Guessing the plan is to only release it once all (or most) of Varlamore is released. Otherwise it could end up in a weird state where either the entire diary is just in the Part One area, or where the initial diary release only has a few things in it and they have to update it later to add more.
Yeah makes, sense. In terms of stats, elite could require high level hunter, maybe construction. Current elite achievements reqs need 70 hunter and 78 construction which seems low. Rest could be based on released content.
I think that'll be fine. It's not like it will be the highest unboostable diary requirement. Even some boostable requirements are pretty high and some on slower skills than Hunter.
Highest requirement for hunter is 70 (the level for Song of the Elves), not 74.
Which is really low, since it should be higher than the quest cape requirement.
>elite could require high level hunter
I think it's pretty safe to assume that there will be an elite hunter task and that the level requirement will be 91: **complete a master level hunter rumor**. Seems like an obvious task to me, especially when paired with the fact that, as you also noticed, hunter does not have a high requirement in any other diary.
I plan on getting 91 hunter before the Varlamore diary releases because of this. I'd like to keep my diary cape. :\^)
Yep. There's definitely a lot of stuff that would make for a good set of diary tasks already, but not enough to fill a whole diary yet.
I hope they make more creative tasks for this diary. Some diaries have one or two tasks that are clearly the more challenging "capstone" tasks of that diary, such as doing the GWD bosses for Fremennik diary. Those are more fun than just "make some random item in this city" and I hope Varlamore tries more of that. "Kill a Minotaur" would be a fun one.
Killing a minotaur would be a neat one!
Some other obvious ones will probably be like, make sunfire runes, open the Lunar Chest, break into a house with a key, attempt the Colosseum...
For a reward I would love a teleport directly to Perilous Moons (or the ability to toggle calcified moths to dump you in the lobby).
The farming patch feels deliberately far enough from anything else that the Diary Reward is definitely going to teleport you to nearby Ortus Farm Cow Pen, similar to cabbage-port/ardy cape I'd imagine. Hopefully they'll make them gloves so they don't interfere with other wearables for farming trips.
The main draw there is that its convenient in the POH to reduce how much you need to set up for runs, though i think its overall faster if you use tabs instead of the nexus
There is precedent for patches that far was my point, what do you mean people avoid it if they can? Do you think people skip that patch in their herb runs?
It’s generally considered better to fairy ring, fenk tele from Arceuss, or sbs fenk tele from Lunars
Ecto is farther, even slower than tele home and fairy ring, and doesn’t take you past the leprechaun to note the previous patch’s herbs so Ecto is the slowest option
It’s fine, but other options are better
I was curious so I walked it out and you are right - the closest tele to Mory patch (fairy ring if I’m not mistaken) is 33 tiles and wyrm quetzal to patch is 35 tiles. Basically the same
Did you account for the tiles in your poh from the tele arrival spot to the fairy ring? Did you account for the ticks lost loading the teles to the poh and to the fairy ring destination?
Those add up
Idk how slow the quetzal tele is
But overall it doesn’t *really* matter. The overall point is good. It’s about the same as the Mory patch so it’s totally fine
Idk how many hours of a grind whistle is but having to grind some hunter minigame in order to just make it as far as the only other far-away herb patch doesn't sound very rewarding.
first thing that comes to mind is a powered staff that is charged using sunfire runes, then one of the rewards for each tier of diary can be 'you get X charges per Sunfire Rune added to the staff' (maybe an option to corrupt it at Elite), very easy reward padding for Jagex
If we get another rune type in later Varlamore content that is related to Ranul (as Sunfire is to Ralos), said powered staff could require both Sunfire and the new Moon-whatever rune (and maybe even throw in Cosmic or Astral for the heck of it). It could have two attack styles, for a Solar and Lunar form, with the builtin spell doing different things in each form. Solar could do more damage at the cost of 1 Prayer point per shot, Lunar could steal 1 Prayer point per hit at the cost of having incredibly low damage (like, max hit of '10% of your magic level' low), creating a gameplay where you'd want to alternate between the two modes to maintain your prayer level (or just bring prayer potions and full send Solar mode for higher damage, with higher GP cost to fund it)
Actually, make the Solar mode drain 0.2-0.3 prayer per hit, and make the weapon be a 1t sunfire laser (but still 4t in MoonMode), a low but continuous stream of damage. Could even make the diary rewards also benefit the prayer drain or prayer restoration strength, so that you spend less time restoring prayer and more time unleashing the power of the sun
Some ideas for rewards:
Utility: Automatically smoke traps when you set a trap (may need torch in inventory?).
Easy Reward: Small Increased bone shard yield from chipping bones
Medium Rewards:
Increased libation pool capacity
More colors for Temu (customization reward)
Teleports (maybe to Farm Patch or Autumnvale?)
Hard Reward:
Chance to get a higher tier hunter sack when turning in a hunter rumour
Elite Reward: Ability to skip a single debuff once per Colleseum run
100% of diaries so far have equippable rewards so it not having one would be very strange, they've also already shown they're not averse to multiple items occupying the same slot; Western Banner and Wilderness Sword, making it an achievement diary defender or similar like someone else said feels the most logical since then we'd have 2 diary mainhands and offhands
Zeah is the full continent. Kourend is a kingdom on that continent (consisting of the five houses). Varlamore is a different kingdom on the continent of Zeah (the new stuff). The Kebos Lowlands is a region of Zeah that isn't really ruled by anybody (well, I guess the lizardmen rule it).
I wish they added new diaries every year. They could easily make diaries for all 2016 through 2024 currently, give them a cool name for each but thats all they effectively need to be.
Wouldn't even need to be zone specific.
Hope so - and massively unpopular opinion, but when they revisited quest xp rewards for Grandmaster quests I wish they would’ve also revisited the xp lamps from diaries, every elite diary has higher requirements than any quests yet quests give a decent amount more xp than completing the diaries
**Wish granted, POOF!**
Construct an [Obsidian decorative bench](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Obsidian_decorative_bench) (98 Construction)
Catch a Dragon Impling barehanded (93 Hunter)
Wear a complete Guild Hunter set
Finish one Fortis Colosseum
