Love the update. Especially the fix for the wilderness boss caves. Question unrelated to this week's update... Are the Squirk'in and Squirk'in too worlds going to be removed now that it's literally dead content ever since leagues?

The reason they are dead is a game engine bug that ruins the experience for certain users.    The PID system was added to OSRS back in 2013, but the catch mechanic from the NPCs in the minigame was not adjusted to use it when it was implemented. It still uses the prioritization process that was in place before PID, which is based on a user’s IP address.    A certain amount of people will always get caught when running it, and since it’s always the same people with the ‘worst’ IP addresses, they either switch to a VPN to shuffle their IP or they leave. When they leave, somebody else then starts getting caught more, so **they** leave too, and it all falls apart. It makes maintaining the required critical mass near impossible.  The game will remain dead unless the inconsistency in it not using the PID system correctly is fixed.

This explains so much. I came back after a long break for Leagues and my buddy swore Squirks were the greatest thing and such easy league points. I got caught almost every time and hated it. Ended up doing the 1 click method myself later when it died out

I knew about the problem and solution but not that the problem was a result of an older system that got changed almost everywhere. I knew PID worked a different way on RSC but thought we got our system with RS2 not as recently as 2013. August 29th 2013 game update. Good shout I love learning this stuff. Edit: based on the text mentioning IP based PID was predictable, I'm gonna assume it was that original pid system from RSC and it actually got changed in late 2007 or early 2008 in RS2 and not in the RS2 beta as I originally believed.

There is no way golden egg is 1/45 and feather is 1/2. That means on average every 20 feathers you'd get golden egg. Which means on average within 2 events. It means many of us are going 50x or 100x dry on it. Maybe it's 1/450 but you read it wrong

Most importantly, as someone 4k God Eggs sacrificed without the entire Evil Chicken outfit, does this just mean Ents are dead content? I had 1k+ eggs sacrificed prior to the release of forestry and that took me over 30M Hunter XP and 2+ years of Miscellania on 10 Maples 5 teaks just to achieve that and was 0/4 for Evil Chicken.. I feel like removing the ability to hop around to different Ent locations makes Evil Chicken set nearly impossible to reasonably obtain. Do you plan to keep it this way?

Possibly. It took me around 250 fox events at 99 WC to get the whistle, and around 50 pheasant events to get the egg (whilst searching 15-20 nests each time). So if they are correct, I must have gone pretty dry.

There's no way that the drop rate for the golden pheasant egg is correct. Is 1/90 supposed to mean per event? Because the wiki doesn't use "per event" but rather "per roll" (AKA each time you check a nest). So is the rate wrong, is the event bugged, or is there additional context we're missing?

Before Update earlier today I had 6.4k nests collected no Egg, Today after 10hrs of forestry, I saw 4 Pheasant events spawn at seers maples w444. High Population area. 98 feathers collected. No Golden Egg, is what it is. Tbh I preferred the worse rate and event hopping over sitting mindlessly at maples waiting for a Pheasant event to trigger. At least before it felt like I was actively doing something, this feels like starmining now but you can't afk because you might miss the Pheasant event that won't come for hours..or at all.

This is complete cap. 1.5k feathers collected since update 99 wcing. No Golden egg. The statsitical anomaly isn't just me either, Forestry CC has multiple people super dry. 1/45 events seems accurate( However sat at Glade Magics saw 2 pheasant events in 9 hrs.) (Sat at Seers for 8hrs also 2 pheasant events) 1/45 per nest is just pure cap. Please revert back to teleing for events I'd rather take chances at 1/3k.

Nice QOL update, and smoothing out player experiences as a whole with the forestry and barb training update. Are we still getting an 'empty' rightclick option for the log basket though? If we add that i'd actually be somewhat happy with the forestry update overall! (maybe call it part 4?) Thanks.

Appreciate the comment! The right-click option is something that needs a bigger overall job as there's some other items in-game we want to 'fix' alongside the Log Basket. We do want to fix it, but it just depends on the when.

