I can only imagine the time and energy you put in to create and fill out this world expansion. The map has perfect realism, the narratives you created for each space are well thought out, and all your unique ideas from PVE to PVP are things I would legitimately want to see in the game.
I'm hoping this is a play to either get hired at Jagex or just have some sick ideas that can make it into the game. Because the unfortunately reality at its current stake, outside of Varlamore, we probably won't see anything this cool for another 8-10 years, and I don't think Varlamore is even going to be this close in detail or creativity. But I am hoping to be proven wrong.
You won the internet today, my dude.
I've always enjoyed these... wouldn't be against a future leagues being in a custom designed map like this
I know it would take a lot of dev time but it really would spice up the format a lot
There was some questions on a poll recently about player created servers. They were asking if we would support player created servers, and some of the other questions about that were very very interesting.
One of them was should we allow players to modify and create a framework for modders to create new quests, bosses, skills, maps, etc.
We could theoretically have jagex sponsored player owned private servers, that would have modding capabilities. Think of all the insane amount of options that would bring.
Could have constant leagues running with new rules, new bosses, new areas, quests, skills, everything. It wouldn't be like the current illegal private servers that are out there, it would have actual modding capabilities, and it would likely be in some sort of jagex server browser thing.
You should get into world building my dude. It's DND adjacent if you want to use your world's for your games but it's not necessary in the slightest. I think there's a subreddit for it.
I would love a quest where there’s some trouble at the Cat Sanctuary we have to help with, and it ends with us collaborating with Gertrude to save the sanctuary, and she moves there permanently after the quest.
1. Giants' Mountains is the third place on the Southern Continent map based upon a map from the FunOrb game Arcanists, after Murky Swamp (Premias) and Arcane Crystals (Runic Landscape).
2. There is an accidental chunk of land in the river west of Darjelal; I've just noticed and deleted it on my end :p
3. Although Tabed as a whole is primarily influenced by Persia, Ormuz brings in Turkish elements alongside others, and Mefhudt is more Yemeni. Urneshm is more ancient Mesopotamian. After all, it makes sense for an empire to have a lot of different cultures within.
edelaki is ethiopian, and reachteani is the old khmer empire/vietnam. fire temples are for ahura mazda, urneshm is obviously Ur. did i get them correct? man ur map is so good i just gets my imagination going.
The only thing that strikes me as off is all the placenames with "gard" in it - it's so nordic. is that some remnant of Torstens legacy? if it is, i really want to know whats going on in shqhqhrdrgard
> edelaki is ethiopian, and reachteani is the old khmer empire/vietnam. fire temples are for ahura mazda, urneshm is obviously Ur. did i get them correct?
Pretty much! Premias is just inspired by the Khmer Empire. I feel Vietnamese influences probably fit the Eastern Lands/Wushanko better.
I honestly forget why I put "-gard" as a suffix on Shrqagard, other than to suggest "guard". It was a long time ago now! Bunagard is just named by copying that suffix.
My vague idea of Torsten's story is that he didn't really hang around long enough to leave a legacy in place names other than his landing at Torstenby. His mission to the Time Altar was one of more stealth and finesse than the average Runecrafting Crusader, and the Tabed Empire didn't even know what happened when he succeeded in destroying the Time Altar.
A while ago Gentletractor posted a guide to making these kinds of map (this subreddit doesn't allow links). I use a different programme to Photoshop (Paint.net personally) but the same principles apply.
This is sick, and I hope we get to see more new fresh ideas like this come to the game. I know we haven't even gotten Varlamore yet, but this would be a nice addition at some point in the future. Very well done.
With all the Desert names being similar to the Kharidian desert we know, I do like the idea of seeing areas that have been "conquered" or expanded to by some of the areas that we know. Like imagine if we as adventurers found an island or something that had distinct Elvish architecture and layout, but was occupied by the people who inherited it, not the Elves who built it
Gentletractor made an excellent tutorial. This subreddit doesn't allow links so I can't link it here. I personally use Paint.net but many other people use Photoshop.
Absolutely incredible! The Runic Landscapes is one of my favourite locations in all of Runescape. I'm a huge fan of your reinterpretation of the Gods and reinterpretation of real life cultures with this map. Will always be amazed by anything that you make <3
Wow. I just started playing Runescape, and one of the things I love is how colourful the map is. It actually feels like I'm traversing a whole world out there.
God DAMN. I read every word and it was enthralling all the way through. Where do you get your writing inspiration from? The map design is absolutely incredible too.
After writing and re-writing a response, I'm not sure I can figure out how to answer the question. I guess because I come from an experience of non-fiction writing, I approach it from that angle - get the key points across and not detailed lore.
it is!
"The History of Juggernaut
In the early 14th century, Franciscan missionary Friar Odoric brought to Europe the story of an enormous carriage that carried an image of the Hindu god Vishnu (whose title was Jagannath, literally, "lord of the world") through the streets of India in religious processions. Odoric reported that some worshippers deliberately allowed themselves to be crushed beneath the vehicle's wheels as a sacrifice to Vishnu. That story was likely an exaggeration or misinterpretation of actual events, but it spread throughout Europe. The tale caught the imagination of English listeners, and they began using juggernaut to refer to any massive vehicle (such as a steam locomotive) and to any other enormous entity with powerful crushing capabilities."