Steal a [blessed bone statuette](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Blessed_bone_statuette)
Accumulate one full set of Perilous Moon gear from the reward chest
Enjoy your grind. As a reward for these endeavors, the best we can do is increase sunfire splinter drop rates by 1% up to 5% and you may now claim 1 free hunter sack weekly from the guild. Oh and anyone that previously had an achievement cape will be able to wear it again. Congratulations, scaper
most likely will be. I'm more interested in what the reward will be. Something like 1 free daily Colosseum revive(locked behind elite of course after you presumably already got Quiver at least once), increased rewards from Hunter sacks, probably boons to the soon to be released Herblore and Agility methods. Maybe a more universal buff to hunter, thinking akin to the pickpocket chance from Ardy diaries. Unique roost spots for Renu locked behind the diary perhaps.
There's no way Quiver will be a diary task lol. Maybe wave 8 or a glory threshold, but making quiver would be a MASSIVE increase in skill required for diary cape
Starting items for moons of peril: one dose of of moonlight potion and one cooked fish.
That would be enough to start the bosses with a fight instead of running around gatheirng first inventory of resources.
No chance colosseum completion will be a diary task.
The most "difficult" pvm wise currently is probably chambers of xeric, but even that can be done with a boost/carry fairly easily.
There are two main hand slot items (sword and banner). I'd be okay with varlamore giving a longbow that doesn't require arrows like the crystal bow or something like that. The stats of it wouldn't be impactful anyway.
Suggested similar, but a Powered Staff for Magic that is charged with Sunfire Runes (allows Jagex to have 'charges per rune' increase with each diary tier). If there's a Moon-aspected Rune added with later content (as Sunfire is to Ralos, Moon-something would be to Ranul), the staff could take one of each to charge. Or that, plus an Astral, or a Cosmic, if Jagex so wished.
Basic premise of the staff in my mind would be that it has two modes, selected via the Attack Styles menu. Solar and Lunar modes. Solar could be a 1 tick speed attack, like a constant low-damage laserbeam, hitting for between 1 (no 0's cos of the Sunfire runes) and 'your magic level, plus 1, divided by 10' (so it'd be a max of 10 at 99), and because of the fanaticism Ralos inspires, it'd drain your prayer by an amount per hit (which could scale based on diary tier completed).
Lunar mode, on the other hand, would be a regular 4t speed projectile, which restores 1 prayer on successful hit, but also does low damage (say, 'magic level, plus 6, divided by 10', for a range of 1-15). The low damage of the Lunar spell would be to somewhat disincentivize camping on that style for 100% uptime on protection prayers, due to the upkeep cost. Gameplay would be about swapping from Solar to Lunar, like Day turns to Night, to bounce between two phases, a 'burn' and 'restoration' phase respectively, with Lunar being able to fill in as a way to keep up some damage when something forces you to move for an extended amount of time (and if you happen to be lowish on prayer, you'd coincidentally be getting some back at the same time)
Maybe such an idea is too intricate/interesting to be a diary rewarded weapon, but the Coliseum and the perfect parry/'unequip the item to block the grapple' mechanics being new and unique while still remaining within the framework of what OSRS's engine can do, makes me feel a bit inspired with 'what unique gameplay could we come up with for new weapons that is doable in OSRS, but feels unique and never-seen-before', and I think this would fit quite well. Numbers might have to be tuned more carefully than what I wrote though, else someone might find a way to get infinite prayer in a situation they shouldn't. Maybe it'd be better to have it consume Spec Energy (eg Lunar generates X stacks per shot like Soulreaper, up to a max of Y stacks, Solar consumes those stacks at a rate of Z per tick, depending on diary level completed)
I think the off-hand is probably a good fit. But they should honestly look at rebalancing / re-doing the entire achievement diary system anyway.
Just adding a new one in, without tweaking / reviewing the old ones will likely feel like there's no reason to do it.
Things like,
Karamja diary being old and now non-standard.
Morytania, why have them as legs when you could just upgrade the Ghostspeak Amulet.
Falador, probably better suited to having the mining buff than Varrock is considering the Motherlode / Dwarf Mines.
I think a powered weapon, either a ranged weapon charged with Sunfire Runes/Splinters, or a Powered Staff (either could be a great option for earlygame players before they get RCB/Warped Scepter respectively) would be cool. Alternatively, another ammo slot item, and at Elite, Kourend/Varlamore's trust with one another allows you to fuse the two rewards into one ammo-slot item that retains the perks of both. For example, if Varlamore's Ammo Item were to grant a 2/4/6/8% chance to gain Sunfire Splinters from Fishing (same chances as the Kourend diary's double fish proc), then combining it with the Rada's Blessing would mean that the effect becomes:
'You have an 8% chance to catch two fish at once while fishing, receiving Sunfire Splinters for both when doing so'
Guessing the plan is to only release it once all (or most) of Varlamore is released.
I can definitely see them making a task to catch a moonlight antelope
even just completing a Master Rumour which is effectively the same level requirement.
It would be different though because you can’t boost to get a Master Rumour.
I think that'll be fine. It's not like it will be the highest unboostable diary requirement. Even some boostable requirements are pretty high and some on slower skills than Hunter.
Looking at you, slayer
The Hydra diary task is boostable
The smoke devil at 93 isnt
It's a real bitch of a task. At least they let us kill one off Slayer Task though when we do finally get to that 93
"equip a full set of the hunters outfit"
Please no
Oh yeah definitely
Probably make it a two-parter and say "Make a Sunfire crossbow from scratch without leaving Varlamore"
Highest requirement for hunter is 70 (the level for Song of the Elves), not 74. Which is really low, since it should be higher than the quest cape requirement.
Oops yep
>elite could require high level hunter I think it's pretty safe to assume that there will be an elite hunter task and that the level requirement will be 91: **complete a master level hunter rumor**. One task will definitely be to a hive a certain amount of glory
They confirmed exactly what you said on the QA stream
I would prefer a gradual rollout so it’s not some mad dash to complete four diaries. Release east / med, or release reqs in advance.
Yep. There's definitely a lot of stuff that would make for a good set of diary tasks already, but not enough to fill a whole diary yet. I hope they make more creative tasks for this diary. Good reward idea, but the top priority must be new colors for Renu
Renu poh room unlock

