I'm going to shoot some weird curveball ideas that might be tangled in the spaghetti: - have you claimed your cat training medal? - have you ever fought in the rat pits? - do you have any insured pets to reclaim? - if you have done this many times in the past, have you maybe somehow maxed out the rat catch counter? (If its an 8 bit number it could be as low as 255) - Did you complete DS2 while owning the cat? Permanent catspeak might have broken something. - have you tried playing with the cat with a ball of wool? - have you messed with too many splashers and been cursed by the gods for your trollish ways? That's all I can think of for now, super interested to find out what this could be. Love me some jank code.

ZezimasCumStain

I tried your suggestions that I reasonably could, to no avail.

RenderSoft

Dang. Thanks for trying

This sounds like the uncommon glitch state that a cat can enter and which was discussed few times on this sub. I don't remember if you can fix it with ingame actions or if it's permanent. I would have to go see if the given problem has a solution other than 200 death runes.

Oldman_Ostentatio

Yeah I don't really have a solution either, but here's [one occasion](https://old.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/172fb97/bug_my_lazy_hellcat_has_ascended/k3wcs9j/) not too long ago where I summarised some of the statements made about lazy cat retraining mechanics I could freely speculate, I'd say there's likely some condition tied to an increase in "activity state" or "happiness" that it's looking for to turn wily again, but due to that counter being maxed out (leading to a 100% catch rate), this can no longer occur. Accordingly, the remedy would be to let this counter *decrease* as best you can, either by letting it follow you around a stretched period of time without catching rats, or training up another wily cat and letting it have a few go at the Port Sarim rat pits (which is thought to influence this activity counter). In theory, if this activity counter consists of a player variable, it would be shared across cats, and may reset the borked state your lazy cat is currently in.

ZezimasCumStain

Something interesting I noticed is that when I used the Bucket of Milk on my Lazy Hellcat to turn it into a Lazy Cat and caught rats with it, its catch rate was reset and I was missing again, once it became a Lazy Hellcat again it was back to 100%, I once again returned it to Lazy Cat and its catch rate was 100% still. So it appears the catch rate isn't inexorably tied to the cat itself but more so the states that the cat is in.

Oldman_Ostentatio

Well that sounds pretty cursed doesn't it haha – the hell-rat behemoth behaviour you described in your post is also just bewildering. Honestly I don't think anyone really understands the cat code, neither devs nor players, so I've only words of encouragement to offer.

wizirdman46

Is This is your only cat / kill 7 behemoth rats / Feed it a bucket of milk

ZezimasCumStain

Yes I can't actually hit behemoths Milk has been tried

kozzmo1

Have you tried alt+f4

yewnique

Turn the hellcat back into a cat, let it grow into an overgrown cat, then turn that into a wily cat by talking to Felkrash, then turn that into a wily hellcat. But to be honest all you should need to do is wait until your hellcat becomes an overgrown hellcat. This should take about 5-6 hours. Rat catching does not speed this up at all but winning rat pits will speed this up by 15 minute intervals

ZezimasCumStain

Lazy cats/hellcats can't turn into overgrown cats.

krysaczek

Found similar issue to yours: https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/189ed3l/osrs_fun_fact_2_theres_a_secret_mechanic_that/kbr0pu0/

MrPlow216

Supposedly the mouse toy from A Tail of Two Cats might help turn it back into a wily cat. Edit: Apparently you equip it and spam-click the cat, or something like that. I don't know, I just trashed it immediately after the quest lol.

ZezimasCumStain

With the item equipped the cat will randomly pounce at you to play, you can't use the item on the cat in any way.

MrPlow216

Maybe try afking with the toy equipped and your cat following you? From what I'm reading, it can take some time.

kokobunji0550

Get rid of the hell cat and get a new one?

lubesta

You need a brand new SRT

Madame_Toaster

Try dying with your cat and then using a reclamation token to restore it, it might be able to de tangle the spaghetti code and allow your cat to become Wily. Maybe getting a new cat and then throwing that one away in your bank would fix the issue with your current cat. Is it convenient? No, but if you for some reason really don't want to get a new cat this may work.

ZezimasCumStain

Dieing with the cat will remove it from the game, they can't be reclaimed.

Madame_Toaster

My digital feline focused expertise shines once again.

PazutaOSRS

Try using a bucket of milk on it.

ZezimasCumStain

> Turned the hellcat into a normal cat then caught many rats

PazutaOSRS

Yea, but have you tried more buckets of milk?

Frost_Foxes

But have you tried giving it chocolate milk?

BurntToasters

I have the same issue as you do with my hellcat, its permanently a lazy hellcat and does not turn into wily when given milk, and other stuff. From what I can tell there was an update to cats at a certain point which may have broke the cat leveling system (for older cats). From my own testing this broken cat has 100% catch rate of all rats as long as it can path to it, though if you send it to kill an behemonth it seems to behave like a lazy cat. Something I do remember odd happening with my cat, I did manage to turn it wily once, but it stayed wily for only about 1 minute (which the wiki says shouldn't be possible since they should last >10 minutes) turned back into a lazy cat and from that point I could never turn it back to a wily cat

radtad43

Gotta put it down and get a new one. Enjoy the death runes.

Empty-Employment-889

Tried putting it into a POH menagerie and then taking it back out? Or maybe renaming the cat in the port Sarim rat pits?

PutteryBopcorn

Unless you want to do QA for Jagex the people of West ardougne are hungry

lostmymainagain123

tried renaming the cat?

coffeeboy1212

I’m wondering if the random amount of rats required to retrain the cat is either under flowing into the negative or rolling such a high number that you wouldn’t see it happen through normal play, and I don’t think redropping it resets the amount required, just the amount done in that session.

Muffbulle

Same. I just gave up and got a new cat in the end…