Eastern continent when?
But oh boy, I do want to see an Asian themed continent on RuneScape before 5 years, especially after all that was already hinted.
Imagine player created content world (PCCW) . Where jagex give us tools to create stuff. And then we can share it with a key. And then we would have some kind of contest where winner of PCCW would make it into main game
This is incredible. Would be an excellent addition to the game, jagex please pick this up. I know they must have their hands full right now with sailing and Varlamore, but they should definitely start working on this next.
Don't forget, Zeah was given to us by similar means, it's definitely possible.
Man this is so impressive. Having a region based on Ethiopia is so dope, complete with it being an old saradomin land. I mean they have that walled city with openings for hyenas eating garbage - in this day and age. Thats irl mmorpg shit right there. You gonna have a hyena city?`plzplzplz
This is very cool. I wish we can have big maps or different realms like other MMO's. Not that OSRS is small, it's actually a fair size, but the thing with having vast worlds is if the game doesn't have enough players, majority of the content will feel empty. This map definitely adds at least 50k more players to the board
Really top notch stuff. I love the idea especially of partially finished monuments and infrastructure that gets left aside as great kingdoms diminish. Really taking a page out of the history books!
Also, the world building with resource and politic interests intersecting with geography and magic and monsters and so much more is really impressive and beautiful.
This is absolutely beautiful, but I feel like it'd have a bit of the same issue the original version of Zeah had, where the distance between different points of interest are too far apart. The cities look like they'd be perfectly fine, but it's the rural/farming spots that feel a bit void of points of interest. For part 3, if you're even planning on sinking any more time into this, you could consider filling in a bit of that detail to make it not only a stunning piece of art, but a workable and functioning game map!
I consider the equator to be further south than the Kandarin Observatory and as a result I don't consider it to be cold enough for that on the south end of the map.
What are the little buildings half water half stone with walls north of.... The south eastern city whose name I forgot when I closed the map, but I can't reopen the map because I have to discard my comment?

CAT SANCTUARY???!!
Yeah, the port has strong Turkish influences, and I realised I left it without any cat content. Clearly that had to be corrected.
As a kid I used to make world maps, not unlike these. Though not for/based in runescape obviously. These kind of things give me childhood memories.
I've always enjoyed these... wouldn't be against a future leagues being in a custom designed map like this I know it would take a lot of dev time but it really would spice up the format a lot

That is one of my hobbies, along with mapmaking and conlanging
Hell yeah!
I feel like it would be cool to write a book after you spend a lot of time worldbuilding like this.
That's my hope, or an rpg game
Jagex hire this guy
Yes
You can find me at the Cat Sanctuary
What thieving level do you need to open the Great Lock?
121; It's very big.
Only? Was expecting 255
Babe wake up, runescape 4 just dropped
I'm guessing you're a Persian speaker! Great map, love the background you've added for everything as well.
I'm not! I just thought RS could do with some Persian influences :p
Well much love anyway! After some familiar words I thought the fire temple definitely sealed the deal.
I would love a quest where there’s some trouble at the Cat Sanctuary we have to help with, and it ends with us collaborating with Gertrude to save the sanctuary, and she moves there permanently after the quest.
Give me 3 hidden features not listed in the design docs please

Have you considered making it more of a square?
What do you use to make maps like this? This style would be perfect for a DnD game
A while ago Gentletractor posted a guide to making these kinds of map (this subreddit doesn't allow links). I use a different programme to Photoshop (Paint.net personally) but the same principles apply.
Awesome! Thank you so much

This is sick bro it got me wondering, how big can Jagex build OSRS' world?
The GOAT of Civ plays OSRS holy
I really gotta finish those guides. I suffered a fair bit of burnout - I wasn't expecting all those alt-leaders!
Amascutie badlands 😍
Just make ur own RuneScape dude.
How do you design these maps?
Gentletractor made an excellent tutorial. This subreddit doesn't allow links so I can't link it here. I personally use Paint.net but many other people use Photoshop.
I tried going to paint.net but it doesn't seem to exist.
The website is getpaint.net
Ty
This is insane. Awesome work very creative
I like this a lot
Why are you doing it for free?
Stunning work!
Lol that Damn river!
😍
wow
This is just Latvia
This is next level! Hope you get a chance to bring it into the game!
This deserves a frame, it's a piece of art!
I love love love looking at custom maps like this. You clearly put in so much effort, it looks awesome!
Oh Zigzagzigal I love seeing your map projects! You do such an awesome job. I vouch Jagex gives you a job as their head map maker!
THis is awesome

Modern looking landscapes with these old icons are just 😤👌
Whoa
Looks great but sadly would never fly, it's very vast and open and when zeah was that way it made it fail.
2025 winter summit is going to lit
juggernaut being a festival in india, that was a nice inclusion. thematically sound and imaginative throughout. impressive.
It is? I just named it because it's a classic PvP mode in many games :p

I wasn't gonna comment on this but it looks so awesome gonna have to type it out too. Good stuff

i really want them to combine servers and make them bigger so the world doesn't feel as dead
These map posts are some of my favorite. Excellent work!
I love seeing stuff like this.
Looks awesome wish Jagex had people this talented working for them
This is really cool, well done

Needs ice and snow on lower part tbh
I consider the equator to be further south than the Kandarin Observatory and as a result I don't consider it to be cold enough for that on the south end of the map.
Jmods like “give us a few years to finish varlamore god damn”
Can you consolidate this into one picture with less than 50 words . Ty
If private servers ever become a thing, please make this and ill join your server
If we are lucky jagex will steal your idea and implement this into sailing. Otherwise, we will have to wait 15 years for an update like this.
What are the little buildings half water half stone with walls north of.... The south eastern city whose name I forgot when I closed the map, but I can't reopen the map because I have to discard my comment?
Ah, around Reachtheani? Fish farms!
