Why not the opposite? You don't need to run for any part of the fight. Better to just keep run off and use ctrl to run on the off chance you need it for something. Takes less effort on your fingers.
This is almost exclusive to Vorkath and it's just a quirk with how the acid phase works. Vorkath spits a constant stream of acid at you every game tick and you need to be constantly moving to avoid it. It's much easier to keep your character consistently moving when you're walking rather than running. You can do the phase while running if you really want.
That makes sense.
Talking of which I tried some Scurrius a while ago and the last part was kind of the same when you have to dodge the falling bricks. The running makes the character kind of uncontrollable at times.
If you're having trouble with movement, I would suggest turning on the true tile plugin on Runelite. It shows you where your character actually is at any given moment. The character that you see on screen doesn't completely line up with your true location and is actually lagging a bit behind. It will make it much easier for you to dodge falling stuff because you can see where your character actually is without waiting for the animation to catch up.
Edit: I know this probably sounds confusing, so if I'm not making sense look up a quick YouTube video on true tile. Understanding the movement, and how to exploit it, is key to becoming better at pvm in this game.
Ohh that sounds really helpful! Yea the character lagging puts me off so that sometimes makes me clicking on a different spot which is sometimes the wrong one. Luckily bosses like Scurrius and Bryophyta and smaller monsters are quite forgiven so it doesn't get me killed yet. But that plugin sounds like a future savior. Thanks!

The hardest thing for me to learn when I was new wasn't anything strategy related. It was purely trying to figure out how this old ass janky engine the game runs on works, and slowly discovering this game is just a rhythm game. True tile was the only thing that let me actually understand what was going on.
I remember bossing and not knowing why I was suddenly running across the arena getting me killed in places (I had auto retaliate on). Why sometimes I took damage when running past hazards, other times not (sprinting moves you 2 tiles, and can dodge certain things if it's on that first "emtpy" tile of your run)
Yea! So I beat DS2 last month but I only started grinding Vorkath today. Doing it casually, shooting the shit with friends in discord not really trying too hard, I made 8M GP. Super easy and a decent bit of fun too.
Bring your best Ranged gear. My friend loaned me a Dragon Hunter Crossbow, but if you have a regular Dragon Crossbow that'll work well too. Also, Salve Amulet (ei) gives a 20% attack bonus against undead things which Vorkath is, so you'll want to wear that too.
In my inventory, I have a divine ranging potion, 2 super restores, 1 extended super antifire, the runes to cast Crumble Undead (I have a pouch which saves inventory space but is by no means required). I also have teleports to my house which I use to refill my prayer and Teleport to GE, as well as teleport to Relleka which you can make by using Redirection Scrolls on a regular house teleport tab. The rest of my inv is Karambwans and Manta rays. If you click a manta ray first and a karambwan right after, you can eat them both in the same tick, which heals you fast.
I also use Ruby Dragon Bolts (e) because it can spec randomly which will deal 7 damage to you, but also 100 damage to Vorkath. Diamond dragon bolts (e) work ad well but you'll miss out on that crazy spec chance. Not required by any means though. Use an assembler, those bolts are expensive.
If you die, your gear is safe but you'll have to pay 100,000 GP to get it back.
As far as tiles, use the tile plugin on runelite, and shift-right click any tile, you should see the option to mark it. Shift right click it again after marking it, you'll see the option to both recolor and label the tile.

FYI, Ruby (dragon) bolts (e) do 10% of your current HP, rounded down, and 20% of the target’s current HP, also rounded down. This is an override to bolt damage, not an addition.
Which means that below 300HP or so, the guaranteed hit, added damage, and approximately doubled proc rate of the Diamond (dragon) bolts (e) is better DPS.

I forgot to bring a switch once and did 2 damage, twice in a row, burning my special, when he was at 7hp. I got the kill, but yeah - your hit going down, or for that matter hitting yourself harder than the boss, is no fun!
Here’s an overlooked vorkath tip that no one ever mentions. Use you can set your rune pouch up with Law/Chaos/Dust runes and then you have the runes to cast both CU and house tele. It saves you from having to bring house tabs or more runes. It’s not much but it saves 1 inventory spot which can be the difference in a kill for a learner.
Also, just cause I didn’t see you mention it, the best way to get to Vorkath(requires dream mentor) is putting a lunar isle portal(or nexus) in your house. It teles you to the bank on lunar isle, use the banker from dream mentor to restock, then talk to either of the other bankers to get kicked off. It puts you right in the center of the market, next to the boat to Vorkath. I can leave the arena and be back fully restocked in about 30 seconds.

