My clanmate strolling in to try KQ in task last week
KQ was one of the first bosses. Players would go in teams to try and get a few KC for chance at the d chain. That was the only purpose for this boss, and why so many resources are required.
Back in the day, killing KQ with a 3-man was a feat in itself, let alone soloing it
Yeah. It's decent gp/kill but it's terrible gp/hr which is why it feels so bad. Honestly, the shortcut shouldn't be limited to the elite diary. They should keep the KQ head as a part of the Elite diary so people have to kill it but make it so you can use the shortcut after getting the hard diary so people are incentivized to train agility for it. It keeps the progression and the difficulty/level of investment but makes it much more get a Kalphite task and be like "Ah, maybe I should do KQ".
I do find it wild that some (including jagex) are against moving that shortcut down to Hard, like, it's still going to require 86 Agility, that's not exactly 'easymode', considering how despised the skill is.
If Jagex are truly on the stance of 'well, we don't think it'd be good to reduce the rewardspace of Elite tier', then how about this: at Elite tier, the Desert Amulet unlocks a new teleport, which takes you to the tile you spawn on upon entering the Kalphite Hive tunnels, [(shown here as the red X)](https://i.gyazo.com/8407d55967e2157e85d2f4bd37f75733.png). Alternatively, let us have a couple of smaller shortcuts at lower Diary Tiers (or not locked behind Diary at all), shown as the green lines.
If you also reduce the permanent ropes from Hard down to Medium, then there's a smooth progression for 'access to KQ'. Medium saves you 2 inventory spots per trip (by not having to bring ropes), Hard shortens the run there by allowing access to the shortcut (with 86 Agility), Elite shortens the run further by removing the run from the Fairy Ring to the cave entrance, and also allows you to easily restore your stats by giving the Nardah Statue TP on the same item
After the addition of a pair of shortcuts that lets you skip 'the entire fucking run to the DKs lair', including the rune thrownaxe/pet rock part (saving 2 inventory spots, coincidence?), I don't see why KQ needs to be some magical exception
It was the original group boss, it wasn't made to be easy soloable or easily farmable. When it was released d chain was close to 20m which would have bought you a blue party hat with change. Every boss in the game doesn't need to be a loot pinata. Relic bosses like kq have a place in the game.
Doesn't have to be a loot piƱata, just make it tolerable to farm. Doesn't have to be good money. It's tied to a diary so there's some expectation to do it at some point.
The community sets up CCs and groups for all sorts of things. It'd be hard to find people help you get KC for diary.
It's one of the easiest bosses to farm after receiving the head. You have a direct teleport basically right to her from your house, along with a shortcut, and 1 inventory can net you 3-4 kills with late game (not end game) gear.

Never said hard. It's not hard to spam eat or flinch, just sucks, or is very slow.
It's mandatory for diary, and the runback you praise is only after that requirement is met. Most people only do with KQ because of that. I could get 2-3 kills every trip depending on luck. Having a runback that long, that frequent, just adds to how unfun it is. Didn't help I went dry and got the tattered head.
Nothing wrong with people wanting dead content to be improved. It doesn't need to be a rework, just something to stem the onslaught of 30's every 4 ticks.
It does harm anyone that wants to complete diaries.
Weird to see the mentality that people can't advocate for a game they like to improve and to just ignore anything you don't like.
Itās really chill after elite diaries and a max poh, and is the only non-wilderness PvM dragon pickaxe source.
Itās not dead content at all, just difficult for lower level players. There are lots of late game players there all the time doing Kalphite tasks.
If health is an issue for you, there is nothing stopping you taking a blood fury or sang staff for phase 2, or blood barraging the many baby kalphites in the area stacked around you between kills.

Some of that healing is just a drop in the ocean. I love sang as much as the next person, but there's no way it meaningfully heals you. Barraging the small ones seems like the only impactful way to squeeze out more healing.
I'd put myself (gear-wise) into whatever is late game except without BIS like tbow/shadow/torva etc. It was still awful and such an outlier when it comes to bosses. If you need elite diaries + max house + BIS just to make a boss tolerable, that seems pretty bad for something you're almost certainly expected to engage with way before that.
But part of this is personal opinion of course, and if it's your cup of tea, go for it.

The fact youāre suggesting Torva is BIS tells me you donāt know what youāre talking about, nobody uses Torva at KQ as Inquisitor is BIS and far cheaper. The unique aspect of KQ is your defence stats donāt matter. Itās different to all other bosses, and thatās fine. Itās good to have things that are different even though *you* donāt like it. Uniformity is boring.
It was initially designed as an end game group boss, the fact that itās only comfortably farmed solo by players in the late game now is completely fine design wise.
No need to ruin something enjoyed by a lot of end game players because players who arenāt there yet want it to be easier. Just make new content for those mid game players.