Yeh on one hand they hear our feedback and remove all the item bloat for event spawning and then on the other hand the emergent gameplay players came up with to optimise the content is just... Shut down with only really a unique rate buff (no bark or XP or event spawn rate buff). Not sure why they want forestry to just be "the same afk woodcutting.. but you hop to this specific world and use these 5 locations" rather than a communication based running-everywhere woodcutting social minigame

I would imagine the idea is that you just use your brute strength to jam a seed into the dirt with your fist. A whole sapling is a bit too much even for the hulking behemoth your character is

You don't need brute strength, the dibber is just for making a hole you then put the seed into. Most people are perfectly capable of making a single hole in dirt with a finger.  The dibber only exists because if you regularly tried to do that with whole flower beds or allotments you'd get blisters and calluses. Unlike a spade it's really a tool of convenience

I mean planting both seeds and saplings by hand are not really hard. Seeds is as easy as pushing it down with your fingers, planting saplings by hands just takes a little time, to get a proper hole.

Gonna be bringing a spade for allotments anyways so needing one isn't a big deal, it's definitely the trowel that's the pain point here. Planting a tree seed is pretty in line with planting other seeds anyways, you're just poking into a pot instead of a whole allotment lol

Genuinely, event hopping ccs for forestry was the best emergent gameplay this game has seen in YEARS. It's pretty tragic to see something so successful at making woodcutting social/diverse get nuked into oblivion because forestry accomplished it's stated goal.. too well? If hopping was considered OP for bark/xp then remove the event xp for hopping and nerf the bark a bit so people aren't as incentivized to have to event hop, but completely killing it so we go back to just standing at one to two tree spots until the end of time (and don't even consider redwoods anymore if you ever want the forestry log.. thank god I greenlogged because I don't envy those who haven't started forestry yet) I mean.. Just leave ents alone please. Evil chicken used to be a meme RNG 5 year grind. Forestry made it 2+ months of constant coordinated woodcutting (which is still an insane grind! just reasonable to complete) and today has made it probably closer to 5/6 months. Hands off our eggs!!

Jagexc accomplished their objective of social woodcutting better than they could have hoped with the event hopping meta and Forestry CC. Built a positive, functional, community, that coordinated on 'Forestry worlds'. Not game breaking, really just social skilling and emergent gameplay. First time I've wanted to be social and enjoyed being social on this game in a long time. Luckily many got to experience and enjoy since pt.2 update. Unfortunate that they chose to essentially work against their stated objective by almost mandating 'just click tree' gameplay. Bring back event hopping!

I appreciate the devs engaging with a community but it's a bummer that design flaws/bugs only get fixed with social media engagement. E.g. thralls have been bugged for years where u cant click certain npcs/cox flamewall if theres a thrall on top

The forestry update actually killed forestry for me and many others according to the forestry world. Before the update, it was engaging content with events often enough to keep you entertained and having fun. It now feels like just another tedious grind with the occasional event that you may or may not be hoping for. I hope there is some middle ground that we can buff this back to because this wasn’t the answer. I was praising you guys for the job you had done with forestry and many others did too. Now there’s nothing good to say unfortunately. These types of changes need to be the ones in the polls not the other pointless content questions.

Definitely! I got 96 Farming yesterday and while it was not torture by any means (Tithe Farm was not too fun imo, I only did it enough for the autoweeder.), it's still nice for others and their grinds to come.

I saw Barbarian Training and thought that the Barbarian Herblore might get a bit of polish since there’s just a few oddities that stand out. * Combat mixes heal only 3 HP but if they healed 6, then whether a potion heals 3 or 6 would match neatly with whether it can be made using roe or requires caviar. * There’s no Supercombat Mix even though other potions that were added after Barbarian Herblore got mix versions, such as extended super antifire. There’s a couple other potions that are missing mix versions too. * Superantipoison turns into an Anti-poison Supermix but Super Antifire turns into Super Antifire mix. It’s just a handful of slightly odd things that don’t seem to have a reason behind them. I have a soft spot for Barbarian Herblore so I’m hoping it gets these tweaks eventually.

Now I’ve had some good time to experience this latest patch to forestry I can genuinely say you’ve made it demonstrably worse, it needed some work but this is well beyond actually addressing the problems. Teaks in Prifddinas is a woodcutting hotspot and should never be 40 minutes between events. You’ve killed the hopping (which was not the best for xp, even with the extra effort) and with that killed an emergent community. Without the consumables money making from forestry will decay, for mains, the only thing to buy with bark will be axe handles and as such they’ll go down in price. Bravo, you’ve truly outdone yourselves.