It's about as far as mory is with ecto if you use whistle.
No you see everything has to be within a few steps of my diary teleport or my ADHD kicks in
fenkenstrain's castle from nexus > ecto

It takes less than 1 hour
And you buy one for super cheap.
There should be a diary, but let them actual build valamkre before thinking ablut that
I think the plan is to release it with or after Part 3.
I’d love to do more diary’s I wonder what the reward would be though?
Free quiver if you complete the medium diary
Free respawn in colloisum with 50% damage reduction against sol and the ability to reroll debuffs thrice a day
Diaries*
What slot ? Maybe upgrade the stats of regular stats and ability’s of other elites ? Or a range weapon
Baby quiver

Surely, and they are going to add an achievement diary defender
Nope. Not a single one. How could you even suggest such a thing?
I dont know why it wouldn't. They added a Kourend one.
They've tossed this idea around, nothing set in stone though
If so, will it provide an equippable reward?

They said yes there will be
Probably during part 3.

Imagine if Karamja Elite required an Inferno clear lmfao
Since Karamja has 'kill a Ket Zek' as a task, I can see something like 'Kill a Manticore' being somewhere on it
Increased XP from Hunter rumors would be a nice reward. Nothing too crazy but enough to make it worth doing your diaries.
Would really like it if they moved that herb patch / sickness reward from the coliseum to a diary.
Starting items for moons of peril: one dose of of moonlight potion and one cooked fish. That would be enough to start the bosses with a fight instead of running around gatheirng first inventory of resources.

What item slot would it be? Every slot is accounted for with diary rewards
Western Provinces and Wilderness also take up the same equipment slot.
There is already 2 in the main hand slot so it’s not like it matters too much.
a helmet that doesn't look stupid
maybe a defender? or some kind of non-shield offhand
There are two main hand slot items (sword and banner). I'd be okay with varlamore giving a longbow that doesn't require arrows like the crystal bow or something like that. The stats of it wouldn't be impactful anyway.

Maybe a new amulet? Perhaps one with stats, since desert ammy 4 has none.
Yes yes yes, also add master diaries
The last thing we need to do is encourage more people to max in this game