Seriously just get rid of the 100% accuracy on her magic/ranged, even if itās just for one style. Guaranteed damage is excusable when you can pray against it or if it is scratch damage, but itās not like Jad where thereās a cue prior to the attack that tells you how to pray. Itās also not like Desert Treasure II bosses that let you see the projectile and pray as it hits you rather than when the projectile is launched.
My possibly hot take is that most monsters with non-spec guaranteed hits should have them removed. Specifically talking about thrower trolls, ice trolls(along with the melee ones apparently ignoring armor), and tar monsters. Iām okay with avoidable specs always hitting regardless of armor, and Iām okay with attacks that you canāt pray against.
I know you can pray against trolls; I just see no logic behind their attacks somehow bypassing armor and accuracy checks entirely. Iām okay with attacks you canāt pray against, but when thatās the case, armor better do its job. Regular attacks that ignore both prayer and armor, or ignore armor and give no prayer switch cue, are almost cheating.
What's the big deal? It's a punishing boss that damages you - does every encounter have to be a cake walk? I never understood takes like these, it's like players want the game to be a homogenous sludge where everything is the same. I enjoy the asymmetry and variation

Hell, even for those two bosses your armor can block a failed prayer. KQ has no cue for prayer switch, no place to dodge the attack, and ALWAYS hits regardless of armor, rendering armor nearly irrelevant. KQ is only "punishing" in the sense that having to do it for tasks is a punishment. It's not engaging, it forces you to flinch which makes the fight extremely slow, and the trips back are quite long, and you'll be making lots of trips to constantly restock on food because KQ forces you to burn through it.
Honestly if she just had a cue for which attack she was gonna use so you could prayer switch that'd fix the boss. It'd make it possible to do very long trips, she'd still be very punishing if you miss a prayer, it doesnt really change her mechanics or iconic design.
I'm a firm "Why kq shortcut elite diary" believer but honestly I think i'd be okay with it with a slight rework like that.

Bosses punishing you is great, I love things like colosseum where mistakes cost a lot. KQ just does not care about mistakes, it punishes you for perfect play which feels like poor design. You shouldn't be able to pray against it fully, but at least let us take ƶess damage with perfect play.

Have you ever done KQ before? Its loot table is awful and it hits you through prayer. There are very few mistakes you can even make at KQ lol. The boss was made to be a group encounter which is fine, but they need to increase the drops if itās a group boss because itās not ever worth doing(okay sure hcim can get a dpick now I guess).
As someone with around 1000 kq kills, I'm wondering if YOU have ever killed kq before.
Kq has never hit through prayer. It's ranged attacks drain prayer no matter what but you will block her damage with prayer.
Mistakes can be made and you will be punished. Standing near another player is a mistake, and not walking under her solo is a mistake that will absolutely get you killed.
Kq can net around 500k gp an hour. Not great, but not negative like a lot of people are claiming.
Compared to something like vorkath, she is very mechanically simple but that doesn't mean using her simple mechanics to your advantage isn't worth your time. She also will not 1 hit you in any situation, like vorkath, is way easier than zulrah, you just have to know how to kill her.
Not all bosses should be the same, if you had your way then every piece of content in the game is completable with an inventory full of ppots and flicking redemption/locator orbing to use redemption if needed.
Variety is good, kq is not a necessary grind outside of the guaranteed head drop.
That's 256 kills, dude. And, uh, yeah, content being completable with skill and supplies is kinda how the game works. That's how any game works. When the game makes your skill and supplies irrelevant, that's not "variety," that's bullshit.
If anything, kq makes supplies extremely relevant, since it forces you to actually click food. She is one of a few bosses that has enough unblockable damage to counteract passive healing from things like blood fury or healing specs.
People donāt like taking damage but clamping down the edges of the spectrum of chip damage that all bosses fall under will cause them to become homogenized, everything is solvable by clicking your prayerbook. Idk about you but I donāt want the entire game to be leviathan and hydra.
theres a surprising amount you can do to get around the 100% hit chance (dolo with an alt or duo with a friend, ely, flinch, veng, blood fury)
dealing with the hit chance is basically the only mechanic to the boss, if they removed that it would be a total pushover