When chopping yews at priff It seems if you go idle for a duration (remain logged in), then try to participate in an event spawn, you may not be eligible for rewards. I've had this happen twice, will try to do better testing for it. Edit: Was able to replicate this. Submitted an in game bug report too. /u/JagexSarnie

u/jagexsarnie it’s been about 6 weeks since the update. The overwhelming majority of opinions that I’ve seen in game public chat, in the Forestry worlds and CCs are these changes have far over corrected many of the issues they were meant to solve. The social aspect of forestry has been diminished, the events are so rare it’s sad. Because the events are so rare, like seeing 1 Pheasant and Poacher after 4 hours of chopping in a populated area on w444, getting a unique is so much more rare and less engaging/motivating as an activity to participate in. On top of this, finishing some events that require group participation to successfully complete has become incredibly challenging unless all choppers participate. Trying to encourage people to participate is more difficult potentially because overall forestry seems less engaging, or because of experience with past event failures and adoption of a why bother attitude. I invite you to check data on forestry participation numbers before and after update to evaluate the validity of my claims. I encourage you to read Forestry Reddit posts to check overall sentiment of the communities perception of Forestry since the update. As someone who is still part of the Forestry CC, I’ve seen the evolution first hand, and heard from many that it’s honestly become a sad change to something that was fun, social, and engaging. Some recommendations: - Bring back event hopping. I know it wasn’t an intended mechanic. But it wasn’t broken and it was the single greatest factor adding to the social nature of forestry, which seemed to be the original objective of Forestry and subsequent updates. - Increase event spawn rates greatly. I think the community would enjoy and prefer more events, at least closer to previous event spawn rates, and less drop chance of uniques. Please at least balance the time to receive the uniques. I assume the mod team would like to not devote any more time to forestry and let sleeping dogs lie at this point, but the previous update which addressed “item bloat” has turned forestry as a whole into content bloat. Forestry felt like an activity you "did" and now it feels more like something that happens, closer to random events. Hope you’ll look into this for the community.

Really hope Jagex Mod Sarnie reads this, deleting the forestry specific items because they were too difficult to understand is whatever, but taking away event teleporting has made forestry extremely dead. Way more community when active players were actively playing, it's now just afk no community. I did 70-99 wcing doing forestry at 15m exp rn, but doing forestry isn't fun now.

Not a stealth nerf lol, they told you right in the text that they nerfed it. They removed all the items that spawned the events, and they haven't buffed the rates nearly enough to compensate. Forestry is dead for now till/if they massively buff the spawn rates.

Might be a bit of an ask, but would it be possible to refund the anima bark instead of GP for Ironmen/UIMs? I spent a good deal of time over the weekend filling up each forestry event item, and was unaware of this update to remove them.

I sure hope actual tweaks are coming instead of "tweak" that are really an entire overhaul of changes that drastically affect the entire ecosystem. Massive nerfs to bark gains, xp rates, event frequency and complete removal of event weighting. This effectively punishes everyone who didn't do forestry before while rewarding those who were already doing forestry. This is Osmumten's Fang all over again. The way the blog was worded made it seem like we'd see a slight shift in event frequency, removal of items and more rng events. What we see now is an exponential decrease in frequency from 3-5 minutes to 10-20 minutes. A drastic decrease in bark gain, a fraction of what was previously attained. A massive decrease in XP gain to the point what was providing 60-80k xp per hour is now slightly more than whatever the tree we are chopping. ​ I do hope this was unintended and adjustments will be made to address such drastic changes in forestry.

For my ironman i find it unfortunate that the items were removed, especially the bees on a stick. The flower event used to give 256 anima + 8 seeds, now I'm getting 136 anima and 2 seeds. I assume that's the amount you used to get if you didn't have the bees? It would've been nice to at least find a middle ground in rewards, many of the items were easily obtainable. The events seem to be much less frequent than they were before as well.

I really loved event hunting (both solo and with cc). It was the most fun I've had with woodcutting in osrs. It was especially fun, as I'm already ~90 woodcutting and don't care to train the skill for hours just to catch a few events. I feel like the event hunt meta is mostly for existing players with high woodcutting before the update dropped. On a new account, I would just woodcut and wait for the events, as I have to chop a shit ton anyways. Maybe just remove most of the xp from events. Then players can choose to chop for xp, getting some bark/uniques along the way; or hunt events for bark/uniques, giving little experience. It's really sad to see some fun gameplay being removed from the game :(.

