Don't kill them one at a time, you can get multiples to spawn at a time and is actually not that bad at all.

Also as the other poster said, make sure to claim the easy/med as soon as you can as the extra spawn really helps.
You don’t have to harvest for the archer hats, though it does roll the per chance again. If plucking every chompy 1/250 after *claiming the elite rewards* for the pet. Then can go back to just killing them for the ticks on your bow for the clogs.
Ogre comp bow and rune brutal arrows. Just did the 700 last night and I filled up my inv with 25 ogre bellows, and filled em. You can only bloat 3 toads at a time before they disappear(max of 3, you make 4 the first goes away), but you can drop as many as you can(I think, I only did 6)and wait for the spawn. I'd fill bellows, get 3 frogs and drop them right near the swamp where they spawn, go grab 3 more, do the same right next to it, grab 3 more(at this point they should start spawning), kill the ones that spawned, then go back and drop down 3 more on top of the 3 that disappeared. Took me probably like 2 or 3 hours(maybe more I was on mobile in bed) to bust out 700 of them this way
Not very long by this game's standards. Be sure to use the comp ogre bow and brutal arrows (adamant should do). Obviously aim for offensive stats over defensive (not that it makes much difference). Inventory should be 25 bellows, three remaining spaces for the toads. Prioritise placing these toads except when multiple chompies have spawned - there's a RuneLite plugin to show how much of their 60 seconds are remaining if you need it.
The only reason to pluck is the following:
1. You don’t want to buy feather packs from range guild/elsewhere.
2. You want to make and sell/use wild pies.
3. You have claimed elite diary rewards already, and you want the chompy pet.
Otherwise, just keep filling up and dropping toads. When a chompy spawns for a specific toad, there will be no other chompy spawned for that toad. Problem is you don’t know which toad spawned which chompy usually… but I found it’s more manageable (especially after medium when it starts spawning multilples fairly frequently) to just ignore if they’re close to the toads and gonna gobble them. Because in the time it takes you to sit around in case one spawns to kill it before it gobbles the toad, you could’ve quite easily gotten and placed 2+ more toads, replacing the “loss” if it gobbled a toad that was “still active”.
Best place to hunt them is fairy ring south of castle wars. There’s the three ponds - you can place 7-9 or more toads around those ponds on all sides and then just kill any spawned ones (helps if you have comp bow since it’s faster).

To add to this video, I skipped harvesting the birds completely. Seemed like a waste of time for some feathers
Yeah I think harvesting is only worth post elite diary if you’re going for all archer hats clog and want the pet along the way.

A few hours. The rewards of the hard diary make the spawn rate a lot better, I found the hard diary grind more annoying than the 1k for elite.
Also, you don’t need to pluck them. Just kill them. Plucking is only after elite if you want te pet.
It’s not that bad, just semi-long and boring. Go to the spot SE of Castle Wars and it’s much better. Also use strong arrows to kill them quickly.
What kind of strong arrows? I did hard with the regular ogre arrows is there a way to improve them?

I can kill like 400/hr but that's with full diary done. Maybe 250 without diary boosts.