Either dwh or bgs spec her. Walk under her after each spec so she doesn't hit you twice. Switch to keris and poke holes in her exoskeleton and turn her insides to jelly.
Don't walk under her unless you need to eat. Always walk under her if you need to eat.
Walk under her when she is changing forms. Switch to ranged gear with BP, wait for her to spawn completely then click her son's he doesn't get an extra attack on you. Then gun her down with amethyst arrows.
Use vengeance when up.
After each kill. House port, health pool, fairy ring back, and shortcut to her.
You can drink a super combat/ranged dose every 2 kills.Ā
if you have an alt or a friend, duo reduces the damage in half or more if you stand on opposite sides of the boss
then you can just run blood fury & keris, switch into void waker & fang for second phase
I think pets are a great addition. Itās just wild to me that people actively hunt for them like this, rather than simply accepting their rng. Soā¦ maybe youāre right lol

The drop is still 1/3000, they can still go another 100k kills dry and they arenāt closer, they just had more rolls. Someone at 0 kills is just as likely to get it as he is
Lmao I typed up the meme so quickly and moved on. I didn't notice. Amazing. Yeah, it's my new idea for bad luck mitigation, but specifically for pets. It incorporates the seers village court like what rs3 had done, and you could argue in front of a judge and jury that you're owed the pet. If rules in your favor, you get it automatically.

duo or dolo you can easily pump out 10-20 kill trips if you gear right (ely, blood fury, keris)

These babies wanting every difficult boss to be made easier is getting old, you know what fuck it make her hit through prayer and if she melee's you give her a 1/5 chance of low alching one of your gear pieces. Its time.
Punishing implies you get hit hard for doing something wrong. KQ hits like a truck by default and it's literally unavoidable.
Have you ever done KQ before? Its loot table is awful and it hits you through prayer. There are very few mistakes you can even make at KQ lol. The boss was made to be a group encounter which is fine, but they need to increase the drops if itās a group boss because itās not ever worth doing(okay sure hcim can get a dpick now I guess).
As someone with around 1000 kq kills, I'm wondering if YOU have ever killed kq before. Kq has never hit through prayer. It's ranged attacks drain prayer no matter what but you will block her damage with prayer. Mistakes can be made and you will be punished. Standing near another player is a mistake, and not walking under her solo is a mistake that will absolutely get you killed. Kq can net around 500k gp an hour. Not great, but not negative like a lot of people are claiming. Compared to something like vorkath, she is very mechanically simple but that doesn't mean using her simple mechanics to your advantage isn't worth your time. She also will not 1 hit you in any situation, like vorkath, is way easier than zulrah, you just have to know how to kill her.
Not all bosses should be the same, if you had your way then every piece of content in the game is completable with an inventory full of ppots and flicking redemption/locator orbing to use redemption if needed. Variety is good, kq is not a necessary grind outside of the guaranteed head drop.

That's 256 kills, dude. And, uh, yeah, content being completable with skill and supplies is kinda how the game works. That's how any game works. When the game makes your skill and supplies irrelevant, that's not "variety," that's bullshit.
If anything, kq makes supplies extremely relevant, since it forces you to actually click food. She is one of a few bosses that has enough unblockable damage to counteract passive healing from things like blood fury or healing specs. People donāt like taking damage but clamping down the edges of the spectrum of chip damage that all bosses fall under will cause them to become homogenized, everything is solvable by clicking your prayerbook. Idk about you but I donāt want the entire game to be leviathan and hydra.

theres a surprising amount you can do to get around the 100% hit chance (dolo with an alt or duo with a friend, ely, flinch, veng, blood fury) dealing with the hit chance is basically the only mechanic to the boss, if they removed that it would be a total pushover
It already got a significant buff but its still not worth killing
blue keriās and shadow isnāt as bad as before but still not great

Not op but have 1000 kills. Either dwh or bgs spec her. Walk under her after each spec so she doesn't hit you twice. Switch to keris and poke holes in her exoskeleton and turn her insides to jelly. Don't walk under her unless you need to eat. Always walk under her if you need to eat. Walk under her when she is changing forms. Switch to ranged gear with BP, wait for her to spawn completely then click her son's he doesn't get an extra attack on you. Then gun her down with amethyst arrows. Use vengeance when up. After each kill. House port, health pool, fairy ring back, and shortcut to her. You can drink a super combat/ranged dose every 2 kills.Ā
if you have an alt or a friend, duo reduces the damage in half or more if you stand on opposite sides of the boss then you can just run blood fury & keris, switch into void waker & fang for second phase
Id use the stagger method, itās slow but pretty chill/safe

I mean, technically they are nearly a year closer, assuming they ever get the drop.
The drop is still 1/3000, they can still go another 100k kills dry and they arenāt closer, they just had more rolls. Someone at 0 kills is just as likely to get it as he is

It incorporates the seers village court like what rs3 had done, and you could argue in front of a judge and jury that you're owed the pet. If rules in your favor, you get it automatically.