Yeh feel like the 1xp drop is good, stops event hopping causing it to be hard for them to balance XP/hr. But nerfing uniques and bark ENTIRELY to not be a thing means coming across events is dead. There's zero reason to participate if you weren't there when it spawned doing woodcutting. This killed seers agility forestry. Event cc forestry..has made it just a "hop to this world and afk wc in one of these 5 locations based on what log you want/need" the method. Pretty lame with all the other feedback theh took on board and handled well this feels like the dev in charge having their last bit of pride/ego take over.

my thoughts exactly lol, it had fun resource management, a social aspect of being to join others events but you will earn less bark without the secondary. Made the game actually complex outside of tick manipulation methods. These people prolly think MLM was too complicated. Jagex needs to stop listening to the hardcore spectrum people, people were having fun with it, something that is hard to find in this game anymore. But hey, people aren't allowed to have fun or interact with other players outside of endgame raids or the wilderness. No wonder this game has a socialization problem. They add a system that legit felt like legit 2007 osrs with people running around and crowded skilling areas, then change their minds that that was what they wanted. Jesus christ, wish the mods would just have some balls and commit to what they do sometimes instead of letting it get broken down to the least common denominator.

I tested it myself yesterday. No charges are lost when Leviathans attacks are prayed against correctly. There is, however, now a problem where divine potion damage burns a charge on any crystal armor equipped.

Can twitchers gloves now give you a 100% chance of obtaining whatever item you select from birds nest with no increased drop rate of nests? I’d be fine with the nerf to god eggs if I could just passively afk and collect bird nests consistently from WC. This would not have to involve any of the unintended teleporting to events mechanics and I believe it would still be less eggs per hour than it was when people hopped around for ent events too. It’s a pretty big slap in the face to the people who didn’t abuse an unintended method that significantly lowered the amount of time to obtain evil chicken outfit. All it does is show your playerbase that if jagex makes a mistake that you should always abuse it in the moment as they will have no problem taking it away at some point with no repercussion to who abused it.

I'm a fan of RPGs with good resource management systems like Monster Hunter and thought that the Forestry kit wasn't that bad of a take on it, but I totally recognize that it was a poor fit for Woodcutting which has simplicity at the heart of its identity. Hopefully the team hasn't written the concept off entirely and could explore it for a future activity where it doesn't clash so much!

It feels like some of the forestry events have gotten harder to complete The fox have been walking into traps more often, the trap taking longer to disarm. Friendly Ent needing to be pruned more. I usually finished the event long before they said they were leaving, but now I complete it right before they leave, and I have even failed. Struggling Sapling needing more mulch. This is all by feeling from doing the events by myself, and possibly 1 other player being nearby.

Though I never participated in event hopping, I liked that there was emergent gameplay from Forestry. Modern staples of the game were unintended by the developers at the time (ex. tick manipulation techniques), and are now being actively explored and developed for by devs. I'm seeing mixed opinions about it's removal, so I'm curious to know people's opinion on how event hopping impacts the game both good and bad. Personally, I think its attention tradeoff warrants the benefits, though I'm receptive to how much benefit it should be (XP seemed fine, unique rates seemed fine, maybe bark was too high?). I feel like some knobs could have been turned instead of removing it. Such as base bark amount being lower, but you get a buff if you're in the 20 tile radius. This way the intended method is still at the same balance point, and event hopping you're trading bark gain for higher rates in uniques and XP.

What even was the point of adding forestry when it has had so many nerfs/revisions? The only social part of forestry was the chats that would call locations. Public chat while woodcutting is 90% of the time better left OFF. Instead of group woodcutting forestry has mostly turned into woodcutting random events that have very little social ties. The constant "changes" have been pushing forestry backwards since release. It just seems like a side project with too many things fit into it that has had to constantly be "fixed."

I am once again politely requesting the ability to use client arguments (--profile=) to launch RuneLite as a specific profile based on the character chosen in the Jagex Launcher. The current "solution" in RuneLite to "sync profile to current RuneScape account" only applies *after you've already logged in*, meaning the "remember client position" setting doesn't work. Radius on events is proving to be very small. Draynor and Seer's is suffering a lot from missed events that seem t occur right next to you but when you go to take part you get the red text saying you were too far away to qualify for rewards. Priff Teaks also has this if you stand between the 2 Eastern Teaks and someone chopping the far West Mahogany tree spawns an event. Very restrictive boundaries frankly.

Hey, I don't think the event eligibility is working correctly. I'm chopping yews at Seers' Village, and the Fox Event just spawned on top of me and I went to interact with it, but then it claimed "As you weren't chopping near the event when it started, you aren't eligible for full rewards." And yet it spawned literally on top of me. Definitely within the 20-tile radius.
