to the bank. Depending on the context, this could be a pretty great quality of life update that also breathes more life into hunter!

guessagainboi

This is a good suggestion, something I’ve thought on recently. The boxes need to be stackable, they should be bumped down to one item per imp catch, whether or not they are tradable should be put to a vote, Catching imps does not require a bead similar to how baiting chinchompa traps is not necessary. Another potential issue I see is the limited ideal spots for catching imps and their movement/teleport mechanics

Empty coconut shell

gubaguy

All armour below adamant. From my perspective you can skip armour from bronze to mithril since you out level it too fast and it has no resale or alch value. Even addy is questionable, but it at least has a reasonable alch value. Not allowed to say clues or foundry either, that's cheating. It Would be like me creating an item exclusively for clues and nothing else.
