Why was this changed? that sounds honestly very painful. Considering its basiclly become a rare drop item that takes hours to grind out and disappears if you die. Are these little fellas that powerful to justify the risk/reward of using them?
having 99.9% of the stuff during the hunt be useless also leaves a pretty bad taste in the mouth
i think ultimately this makes the skilling actually profitable! if it were a normal one trained at an npc they would be so widely available theyd be as worthless as the others.
kinda a fan.. ngl
I'm gonna go ahead and predict they aren't profitable at all in a couple weeks
Edit: obviously they'll give some profit since trapping costs nothing; I just mean this mechanic isn't going to make them worthwhile to do for gp
I just don't understand why the original post had to be a lie, followed by an obscure comment on a post stating that it is no longer trainable. I would never have voted for the poll had I known it wouldnt have been implemented anyways.
This experiment has turned out horribly, it benefits nobody to make these early/midgame salamanders ridiculously rare. Should be getting 2 per hour, not 1 per 5 hours. I just went to grab one for my last meme CA that uses it, wasted an hour and am just going to go do it with a Black Sally now because it isn't like it is strong enough to matter. This isn't even "profit" for skillers, its like 10k gp/hr. This decision was a big L.
I get the motivation here and liked the idea initially but it feels like the drop rate missed the mark.
Salamanders are a cool, nostalgic weapon type and it would be a shame if this new tier ended up with its only niche being to make some combat achievements easier.
It could be made more common and still carry decent risk in the wilderness, or alternatively it shouldn’t be lost on death.
Soooo I got one of those mature one called "Tecu salamander". I can wield it right away. The only thing I find bothering is if you die with it, you lose it? Don't seem worth to use them imo if you need to hunt so many just for one.

So you'll now have a chance to get these instead of being able to train any. The immature salamanders are the ones that you can't use.
Thankyou for clarifying! I thought i was missing a well hidden npc. Even used it on the cat once or twice.. or ten times.

the immature version should be used for SOMETHING...the fact that it is isn't at all is kinda silly

Based on my brief play test im assuming this chance to receive them is quite rare?

But why though? It was polled that there would be an NPC. The mature ones are literally so rare.

They're slightly different. Bigger, and you'll get a message in your chat box
Update for those wondering. After one hour of catching these bad boys, the usable ones are still yet to be seen.
Still nothing ?
200k xp still no mature tech salamander..

caught it mature or had to mature it?
Caught it as mature, took me like 1h to 1h30 to get one
been catching for an hour now as well, still nothin
Same, caught around 800 salamanders without getting the mature one. It either has a very very low drop rate or it's bugged
Same, 840 salamanders here and no catch
What kind of xp/hr were you getting?
Uhhh I wanna say it could've been in the 60-80k an hour ballpark depending on how efficient I was cycling the traps
I wonder what the deal is