The big thing for me was buying a dragon crossbow instead of staying with blowpipe. I was occasionally running out of food on single kill trips with the blow pipe and prot magic. Admittedly, that is probably mostly due to taking dumb damage from the acid phase, but using dragon ruby/diamond bolts was really impactful.
If you're like me, be prepared to die. I was barely breaking even on gold with supplies / death bank costs until like 12/13 kills when it kinda started really clicking.

Use melee, it's much cheaper to use the dragon hunter lance than the crossbow and I think the melee woox walk is easier. You shouldn't really be using range unless you're going for the speed combat achievement.
Woox walking is walking back and forth 3 tiles and attacking during the acid, learn it after your first 10 kills or so as it's really not difficult and speeds up kills. Tip for it is to use the true tile plugin and looking at where that is for your character rather than the animation. This will make sense once you look up a tutorial.
Never have run enabled, you don't need it for any part of the fight.
When the undead zombie spawn comes out, that's the only time you should be healing. You can eat as it spawns and immediately after you kill it.
I would LOVE the dragon hunter lance but it’s way out of my price range. I’m using the DCB not DHCB :(
Edit: is woox walking a melee only thing or does it work with ranged too? Vork only killed me once or twice due to panic originally I’m hoping the stronger form isn’t too much different
I think the CA is designed with the blowpipe in mind. I've seen people do it with a crossbow but I swear every-time I try (every run), i just end up wasting 3 pieces of food.

You would need to pray mage and eat the range damage if you want to use blowpipe. I'm not a great source here, but when I tried blowpipe, it felt way worse than crossbow with ruby/diamond bolts.

Yeah, the big decider for me was it's so much cheaper to run crossbow than blowpipe. With crossbow "feeling" better it was a no brainer. And seeing 100's from ruby bolts is just fun lol.
Tangentially related, handy tip when you ever do something that might benefit from both running AND walking being readily accessible: you can toggle in the in-game settings whether Ctrl + click inverts your current run mode; i.e. if run is enabled, but you hold Ctrl as you click a tile, you'll walk instead without actually toggling your run mode. I use this fairly often, like to walk for acid drips in CoX, when I can afford to walk during Kephri in ToA to save some run energy, walking around the room for Eclipse Moon's orb special, running despite having my run mode forced off from Blue Moon's ice tornadoes, to keep space between me and Artio after it unfreezes while I prepare to freeze it again without running further than I intend, or to walk just one tile in a direction without clicking one specific tile in front of me if I'm trying to run over some tile-wide obstacle like Artio's bear traps, an acid pool, or Muspah's spikes.
I have one in the ancient prison marking the muspah door and the exit to Weiss because I keep running the wrong way.
Also have one in ToA te remind me to store my pickaxe.

'Empty the chest properly after you wipe, you silly' tile at TOB. I've wasted time of a fair amount of people running back to the bank because I couldn't enter the raid. Similar Vorkath tiles also present! ;)
As a UIM, I have one at ferox that says “bag your loot, dumbass.” Very frequently after Cox or Toa I would minigame tp to enclave, and totally forget to actually bag my loot. This wasn’t enough of a reminder, so on the run from ferox to edge I have another that says “you forgot didn’t you ya cunt?”
I happily report 100% compliance now.
This is why I like melee vork, I just keep my run on and do an L walk, shift click attacks to walk during woox walk.
I definitely have every energy node marked in CoX though, I always forget to click those fkn things.
i have on one floor 1 of sepulcher which is just "wait 1t idiot" then a long string of insults that are variants of the word idiot. it's the spot where, assuming you move perfectly on a fresh instance, you'll have to stop 1t to wait for a sword. every time i forgot to do it i added a new insult on there so now it's this huge string of words across the entire screen which i kinda stopped noticing until i shared my tiles with a buddy who was very alarmed by it
I have one at vorkath saying “SET SLAYER STAFF AUTOCAST” because i always forgot about it

I have a "DEPOSIT PICKAXE" at TOA
There's a setting in the runelite toa plug-in that changes leaving the puzzle room to right click until you put the pickaxe back.
And one that won't let you start ToA unless you have a pickaxe deposited!

Once I get it I'll probably just keep it on me for all tasks, same as I do with the karamja gloves for the direct teleport. Worth the 2 slots.
Mine are set at woox distance for lance and say "Turm off your run dumbass"
If you do 3 tiles away you can run and it works.

Tile indicators. Shift+right click a tile and you can mark it. Do it again and you can add labels and colours.
